Watch this video to see a step by step walkthrough on removing an RV refrigerator. I purchased this trailer used and will be doing so improvements/repairs to get ...
Great video... I've got a rotten floor underneath my fridge, and I was
confused as to what to disconnect outside. This video did the trick, and
didn't waste any time with needless talking. Straight to the point...
thanks!
Glad you found it useful! Good luck with your repair!
How to Remove RV / Motor Home Refrigerator Door.
How to Remove RV / Motor Home Refrigerator Door. Here's something I learned. I had to remove the refrigerator doors for something I'm doing to make the ...
I really thought about it. I decided to use some metal and give the wood on
the refrigerator a stainless steel look. I added some aluminum
flashing, sanded and glued to the wood. Looks pretty good! That video is up
now.. :)
This would be great if he (the Geek) would keep his camera on the subject
AND KEEP HIS ARMS OUT OF THE WAY OF THE CAMERA AND NOT SING HIS STUPID

Installing a Residential Refrigerator in an RV/ Travel Trailer
Watch this video to see the step by step process of installing an off-the-shelf residential refrigerator in an RV. The old refrigerator was leaking ammonia and ...
Very nice, but... Not sure I agree with insulating the refrigerator
compartment. The RV absorption refrigerator compartment is insulated
because it uses a flame/heat to boil the ammonia compound. A residential
refrigerator needs airflow around it for cooling the compressor and coils.
Most residential refrigerator installation manuals state they need 1" above
and below for air circulation. This assumes you block off the roof and
rear vents to outside air. If you leave the roof and rear vents open, then
you are cooling it with outside air and subject to extreme temperatures.
Great Video. Our Dometic 2652 has had two cooling units in 4 years (the
original and one placed in it 2 years ago. Now it needs another one. So we
are wanting to go with a residential for our travel trailer. My only
concern is having enough amps to run a/c and fridge and whatever else needs
electric at one time. Did you have any issues or modifications that is
needed to make sure all electric works? Also one more question. We
sometimes travel 8 to 10 hours a day, do we just put dry ice in the fridge
until we get to our campsites? Again, appreciate your video
+Debbie Ainolhayat Hello Debbie, The refrigerators that I used were very large. If a smaller refrigerator is used, about 4.3 cu ft or less, the 120 volts amp draw is usually less than 2 amps, sometimes 1 amp. For a travel , trailer, I would use a similar set up as previously described. Mount an inverter on the vehicle battery and run a 14 gauge extension cord to the rear bumper of the vehicle. Run a 14 gauge extension cord from the refrigerator to the tongue of the trailer. When the trailer is hooked up to the vehicle, plug the 2 cords together. Raise the hood of the vehicle and switch on the inverter. When the trailer is disconnected from the vehicle, turn off the inverter, under the hood, and disconnect the 2 extension cords. Then disconnect the refrigerator from the inside portion of the extension cord and plug the refrigerator into a 120 volts wall plug and therefore, use shore power. The small amp draw of the refrigerator will not be enough to cause a problem with your 30 amps input. If you use a small amp draw refrigerator, a 400 watts inverter, on the vehicle battery, will provide about 3.5 amps of 120 AC volts, which will power the refrigerator while traveling. If you do not wish to have to remember to turn off/on the inverter each time, a simple disconnect can be a solenoid switch placed in the 12 volts line between the battery and the inverter. Activation for the solenoid can be provided by running a 12 volts line from the fuse box to the solenoid. The wire should be attached to spot that is only powered when the ignition switch is on. A continuous duty solenoid switch must be used. Surpluscenter.com has a 80 amps switch for about $10.00. Pat Courtney
Hi Pat,We have a travel trailer. I guess my question would be should I get one more 12V battery and an inverter along with a transfer switch assigned only to the residential fridge?I am hearing good things about residential fridges. Thanks for your help.
+Debbie Ainolhayat I have had 120 volts refrigerators in 5 motor homes. When traveling I plug the refrigerator into an extension cord that is plugged into an inverter which is attached to the vehicle battery (I have a transfer switch). The refrigerator stays cold and will make ice while traveling. The size of the inverter depends on the refrigerator Amps draw. Most such refrigerators (8 amps or less) will run on a 750 - 1000 watts inverter. The important part is to have a disconnect switch in one of the two the 12 volts line going TO the inverter (or remember to turn off the inverter) , otherwise it will drain the vehicle battery when the vehicle is not running.
+Debbie Ainolhayat Our has been working just fine and they actually do not pull that much power so that should not be a concern. As far as long trips go it would be best to grab a battery and an inverter and just let it run while you are on the road. Dry ice would be fine also, anything over about 4 hours and things will start to thaw a bit in the freezer. Fridge stays pretty cool for 4-5 hours. Hope that helps and good luck!
OK, good video - informative and well shot ..... but, here's something you
MIGHT want to consider if you have the same issue I have. My shower fixture
and faucet is backed up to the refrigerator wall and there is no way to
access it without moving the refrigerator. You might want to see if it's
worth replacing any plumbing on the other side of the refrigerator wall.
Plumbing fixtures are cheap and easily replaceable....refrigerators are not
.... sigh, here I go - gotta pull the reefer just to get a $22.00 shower
faucet installed. How dumb is that construction design ...?
+Expedition West Films (expwestfilms) Oh, that stinks but the good thing is now that I have this frig in here it is super easy to pull it out, unscrew a couple screws, unplug it, and then take it out. Good luck with yours, not fun getting the stock frig out!
Perfect! We had the exact same Dometic model, and have now removed it from
the RV. Unfortunately can't find the model Frigidaire you have at a
Canadian Best Buy. Thank you for the video.
+Shauna Falk Glad could help with the first part at least! Here is the same model on Amazon but not sure about shipping where you are. - //amzn.to/1Nb4dbf
+ycmdill I tried and actually had an issue with the reverse hinge bracket on the one I got so I just put it back. I could have sent it back and got a new one but it wasn't worth it, great point though!
Good job but. Your refrigerator looks like the type that draws air in the
back over the evaporator under the bottom and out into the RV. Proper
installation would be for the refrigerator to be sealed from the outside
and recirculate inside air. Causes extra load on the AC.
Installing My Off Grid 3 Way RV Fridge And Some Strange Visitors
Today I spent most of the day removing my AC fridge, which I cannot use right now and installing the old 3 way RV fridge in its place. This was more work than ...
Oh No, that goo is from the feet of an Alien Gray who must be stalking you!
You should NEVER EVER touch is stuff since it will permeate your skin and
travel to your brain and affect your life style in weird ways. Some
infected people move into a camper out in the middle of nowhere and take up
with cats. Uhhhhhhhhhh did you touch that stuff in the past???????? Maybe
not, infected people also cook with wood and wash their cloths in streams.
Ut Oh.. Sounds like you are INFECTED BRO!!!!!! LOL
i sealed the roof today, moved the rugs around and found where the water
went on the rug, yuk i took it out and then setup tv vcr/dvd & small
desktop plugged it in to solar power inverter and it ran the fridge turned
on and was getting cool i think it putting out more then 800 why i did not
unplug my home side & tv and internet was on with one vcr on too! all it
did was have the fan run no buzzing yet! plug the bigger panels were on
grid tie feed back i think it might work better now!!!
Haha cats! She's adorable & I love the way you tend to her. Great on the
fridge! I'm so happy for you! I used one of those Coleman coolers for about
a year or so. My old fridge leaked ammonia. ACK! Could not use it, it
became a fire hazard. After checking what it would take to fix it, I ended
up buying a new one instead. It's soooo much better than a cooler!!! Keep
the vids coming - I think they are important to others. The tires, a coyote
maybe? Do bears mark like that? I don't know...
the grid tie i have puts solar panels or 12 volt battery power back to the
grid! it works only one way the grid reg the power feed to it! the grid tie
connected to full sun 150 watt panel set feeds back to grid 130 plus watts
back the watts feed = whats in used well doing it, i shut down stuff i seen
as low as 20 watts! i get more from charging battery's and running stuff
off them though inverter & wiring and unplugging stuff not in use!
When a person goes into the wilds to live or stay they get that weird
realization that there no longer on the top of the food chain anymore its a
scary thing to deal with. I know when I camp in the northern woods of
Wisconsin, when I hear the wolfs howling or bear tracks not more than 20
yards from your camp. I have a real hard time sleeping even in the jeep I
have a liberty just ok to sleep even a bit tight
those "radiators" look more like condersors. opps. now I'm giving away
where I work. I had TONS of tiny tiny worms in all the puddles on my
driveway one day, and I've never seen them since. shouldn't got the vac out
and sucked all the bugs up. I have my solar fridge battery full at 10:30 am
even when its not so cold. Welcome to spring/summer, the "no power worries"
season/s.
You get allot of great stuff donated to your cause, those batteries are
very expensive and those water pumps and other great articles. Get your
camper straighten out. Show the people who donated that stuff you are going
to use it. Looking forward to some progress. Vinny
Hey, do you need some electrical wire nuts??? Also do you have a Digital
Voltmeter with DC, AC and Ohms settings? I own DSM LABS and may be able to
help you with Electronics/ Engineering issues or parts/advice.. Let me know
if so glenn at dsmlabs dom
i just saw that stuff today and did not look to close to it. i thought it
was sand from the water running through the yard .but yours looks
alive.WTF.now i feel itchy just thinking about it.i'm taking the flea
powder out there right now.
YES and mice =death if you breathe in the feces when it's air borne and
dry. Huntavirus scraes me and every home with mice is a death trap. YET I
like mice and think they are cute.....maybe a viper snake would make a
better pet....LOL
14.1-15 volts is an equalization charge (automatic on many charge
controllers). It's purpose is to keep the plates in your battery clean and
extend their life. My charge controller kicks off an EQ charge once a
month.
