Yamaha C3 Variator restrictor removal How to derestrict vox giggle fx50 scooter transmission
(Update 2-22-09 )Just got back from the first test ride. I would say I'm atleast going 45 now if not 46mph. In stock form it would top out at 43mph this was just ...
@jliverty Get a High performance air filter for about $10-$20 on ebay n get
Performance variator rollers 3-4 grams. The lower the grams the better they
cost about $10-$25 also on ebay together the filter n rollers will give u
more top end speed n faster acceleration u need to change ur rollers every
700-1000 miles anyway if not they will wear down n u will lose speed.I'm
190 lbs I live n the PA mountains I was getting 10-15 miles n hour up big
hills now iam getting 20-25 miles n hour up big hills
You were about to say what the rollers do when they roll out. and can you
let me know what the original mph was? I have a 2012 taotao that I thought
would be good to ride around town, wrong!. I was only getting up to a
suicidal 27 mph. I put a performance filter on and now I'm going up to 32
mph. 45 would be awesome. I also feel like the computer or whatever they
have ,cuts off the ignition at a certain speed. I heard you can change the
ignition module or something to keep it firing? Any help?
You DO NOT need to remove your kickstarter. It's quite easy all you gotta
do is remove the plastic cover and slide it out of the way of the
kickstarter. Removing the kickstarter was unecessary. I would know I've
been into my C3's transmission more than once. My C3 will go 45 with the
restrictor IN it. If you brake in your C3 with the restrictor out and put
the restrictor back in around 2,400 miles with a new belt and plug you will
go 45 with the restrictor back IN!
@ls1chevy2 I'm sorry i forgot to say i don't have a C3 i have a piaggio NRG
power LC, i get 58mph out of it already, i have ordered a polini race kit
which includes race variator, rollers with the weight of my choice, a race
belt etc, that's why i wanted to know about the roller weight, because i
need acceleration. i have a race exhaust anyway. is it compulsary to have a
tool to jam the variator whilst you remove it or is it possible just by
hand?
hi want to ask about this scooter , do you have any problem with this
scooter for daily use ? is it expensive for the monthly maintain cost for
this scooter ? the issue is this scooter only run for 45 MPH ???? is that
the standard mph for this scooter can run for the top speed ? or any trick
or service can do to make it go a lil bit faster without forcing/ overclock
the standard machine ? i just wondering what is the pro n cons
I first rode my C3 to 600 miles, then I derestricted it, I then rode it to
2,400 miles after that I put in a new belt a new spark plug and I put the
restrictor BACK IN after that I am now able to get 44 to maybe 45 mph with
the restrictor washer in, everything stock. I suppose taking the retrictor
back out with lighter Dr. Pulley slider weights and better clutch would be
a big improvement.
Sorry for the late reply, lol. I still have my NRG Power as a project
build. When I said 58 I meant mph. I have done an engine rebuild including
a top racing crankshaft and a doppler 70cc bored cylinder+head+piston. It
now does close to 80mph on a flat road but the carb still needs some
fine-tuning. Do you still have your C3? Mopeds are brilliant to work on
don't you think?
it already does 58 so a few less mph wouldn't bother me much, would there
be a noticeable difference in a 3.5 and a 1.5 or would you still recommend
3.5. I have not yet looked into the variator/clutch box but to take out the
variator do you actually need a tool like the one you use or is it still
not too hard to do without it? Thanks a lot for the reply. (Y)
Thanks for the video! Your example helped a ton and made it not so
intimidating for a newbie. I just removed the washer and replaced the
weights with some Dr. Pulleys from KS Power. $32 and two hours later I've
got WAY better acceleration and I'm burying the needle (prob around 45mph).
I loved my C3 to begin with and now love it even more. Peace and grease.
Your kickstarter in the 2 o'clock position? That's a good tip! But I still
don't see why you would need to remove it to get the plastic cover off.
Being in the 2 O'clock position it definetly wouldn't be in the way of that
cover. Anyways good tip and you made some definite improvements with
modifying the stock parts without buying anything!
Take the whole variator assembly out then take that washer and slide it to
the very back of the spindal. put your variator pulley's back on. What will
happen is that now the variator is realined with the clutch and will give
you an extra 2 miles an hour on top of the MPH you will gain from this
deristrict job.
thanks alot and why dont you try pulling your carb and and there is a flat
head screw in there turn it right but get you bike started and that will
turn the revs up so when you set of it pulls you back it just makes it
easyer to get up heels :D thanks alot hit me back
@ls1chevy2 fok the rear tire, its irrelevant, two kms/h is crap rather put
new exhaust or cilinder to it if ur looking for no budget shit, remove
foam, from airfilter, if ur scooter got a plastic box as filter its more
then enough, remove foam = twice the much torque
nope, just the washer removal, this wont void the warranty, I took mine in
for a fuel pump replacement w/o a prob, they dont care about thing like
this, whta they car about it if you mod the exhaust or intake, then blame
yamy for a burned up piston.
Lighter weights will improve acceleration but sacrifice top speed. Light
rollers will delay the pulley from squeezing the v-belt, hence more
acceleration. Heavy rollers squeeze the v-belt faster, sacrificing
acceleration.
it feels like the one nut you remove at 2:20 was tightened by the
incredible hulk, i got that kobalt tool thing and even held it while my
buddy tried loosening it and it didnt even budge. anyone else have this
problem?
nope you could probably improvise, maybe even a leather pants belt, or a
rope wraped around a hammer then wrap it around the variator then twist it
tight, and crank back for leverage, its not on there super tight.
How To Change A Clutch Cable On A 650 V-star
A video on how to change your clutch cable on a Yamaha 650 V-star Classic The levers are by show chrome //www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydLGUdn-eW4 ...
Hey Bernbo, great tutorial!! Thanks for that...
On my bike, I have another problem though, it would seem like the spring
where the cable attaches in the engine (the clutch shaft) is kind of loose,
so if I tighten the cable I have no clutch, because the spring doesn't push
the shaft all the way out.
is that easy to replace? it's pretty tight right underneath the cylinder
heads...
Hope my explanation is clear enough and that you can help me!
Cheers,
Rami
Oh cool, thanks for confirming the theory of the high biting point. It was fine with the smaller gloves for me, but I have to say that as the Autum rolls up in Ireland, it's gettting more difficult to get out of traffic lights with the bigger gloves. This is what I'm talking about btw, might be useful for someone else://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262066458754?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&fromMakeTrack=trueJust a spring really, but it actually looks like it does the trick. Thanks again for your responses and keep up the good work.
+Ramiro Tarrico Villafañe That's true the 650 V-stars are known for the high biting point. Mine is the same way I just got used to it and don't even think about now. Nice find on ebay bro.Cheers
+Bernbo Thanks for the reply bud! Actually, I've been Googling around a little bit and it would seem like the high biting point is kind of normal for the XVS650. I even found a little "kit" on ebay, that's pretty much a spring between the lower adjuster locking nut and the clutch swivel arm connector (yes, that's the word for it), which basically will push said arm back and allow more regulation on the clutch level.Do you have the same thing on yours where it bites at almost full release of the lever?
+Ramiro Tarrico Villafañe Hey Ramiro, I think I know what you mean. This is something that I have not worked on, you could give it a shot, it could turn into one of those little jobs a piece of cake... but then again maybe not. Wish I could more help.Cheers
really appreciate you putting this video up. I need to make my cables
shorter but wasn't sure how i would get them off or on. This clarified a
lot of things.
cheers.
+DISTRACTIONNN97GAMIN Right on bro congrats nice bike. Good thing you caught it early. Check out my channel there's a vid there on how i made the stash can. Takeiteass!
+Bernbo whaaaaaat?!? That's awesome man. But yea I just got a 2007 Vulcan 900, and I noticed the clutch cable on it was fraying so I'm getting it fixed.
Thanks for the comment, yes the tube gives a small tyre some shape before
fitting, with a big tyre like a 190 on a hayabusa its easier to get them to
seat, so I like to stretch the small ones with a tube for a half hour
before fitting - this allows time to remove the wheel. I will have a look
at doing a wheel removal video as front wheels are generally easiest, yes
you should balance wheels, and you can buy stick on weights. As I dont go
over the speed limit I generally dont bother with this
