This week we continue chasing electric cars found at this years LA Auto Show. We found cars by Porche, Volkswagen, Toyota, Smart, BMW, Cadillac and Chevy.
+jehugarcia That's something we can agree on then. :) I love Imports, but not because of the sound. The sounds I was going for where indeed from cars like the 918, or even 911. That 911 howl is something very special to me. But I've looked around on YT and I have to say I'm convinced about EV's. It can be very interesting.
+GodlikeNL . Im not a big fan of engine roar, American motor low frequency is fun while on board but annoying as a bystander, Japanese engines just sound horrible to my ears but that Spyder sound……. that is one impressive mean, angry growl!!!! //youtu.be/qlBUB9RqY_I?t=8m18s
+jehugarcia Honestly I was hoping for a more friendly approach because I'm not hating people who like EV's. I'm sort of looking for reasons to like EV's, because Formula E sounds like a lot of fun. I just want people to stop rattling on about why their car is electric, and go nuts like in the 1960's. Just try to make something special and be creative. If an electric car manufacturer could do something like Jaguar did with the E-type, or Lambo with the Miura, then I would be sold. Just building it fast, doesn't make it special. You need to be able to love a car, (not having a relationship with it like some idiots but), you need te be able to be proud of it, that's what I love about cars. I respect the GT-R, 458, and Porsche GT3 because they demand respect with their looks, sounds and handling. These cars have their own character. And I think that's wrong with today's EV's. They need charme. BTW, I have to admit I like the 918 Spyder, and especially the electric bit. To drive around with a V8, while it doesn't even make a sound, does tempt to be very interesting. So yeah, I have to agree with you about giving EV's a chance and I'm looking forward to your story.
I enjoy my electric car I built myself everyday 1957 VW EV Microbus, first drvieThats why I know every one of your views expressed here in your comments is based on misconceptions, you should give EVs a chance, or at the very least the reasons you don't like them should be based on facts, otherwise you run the risk of just sounding foolish.BTW: Not all of us are tree hugging green heads, some of us also like performance This Electric E36 Makes 850 lb/ft of Torque at the Wheels! - /TUNED I've felt the 850 ft lb of torque of this vehicle, Im interviewing EVwest folks this week, so stay tuned the story I show you might just win you over.
+jehugarcia I know that already, you enjoy your electric car in a few years. all you greenheads are going to notice is you have a chance of poisoning yourself in a crash, or destoying the earth because your electricjuice has spilled over the countryside. It isn't to save the world, or save money, it's been produced to make more money. Because it's a kind of fashion statement, I predict EV's will be over in a few years and something else will take over. Don't be so sure.
Oh…….your'e not just old, your'e also crazy. Its ok old timer, enjoy getting your fingers dirty on combustion engines, unfortunatly for you and lucky for the rest of us, the future is coming and no one, not even old petrol heads can stop it.
+jehugarcia That's what I mean, EV's aren't even a big step forward. It almost is a step backwards. Only green people like these things, because it's good for the envoirment (while it isn't), and it's cheap to run. I've been a car mechanic, so I know a lot of car people who like to get their fingers dirty from changing an engine block or something like that. This laptop stuff isn't going to be more relaible, and if it breaks, you're stuck with a box on wheels that you may not even push, because it can cause damage to the engine. I know there will be another way to replace petrol. We hate eveything with batteries, like mobile phones, or laptops, or even a remote control, because they go flat and in a few years it won't even charge 50%. Everything these days is being done to save the world, while the world is doing just fine. That's what irritates me. EVERYONE is busy cleaning the world up, while some scientists found out the car isn't even on the list of biggest problems. That's why I don't like eveyone to "move on", with their stupid "new"(old) ideas.
+jehugarcia if you do a next conversion, maybe choose a slightly more modern donor car than the bus :) so you don't feel you are missing out when driving new EVs
