How to Remove and Replace a Battery on a Chrysler Pt Cruiser
Replacing a battery on a Chrysler PT Cruiser is a little more involved than an average 4 cylinder vehicle but it is still easy, even for a beginner. If your battery is ...
This video was great. I couldn't figure out how to remove the lower portion
of the air filter housing. It seemed like it was attached with screws, but
I couldn't find them. Your info on just pulling up to remove it saved me
much aggravation. New battery is in and the old 2005 PT starts right up.
Thank you for taking the time to put this up.
Im having the same problem one year ago. PT 2004 does nut turn. Last year
I changed the battery. It started to turn lazy and then last Thursday
nothing at all. I charged the battery and toke the car to Wal-Mart for
checking, said the battery is good and we replaced a terminal. Well the
car will not turn. Help?
Always know in life to never put anyone below yourself because everyone
needs someone. I am a 45 year master mechanic and engineer and I learned
from the guy in the video where the damn battery is in one of the pt
cruisers.
+deftoner You actually CAN push most automatics to start them!!! What it is with automatics if the torque convertor drains the top half of fluid back into the tranny when you park one. But if you push a car with automatic and then put back in neutral then enage id drive again you can push start one
+Earl Guyton You never stop learning, and that is good :) Today my PT Cruiser battery dies, and today I learned that you cant push an automatic car to start it LOL
How To: Change a PT Cruiser car battery
This is a how-to video on changing the battery in your 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. I'm sure the process is similar in other year models; but this is the general idea ...
To the ppl referring to this video to assist in doing it yourself, use the
PROPER WRENCH or SOCKET for the battery clamp nuts and NOT PLIERS!!! You
will have rounded nuts in no time doing it the way this guy did, also, useful
tip # 2...add another extension bar to ratchet to loosen battery hold down
bolt, will make the job a lil quicker with a full ratchet rotation instead
of half turns, and you shouldn't have to remove that hold down bolt
entirely, just til the battery is able to become "unlocked' from its grasp
Probably a bit late but if anyone still cares, I know the 03 cruiser has an
additional air hose on the left side of the filter box. Easy enough to
remove and put back. Other than that, make sure you have the right battery.
Just made an extra trip to get another one because I guess one of the pt
models has the pos and neg terminals on the opposite sides. Pay attention
so you don't blow yourself up or something. Fuck this car.
This video was great - thanks for making it! My 2005 Dream Cruiser was dead
on Saturday night, so I searched to see if there were any videos. Yours
told me exactly how to do it. My Cruiser has a thick steel upside-down
U-shaped bar that holds the battery down to its holder rather than a screw
plate at the base of the battery. It's buzzing right along now with a new
battery. Keep up the good work!
One thing I learned in Auto Shop (they still have that in High School?) is
remove the Negative Terminal First. If you work on the Positive Terminal
and your wrench should contact ANY METAL of the frame or engine you will
get a massive arc!! Remove Negative first and you prevent that from being a
problem by removing the return path through the frame.
Wow - yes make sure to remove negative first - and clean the terminals
Before you put in a new battery. Also oil the hold down bolt so it's not
rusted next time. Oh yes - Never use lineman's pliers on the bolts and
nuts. Take the money you saved and buy a 10mm wrench. 1/2 inch if you have
replaced the terminals with standard ones.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. We have a 2008 PT Cruiser and my husband
was trying to change the battery and getting madder by the minute. I found
this on your post on youtube.com and it helped so much. He was able to get
the battery out and is on his way to purchase another battery. Again thank
you for this posting.
Um when you Change the Battery you were supposed to clean the terminal ends
too. They sell a cheap kit to clean them up . That much corrosion on the
terminals can ruin your new battery. Ruin by means of not being able to
properly charge it right due to poor contact.
Hello sir,
What is the size of the battery replacement?
Or what is model of the battery you used in this video?
My girlfriend's PT Cruiser, which is similar to yours (not sure if it is
2001), is currently stuck due to battery need to be replaced.
Thank you
Very helpful - minor differences with a 2006 but nothing major at all. I
have broken things off cars before by pulling them when I shouldn't have
done so, so to have it confirmed that this was how to remove the air filter
box was great. Thanks!
If you rarely drive, run the car for awhile every couple weeks or get a
battery tender. batteries low on charge sulfate and go bad, usually
unrepairable, sometimes desulfating can be done with high voltage charging.
Lol sandals
Thanks, I was able to change the OEM battery in a 2005 PT Cruiser in the
CarQuest parking lot (with their tools) in 10 minutes. It took longer to
pay and wash my hands then to change the battery. Your video was very
helpful.
Nice how to video, but you should always disconnect the negative terminal
first when removing the battery and when installing the battery connect the
negative terminal last to prevent shorting out or blowing up the battery.
Good video, only comment is that you should have wire brushed out the cable
terminals for a good battery post contact. There are some 'lubricants' that
can be used to prevent future corrosion from breaking the contact.
thanks a lot man>>>> I have PT Cruiser 2008 and I am changing the battery
in just 2mins without removing the air filter >> just tilt the the battery
poll it out >> believe me i tried this it was pretty easy!!! ^^
You installed the BLACK cable first which is WRONG and then the RED cable
Last, Your did to his BACKWARDS. It is always RED cable FIRST and then
BLACK cable LAST as not to SPIKE your COMPUTER or other Parts.
thanks i just didn't like how you rushed but it was informative. lol i was
glad to know that i won't break anything when i pulled out the air filter.
That was the only thing stopping me, from removing Battery.
Thank you so much for this video. Like most people I had no idea where the
battery
was. Great camera work as well. Good wide shots and close ups under the
hood so to have a good visual of the area. Thanks
You don't have to remove the lower air cleaner box to get at the battery!
Second, remove battery tray to make sure your battery support bracket isn't
corroding due to chemical reaction of battery gases.
Bummer... I run a car batterydelivery service in AZ and just changed one of
these out for a customer and lost my 10mm socket somewhere under the
battery tray! Damn Chryslers!!! Never done me no good!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. My son was extremely frustrated when he
couldn't figure out how to get the darn battery out of my 2001 PT Cruiser.
I came to the rescue by finding your video.
Ditto with pkwkitty I was beginning to really get uptight when my bride of
28 years decided to go online for help. She found this video, so I had to
eat a large portion of crow. Many thanks.
This is super helpful. I have a 2001 PT Cruiser and YES you should remove
the entire air filter box unless you have tiny elf-like hands. You need the
room to remove and install the battery.
very informative but you can see 8:52 that he did not put the air filter
cover on properly. it has teeth on back that were not properly hinged.this
will allow debri into combustion chamber.
PT Cruiser: How to change the car battery
Easy, step by step demonstration of how to replace and install a battery in a PT Cruiser. ===== ***Reminder*** My animations have a new home. Please go to ...
Thanks for showing this, I followed what you said and replaced my PT
Cruiser battery without a problem. The great thing is that I had an
emergency vehicle kit with a socket set in it.
Do they have easy-to-access terminals for the PT Cruiser when it needs a
jumpstart? I'd hate to give someone a jump and find that I have to remove
something else to access the battery.
I've used baking soda mixed with water to neutralize acidic gunk on battery
terminals and it's worked pretty well if specially made neutralizer is not
readily available.
Yes, in the video you can see the sticker on the strut tower with an arrow along with a + that points to a jump/charge point that's capped with a red cap. I've seen this on various Chrysler branded autos, for example the 300 has the battery in the trunk under a panel beside the spare tire. On some of these vehicles this point is the tie in for not only the battery to the rest of the car but the alternator as well and I've seen an issue where over time the ring terminal on the bolt begins to rust/corrode, this causes the point to heat up from resistance melting the red cap. In extreme cases the corrosion can get the point where it isolates the engine from the alternator/battery causing the car to die suddenly with no warning.
Brian my brother, this is my new favourite channel on Youtube, I don't even
own a PT Cruiser but I'm watching this for the knowledge you're about to
feed my brain. Thank you for the video & take care.
Hey Brian
Can you make a video explaining why some times brakes sound and feel like
they are grinding even when the pads still have alot of life left. I myself
know why this happens but others do not. I believe its caused by hard spots
on the pad or when a vehicle it left parked for a period of time and the
rotors have surface rust. Its normal, but others can take a answer of it
being normal and want them changed.
Hope you can use this idea for your channel. Keep up the good work. People
need Tech like you and I that take pride in their work and not con people
to get the rent paid by doing useless repairs or over charging for a simple
fix.
THANKS
+briansmobile1 Reason why I mentioned it is because I get a lot of people coming in saying they need brakes which they don't and they can not understand that their driving habit is causing this. please let me know when you post the video. Thanks for the good work on these videos.
Covers for this, covers for that. Why don't they just cover the entire
engine bay with one big plastic cover? OH! but give it like 50 screws with
one of a kind heads on them so you can't even check your oil without having
to bye the special tool to remove the cover. Then the dealer can say What,
you need the special engine bay tool? Yes we have it. That will be $300.
This is why I fix up old cars.
I hear you brother! Audi is pretty bad for that with their 14mm inverse torx screws on the under engine plate. Lexus actually discussed the concept of a dealership code being required to open the hood at all. The idea was quickly shot down.
i work on my family's pt cruiser , it is horrendously cramped in there !
its great seeing you work on it and to pick up tips ! thanks for all your
clips!
I think they are unique and capture a respectable segment of the market. They don't look exactly like every other car trying to copy the prior designs. They're iconic and create work for mechanics. They best suit a driver who needs a wagon, but wants something more uniquely styled. They don't fit my needs personally, but I've met many people who wouldn't drive anything else.
Working as the fleet mechanic for the girls... Honda Girl's old PT cruiser gets a battery replacement... Way too cold to be outside....
Know exactly what you mean about the battery position, on the golf they
have put the battery right behind the passenger headlight, so you have to
remove the battery to change the bulb, but then have to enter the security
code in radio cause of the loss of power.
That one is on of the easier ones to replace on Chrysler's some of them you
have to take out the wheel well to get at them. Thanks for the video, Take
care.
+MIKE MAYERAN For me there is way too much plastic under the hood... And it was way too cold.. I think I may be a fair weather tinkerer ... Thanks for watching.
+MrWillis5719 Those hidden parts are a pain.. The battery for Honda Girl's Chrysler 300 is under the carpet in the trunk... Guess I'm still tryin to get over that move from the firewall to beside the radiator... lol... Thanks for watching...
Too cold for car problems, that's for sure. I'm glad you showed those
access terminals, Just because I was wondering after you mentioned it.
Thanks for sharing, Cheers
+Tufdog's Place Strange thing but, even though the terminals are marked I've had several people ask where is the battery and how do you get to the battery to boost... Thanks for watching...
my best buddy has a gray one....he just loves it....6'5 and we go ice
fishin alot with it...makes me laugh everytime i see him in it. gotta say
its a nice little runner if maintenance is kept up. it holds 2 ice shanties
back there
+RobsPackanShine Honda Girl loves her PT. It's beginning to look rough but still runs good after 225000 miles... It reminds me of a small panel truck... Thanks for watching...
I Wonder why they couldnt place the battery near the engine, it always gets
better efficiency when warmed up, especialy during winter. Inside the cabin
is a typical new "style" mercedes and bmw solution, which is not too
healthy due to proximity of the battery ground cable to the occupants of
the vehicle (alternator ripple exposure ), such battery stays cold, same
thing in the trunk.
