whatever motion it is, it becomes instict if practiced enough this is the
first thing I learned at Aikido, because if when u are thrown you dont roll
properly you can hurt yourself. Now its second nature. A little while ago I
was walking along and fell over a root. I rolled and stood straight back up
withought thinking. basically rolling when you oe your ballance, becomes
like walking when you want to go foward, just a natural motion.
@mullahnasruddinQQ, as far as I can see, the Hapkido roll is not so
different from this one, which is almost identical to Aikido forward roll.
Note that Aikido and Hapkido are very similar in many aspects. The Hapkido
guys jump higher, so the momentum automatically brings them up straight. In
this vid, they didn't stand up in the end only because they didn't want to.
The moves are essentially the same.
Yes, you are right my dear, this roll is identical to the aikido roll.
Aikido originates in the ancient japanese martial arts, developed by the
samurai who used to wear reativily heavy armor in battle. Probably in some
aikido-styles which are alive and changing they have modified the way of
rolling. Personally I prefer to roll over the outstretched leg for the
reasons told above.
This is a very ancient way to roll, suitable for someone wearing an amour
of some kind, probably taken from some japanese martial art. I suggest to
learn a roll which enables you to end up in a standig position. Anyway that
guy presenting in this vid has done a good bit of practice which you should
do too before trying to roll out of any trouble.
u r a million times mor likely to get injured somehow from a fall or in
daily routines than u are getting violently mugged on ur everyday street.
if u learn balance & how to move properly, then u dont need to really worry
about anything else- balance has its own applications in & of itself
@engineering07 Yes, unhandycapped people can stand up from that position
including me. In my opinion it is swifter, more gentle to your knees and
easier to roll over your outstretched leg as shown in the vids Hapkido

Muscle memory is the thing that my karate instructor stresses the most.
like pralrvkeorur said, if you practice something enough it becomes second
nature. If you train yourself to fall a certain way you will fall that way
because your muscles will not wait for your brain to react.
if there is a wall than you may catch yourself upon it. if you are struck
in the back of the head you probably shouldn't have pissed the guy off.
there are infinite probabilities in any confrontation to sit here and
speculate them is pointless get out and practice!
am telling ya man i am soo far behind in the computer world, well you taught
me something new,so now i am laughing my ass off out loud lmaool ,cool, they
should call this the oasis move, you gotta roll with it lol
@thefutureboom Well, if you do that on concrete you would probably hurt
yourself, but you'd be able to stand up quickly.. instead if you don't use
that technic the damage would be a lot more, that's for sure!
im getting fucked up of women who think that sitting in front of computer
and watching fucktarted shows from expertvillage can teach them how to
perform little, malformed pieces of martial arts... pathetic...
@mullahnasruddinQQ you mean you couldn't stand up from the finishing
position shown in this vid? That's weird because I know most people can :-)
BTW, what in your opinion is a "modern" way to roll?
this isn't just for women. You know, men fall too. and this roll is not for
people with little self defense. if a man falls, don't you want him to roll
so he won't hurt himself either?!
Well, i started learning aikido last month and this is the forward roll
type im learning right now. the only difference is that you have to put one
hand on the ground before rolling.
that roll is not in parkour we use more of just tucking our heads in and
rolling diagonal on our backs ;) i hate this roll no offence it would hurt
if you did that on cement lmao
Really? If that's the case, then what are we supposed to think of someone
like you who takes the time to watch *and* comment on videos like this?
Krav Maga technique- Forward Roll
This technique is used protect the head a spine when jumping or when being thrown. It may also be used to evade rapid moving objects. In this video I am ...
You did very well, except that you haven't put your hand as a support to
get up, which can become necessary if rolling without a boost before the
roll. But in this case I dont think it is
