Step by step guide to replacing a non-powered antenna on a 1997 Honda Civic. These instructions should be similar for other Civic's of similar vintage.
The hole is to the left of the pedals. With two people, have one person
pull on the antenna wire from the hole in the roof while the other person
looks under by the pedals to see it moving. You need to be able to access
the antenna wire at both ends in order to be able to tie a rope to one end
and pull from the other end. The rope can then be used to pull in the new
wire.
Thanks, so very much. Took me 20 minutes before I saw this video, and I
hadn't even located the cord. Took me about 10 minutes to fix afterwards,
took me longer than expected, since I had a friggin alarm-box in the way,
so I couldn't see a damn thing, and I had to lie flat on the back to even
have a chance of finding the hole with my hand. So, thanks again!
Your new antenna should have come with a plastic cover fitted to it along
with the rubber piece. If you have a used antenna or are trying to make
something fit through your old cover then you'll have to adjust as required
to make it work. Without seeing what you have it is hard to say for certain
what would work best.
Thanks for your help. :) I think the rubber cover is the one already
screwed on the car. I noticed that it could be cut open. I think thats what
youre talking about. I didnt buy a new antenna. When I got the car, the
antenna was just laying in the truck and never installed.
The antenna goes through both a plastic piece and a rubber piece. The
rubber piece sits under the plastic piece once the new antenna is screwed
on. At 1:52 you can clearly see the rubber piece which has the cable
running through it. Good luck with your install!
i love the internet. going by the (poorly) written instructions that came
with my replacement antenna, i'd given up, and was going to just schedule a
visit to the local honda shop to do it for me. probably saved me $75 by
watching this video. thank you so much!
@mileserin123 This is why it is important to use good string/rope and
fasten securely with knot and tape. The hole inside the car is almost
impossible to see - it is so far back and behind a box. Google for
suggestions of how to deal with this situation.
Oh no wonder! Mine didn't have an antenna to begin with. It just had that
plastic cover. When I tried to install the new antenna, I took the cover
completely off. That's why the alignment was wrong. So do I cut a hole in
the plastic cover?
The string broke on the way out at the top. We can't figure out by the
picture where the hole is for the antenna (inside the car). Can you give us
an explanation of where we can locate it?
not sure if you answered this question but at the bottom where all the
wires are, where is that whole located that antenna line is suppose to come
from? I don't know where to even look

1997 Honda Civic replace radio antenna part 1
Hope this will help you to remove and replace the antenna and wire. Do NOT pull the wire out without first taping a flexible wire or equivalent so you can use it to ...
Thanks for this video -you saved me a lot of work as now I know it's not
neccessary to disconnect the plug from the radio itself but behind the
panel. Only diff is that I'm working on the other side (UK steering wheel
on the right) Reason I'm changing Antenna is because original stem is not
telescopic (for some reason) so gets beaten about and bent in the carwash!.
Anyway now to work!
97 Civic radio antenna wire Part 2
couple of helpful hints when replacing the antenna and wire on a 97 Honda Civic. Should help with other years, too. I am not afilliated with Honda.
at this point,i think you will have to try a coat hanger. i would wrap the
end with masking tape [so it can be seen in the dark area], slide it down
the w/s post and either try to see the end with a light or feel for it to
come to where you can pull it thru and tape your string back on and then
pull it back up the post. and start over. hope this helps
