DRAG RACE: Mercedes AMG GT S vs Jaguar F-Type R AWD
We head to Killarney Raceway to compare the Mercedes-AMG GT S versus the Jaguar F-Type R AWD. Watch to see the difference an all-wheel-drive system ...
Wow, Lol... You guys are really upset about the Mercedes losing. I was
expecting the Jag to lose to the Mercedes too, but this video left with me
with my jaw dropped. I love the F-Type and its good to see that it can
actually beat competition in a drag race.
It's a bad review. Jags are slow, go look at the track times. And find more reliable source than this video to back up these "horrible" drivers claim. Any longtime fans and drivers knows that was horrible launching by both of the cars. Inaccurate, don't take my word, go find better sources.
How did you manage 12.39? Renntech did 11.2 on baseline testing before they
tuned it and motor trend got 11.4 or 11.5 something like that can't
remember. This is a very slow time for the AMG and the F type for that
matter.
+NBASFAN well the F type wouldn't wheel spin, but you could see the AMG driver started a goof half a second late and didn't launch very well. There's no doubt the GTS would be the winner in real life. I mean it's a set of drag radials away from being an 11.0s car
They're just some shitty daily drivers that can't launch a car properly. Hardly see any wheelspin in the start. Anyone stepping on the throttle at all?
+Robin J there is another drag on youtube between these exact cars. The AMG won easy. This one didn't launch correctly... but if they weren't ill intentioned they would have tryied again. It's not like they only had one chance. Also, watch a couple of videos om AMG GT S. It does 0-100km/h in less than 4 seconds, a full second faster than what these guys got. Also, if you watch any other video of the AMG GT S, you will see it does the 1/4 mile in 11.2 seconds when launched correctly and abou 11.6 when launched poorly. These guys got 12.4. Come on... Oh, the AMG GT S is also in Motor Trends latest drag race along with other great cars. Check out it's numbers. It got them even though that surface is a nightmare for RWD cars.
+Laurentiu Serban Nope, of course i can't be 100% sure if it is staged, but the simply reason why the Jaguar won is the short distance to go. As you can see in the summary at the end the Merc was a lot faster, but the Jag got a better start (massive advantage of the 4-we.-drive). If you watch the data you can see that the GT would have overtaken the F-Type even since ~120kph if they had the same start.
looks like not only VW and Audi are cheating with their numbers, now
Mercedes are lying about their 0-100kmh times. Jag costs 2/3 the price of
the Merc and is 2x better car, F-Type rules.
+NBASFAN been in many Mercs, overrated, everyone follows each other like sheep. Are you still stuck in the 1970s, Jag are equal and often more reliable than the German brands, have been for the last decade...
Jag a better car? Ever been inside a SLS or AMG production car. I have and they're incredibly elegant. Jags are just some leathery materials stack next to each other. The interior has trouble even beating the Lexus RCF. AMG has the better engines and exhausts out of both, period. (P.S. Jags are shit, you know where they're made and you know how unreliable they are in vehicle production). And please, Mercs are always safety and environment first.
+TheCarxpert actually, there are alot of articles and videos proving Mercedes isn't lying. These guys just do terrible reviews. The Jag is 0.2 seconds faster to 100km than what Jaguar claims? :) And the Merc is 0.9 slower? :)) Just search for other AMG GT S times. You'll see what i mean.
+Mr Sensational every car enthusiast should cry after a review like this. The Jag is 0.2 seconds faster to 100km than what Jaguar claims and the Merc is 0.9 seconds slower? :) C`mon, stop being a kid. Look up some other AMG GT S times. You'll see that this one is a joke...
Ill have the Jagggg! Goes better, looks better and most importantly sounds
better! I'm sure the Merc will be quicker in a roll race but who gives a
shit.
+Mr Kruger the overrated car is the Jag. Know why the Mercs with AMG are more expensive? Materials, check. Quality, check. Technology, check. The Jag has non of what the Mercs are building. And in my opinion, AMG makes the better sound. Jags just loud and obnoxious similar to a ricer piping up their exhaust. Deep, mean, grumble exhaust that is what I feel like when I step on a throttle. Not a "oh look at me, I'm a little attention seeking slut hahaha" exhaust. Fame, prestige, and elegance, the Jags got nothing on a Merc. That's why they're more expensive, they know car enthusiast will know which two is the better car. Another quick note. GTS is the car of the year. Not lying.
+Laurentiu Serban It wasn't faster in the video. Send me proof that its faster in a straight line. I don't hate AMG cars. I just laugh when cheaper less snobbish cars beat them since they are so overrated.
The truth is, the AMG GT S is faster in a straight if properly driven. It's much faster from a roll. It's faster on a track. It's alot more fun and feels more manly and aggresive. In my oppinion it sounds better and looks better, but lets say this last things are subjective. The first part isn't. Oh, and the engine in the AMG GT is brilliant. It got second place in the contest for Performance Engine of the Year, after the engine in the Ferrari 458. Stop being such a hater on all AMG cars. It's kind of pathetic.

s-coupe above 2000 kg vs jag f-type only 1600 kg...you are right that is not a fair comparison...the amg is a beast...if you consider the weight difference
+Kaipeternicolas Sorry mate, you are right. I was confused by the "S" and thought of AMG S, like with the E-Class which is always AWD. Then even more impressive, this AMG!
youfatfudge stop arselicking every merc video its so annoying

Boooo. Sorry, Tiff, but I couldn't even watch the video. Firstly because
all F-Type vs._______ comparos are all missing the point of the car (yes
there faster cars than even the mighty R version, but who cares? The F-Type
stands alone as a modern day interpretation of the E-Type of the '60s, and
is basically a gorgeous GT car that can be had in regular, S, and R flavors
depending on what sort of sound you want and how quick you want to go. But
again the beauty of the F-Type, especially in coupe form, and it being a
grand touring car that can hold it's own during track days, lies in it's
aesthetics which were based on the E-Type, and the E-Type styling came from
the D-Type racecar. So comparos are missing the point. The F-Type stands
alone. Especially in this case parked next to a 911).
And if any comparison videos are going to be made about the F-Type, they
have to be done with the R. People are going to mainly buy this car for
it's looks(so those sorts of people aren't going to care if it's a
"regular," an S, or an R), but if it's performance is going to be compared
to another car, they should naturally use an R version because it's the
fasted F-Type of the bunch. And videos like this (which I did end up
watching) showed an F-Type S "flavor" car being beaten by a hum drum 911
Cabrio, which would have not happened if they used an R "flavor" F-type,
which would have done a lap at least a couple seconds faster than the 911
Cabrio, which basically is a 911 with Boxter engine hanging off the back,
+Joe Ziadan Don't get me wrong, I think the 911 is an amazing car which is a perfect example of form following function, and with amazing performance potential.I just think the F-Type is a more engaging car. It's a beautiful GT, and it can be had in several power "flavors."And I do think pitting a base 911 against an S is fair. A regular F-Type would not be a fair fight against a thoroughbred like a 911. Even a base 911 (remember that even a base 911 of today could outpace a turbo of years gone by) has the goods to turn some great laps at a track day, but a regular F-Type is soft and underpowered for its weight. I think it was a fair fight.
He used the base Porsche 911 vs the not base Jaguar so I think the comparison is not unfair for the Jag. If he had used the more expensive R he would have had to use a Carrera S which would definitely beat it. Porsche has had 50 years to refine their 911, that's why nothing for that price can give you it's performance and feel on a track. It's not just a car with the engine hanging off the back, it has a brilliant chassis which makes it handle like a dream and puts all of the engine's power to the ground. I do agree that the point of the Jag is not as a track car, but it's nice to see where it stands. If it were my money, I would still have difficulty picking whether I'd want the brilliant Porsche or the beautiful looking and sounding Jag because both cars are amazing in different ways.
actually he meant as he said boxster engine. The base 911 carrera has a 3.4l boxer 6 which actually is a tuned up version of the engine in the boxster-cayman.
Hers a cold hard fact for you. Porsche is 3 seconds faster. But, how often
will you be on a track to test your cars lap time? A lot less times then
accelerating from first gear to second on every traffic light and hearing
that Divine sound F -Type makes.
F-Type looks good, it sounds better and it turns heads a hell of a lot more
then another 911 Porsche that looks like every other 911s in the last 20 or
so years.
F-Type all the way
In the end, it's a matter of taste. For some people, it's matter of practical choice - as they can actually afford either one or the other. For most people, it's a matter of theoretical speculation and nothing more. I think the latter group is well represented here.
911 is the better car! 3 seconds on that little track is a ridiculous amount of difference! As tested by EVO magazine, the hard top V6s did a 1:26.2! Which is fast, but considering its the exact same time as a 316 hp open differential 29,995 pound M135i hatchback, its not that impressive at all!
+Eugene Gostnikov Another cold hard fact: it's not the 3 seconds you want. It's the ability and the manner in which the 911 gets that 3 seconds that matters.
+Christopher BatistaFrom my experience, those who rant against specific car models because of nebulous, highly subjective concepts like the 'douchiness' factor know the least about the cars themselves. I sense jealousy and deeply-seated insecurities with anybody who classifies people by the merchandise they purchase.
+mechmat12345You do know youre completely disproving your whole "douche theory" by being the narrow-minded porsche antagonist ranting against 911's like they picked on you in high school. By the way, predicting F-Type will be a classic in 20 years is nothing short of a joke Lol.
+mechmat12345Well, the reason I say that is because I actually have a 911, and was planning to upgrade it this year, either to a new 911, or to something entirely different. I considered the Jag for a moment, but only for a moment. It's comfortable and refined, but since this is just a weekend fun ride, I figured to stick with something a bit more impractical, and performance-oriented. You are right, though. What I think doesn't matter. It's all personal choice when it comes to this stuff, and we each have our preferences. The porsche does have a strong following, though, and they can't all be douches - just as the F Type owners can't all be old.
Old man car. LOL. It really doesn't matter what you think though. Only a certain type of people like and drive Porsche's. If they were 'just' old men, they'd be lucky. But they're not.
Gonna have to disagree. If you don't like 911s that's fine. I know plenty who do not. I also know that many people are fanatical about them. The fact that they've maintained such a strong fan base, and have remained technically relevant means that it's a great design. The Jaguar is, well, nice I guess. It just looks and feels like an old man car to me, but that's my taste. You don't have to agree.
+Alex K. Exactly.... wrong. In 20 years when the F-Type is gone it will be remember and a beautiful classic, and the 911 will still be a boring looking douche-mobile.
The fact that 911s still look the same is a testament to the car, not a detractor from styling. In another 20 years, all 911s will still have visibly common dna, and will be universally recognized, where as this Jag will be long forgotten.

Langweilige Shots, belanglose grottenschlecht
auswendig vorgetragene Texte, null Action, null fachlicher Input - seht
Einfach grausam
und reinste Zeitverschwendung. In diesem Sinne: Faaaahrzeuch, Faaaahrzeuch,
Faaaahrzeuch...
No worries Daquan Jr,I am getting a GT4 in 2 weeks and would like to have understood the video.Last time I checked English was the language of the world.
+ManOwaR 712 why u yelling at me? I'm just saying that you shouldn't speak for a population. i am german and constantly wish for english videos to be in german. be less presumptuous you twit,
so, the jaguar is better in EVERYTHING whats important for a sporty
convertible. fun, sound, look, driving, drifting, comfort.
and the porsche is better in... trunk space.. price stability..its a second
faster... eeeerrr.. so every 90 year old men will take the porsche and
every young rich men with style will take the jaguar.
not true in any way! the porsche is a better drivers car and is more comfortable! that explains why its motor trends best drivers car of the year second time in a row!
it's amazing how the shape of the car is basically the same since stone age, they just keep refining the same car to a point close to perfection. the other day i drove a boxster s, my first time on a porsche, and that thing is phenomenal it just sticks to the road like nothing else!
F Type looks prettier, has more torque, costs less (even with the full
kit), more luxurious, more comfortable, more fun and is only 1.2 seconds
slower than the "precision track car" porsche on a track... tell you what,
i think i could live with only being 1.2 sec slower, and make myself feel
better by spending the $16,634 price difference on a huge holiday :-p
+Tyler Durden+Phatch Jay +Aguy F Also I forgot to mention one thing, This wasn't a fair match because the porsche has 4 wheel drive, that only is a huge advantage... This would be more fair if the prosche tested where to be the 2s which is even lighter.Apart from that, the depreciation in the porsches, specially in the 4wheel drive and auto gearbox, in the last few years is really big, as stated in another video from another channel you could get a 2S with all the extras for 35k ....Plus, The new Jaguar Ftype Coupe is out, and is much much stiffer, and lighter, a lot of videos show that the Coupe is more of a sports car for the canyons and track, while the cabrio is more as a daily driver, highway, relaxed driving...+Auto Express So the real fight should be between the Carrera 2s vs F-Type Coupe RThat one would be THE battle!
+Aguy F+Tyler Durdenyou should not buy a car acording to the value the car will have when you sell it, you should buy it with your heart, the one that puts the bigger smile in your face is the one that should go home with you.If you like acurate driving and "discretion" probably you are looking after a Porsche. If you are looking for a car to put a smile in your face, and in the face of the rest of the people in the streets, a car that not only is gorgeous but it also sounds like a goddess! then you are totally after the jaguar.I'm a true Porsche Fanboy but Jaguar has earned my heart with this one, I just wish they offered a manual gearbox as an option, plus if i had a Porsche it would be RWD, more challenging = more fun! That being said if this jaguar is properly build, it would not loose its value as previous jaguars. This is the ULTIMATE JAGUAR so expect it to have a great value over time
+Aguy F Not to state the obvious here, but I think there exists a strong correlation between any new model line and exclusivity...so your argument is somewhat invalid. I also believe, just because there are a number of Porsche models, it does not detract from there superiority as a vehicle (Each is very different). Taking nothing away from the E-type, I just get this horrible feeling it will end up another XK...Cheap and therefore common...so in actual fact, you will find in the long run Porsche's once again prevail in the categories discussed. When depreciation is concerned, unfortunately Jaguar falls very short of Porsche's reputation and always will...depreciation will be huge factor on the F-type. Sorry.P.S depreciation is non relative to the purchase price, it's a rate.
... oh yes i forgot about that particular point. thanks for reminding me...you know i notice there are a fair few different variants of the 911's are on the market aren't there?...oh and ahh Porsche seems to release a new 911 series quite often don't they .... say ah the F type how many different variants are there on the market? you could count them on one hand i think...oh and it's the successor to the E type right...tell me when was the last E type made...quite a while ago, i think 1974-75. And you know it just seems like Porsche makes a new 911 every time the sun rises... so if we have a good hard look at the elements that contribute to depreciation of a car's value ... I think you can see where i'm going with this...PS. of course as the jaguar is cheaper than the porsche off the show room floor it will ultimately be cheaper than the porsche when you sell it after you've owned it. but i'm sure you've worked that out too. you know common sense.
Porsche have got it sooo right, better looking, faster, superior quality,
practical...the list goes on and on! Refinement is the only way to build a
winning car.
+john marsh GT3 and Turbo the best looking 911:s? Maybe if you're 14 years old and like big wings and air intakes. If you're grown up then a 50th anniversary 911 looks much much more sophisticated and refined. The jag is nice, but time will tell if it's a classic like the 911.
+Tyler Durden from my experience on this earth Porsches are usually bought to impress other people or by people who aren't very creative and immediately jump to a corvette or 911 when they want a sports car. I'd buy the jag because its better looking and because it is a jag, it has character. I've driven 911s and boxters and they aren't "refined" if by refined you mean the pure definition of them being improved each year...okay. But grace, space, and pace beat out a porsche any day in my book.
+Ian Mcdowell+Timo Zomerman Sounds better, more fuel efficient, safer, mechanically more reliable (JDPowers) I can keep going...at the end of the day, you'd only buy the Jaguar to impress other people, frankly I'd rather impress myself knowing I've bought the superior machine. If you've never driven a Porsche the word "refinement" will mean nothing to you.
+Timo Zomerman seriously! How often are you gonna take it to the track? How often are you going to look at it?Ill take the jag over the vw beetle any day
