Love the truck was thinking of doing that to mine also! Where does a guy
get a good line on aftermarket stuff for the first gen Dakota? Up here in
Canada it seems to be slim pickings.if you can even find anything.
Prerunnerlover, honestly the swap was easy, Just swap out the 3.9 for the
5.9 if you can get ahold of one, honestly I was lucky. The guy I bought it
from had everything already. I paid less that five grand for what I got
now, and I could not be more happier. I have a 96 and everything swapped
over fine, as far as a 99' Im pretty sure it is all the same. As far as
performance....are you kidding me? a 3.9 vs a 5.9? oh there is such a
difference. LOL. Gas mileage...forget that...Fun mileage? There is plenty
of that! Honestly if you can do it yourself it makes it that much more
worth it. Don't ever doubt yourself as far as making more power. If you can
dream it you can do it! That's my philosophy! It makes things so much
better! To do things yourself, makes things more interesting! If you need
any information just message me!
I'm not sure what all I put on this video but if you would like a full range of parts you'll need let me know I can help u out. I had posted this video because no one had anything on how it was done an it's not hard
Which flywheel do you have to get? Really great video man. Planning on
doing this soon. And by the way, I have a '99 half ton with the 5.9. It's
four wheel drive, extended cab, short bed with 215,000 miles on it and it
has the 46rh. But the only thing that has ever been done to the
transmission is that the pan has been dropped and then the filter changed
and I put in a bottle of the Lucas stop slip with the ATF+4. Only slipped a
couple times since then. But yeah I want to get this done before my
transmission completely shits out on me.
U just have to get the flywheel that is balanced for a 5.9 gas it's dif from a 5.2 an sometimes u have to drill out the crank out to fit the pilot bearing it's not to hard to do an nice sharp carbon burr an slowly make the hole bigger until your pilot bearing fits snuggle an check after u put in the rollers still roll freely an if it does ur done if not time to get a new one there cheap I fucked up my first one so don't feel bad if u do an it's going to take about 30 mins of grinding to open the hole up, an on your auto try adjusting the band's it's a little tricky but not to hard to do that might help your slip
Dodge Dakota 5.9L swap
Finally got the 5.9 to start up after months of working on the swap.. Sorry about the quality.. It's only a camera phone... I'll get a better vid with my actual camera ...
2000 Dodge Dakota 5.9 4x4 with 5 speed nv3500 swap
Summer of 2013, I rebuilt the upper end with dealership parts, redid the exhaust with pace setter headers, cat delete, and a dynomax ultraflo ss 3in. with a 3in ...
transmission, flywheel, clutch.... lol... if its 2000 or newer, you need to reprogram the ECU to not throw codes for the transmission... i just wired the neutral safety switch to a switch. hydraulics from a 2000 ram with a 5.9. lengthen/shorten driveline (s) depending of difference in trans length. i could walk you through it if you ever had the funds for it. its a fun project, end result is amazing
Kota running with 5.9 360 Swap and 5 speed conversion complete..
3.9 to 5.9 swap paired with a NV3500 5 speed. This option was never offered by Dodge. Many hours of labor, frustration, money and research was put into this ...
I am very interested in this swap and researching to convert my 1st gen
Durango 5.9L to a 5 speed. Are you willing to share any of your research
with me? I am interested in actually doing it and not just talking about
it.
Does it hall ass or what? ha i got a 2001 dodge ram 5.2 5 speed 4x4 im
gonna put a 360 in, im sure thats much eaier than what you had to do. you
put put acceleration vid up.
I'm not a chevy hater or an ls hater. I just dont like cross breeding ever.
Mostly in old hot rods where sbc is always put in because they are cheap to
build. I also agree that this would have been a really cool project if you
had done a late model hemi swap. But that would have likely doubled your
cost. But you get what you pay for
So please explain the VW rabbit engine in the Dode Omni , the Mitsubishi engine in the Dodge Conquest, the Mitsubishi engine in the Plymouth Laser, or any of the other non-Chrysler Chrysler cars. How about the NAG1 (Mercedes) transmission stuck inside Dodge Magnum, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger vehicles? Seems the Dodge nameplate has had about as many episodes of cross-breeding as your sister at a party.
i bought a wrecked 2500 ram , that was my doner truck ,, i did all the work
myself , so it only cost me what the doner truck cost ... i will say if
dont have a hole truck for parts dont atemped it , and if the trucks are
the same years it will easyer as far as electrical connectors matching up
... i had to update everything , harnesses , dash , ABS brake system ,,,,
ny truck is a 97 ,, doner was a 99 , nothing matched up .. but the engine
did bolt right in without any mods .. thanks
