@americanbandwidth My point is that you shouldn't consider 2 Asian countries the same, which you did. Gm has already changed and you have been living under a rock if you haven't noticed, The Volt won NA car of the year from both public and private entities. The Chevy Cruze is one of the highest reviewed compacts on the road beating out Corolla and Civic. The Cadillac brand is the fastest growing luxury brand in the states. Buick outsold Lexus in February. We still make the best fullsized pickups

@americanbandwidth Yes Ford is better in every sense of the word when compared to Chevy, not GM though as a whole, too many branches. Ford's also I believe number 2 in quality at CR and number 1 or 2 for brand loyalty. Ford makes an excellent product these days and they are the number 1 selling car in many segments in Europe. All of Ford's passenger cars are or will be German engineered in the next 2 years, except for the Taurus. Trucks will stay US derived. Check out Truedelta com and learn

@stanbernadino The true advantage of the Capitalist system, or Free Market, is the most simple method of voting ever invented. You don't like it? You don't buy it. If Anyone doesn't like a Deal they can just not do business. In a Regulated Market the controls set up don't allow the Free Market to function, it removes the chance for the consumer to demand a better Deal by forcing the same consumer to invest in businesses that can't sell their products to the very people paying all the bills.

@flatblackstrat What's your point? That GM makes a product as bad as Chinese products? That Gm makes a product as good as the Japanese? GM makes a crap product, it has for years and they refuse to change expecting the Americans to buy their crap cars or to get Government to take the money from them anyway with out giving them a crap car. That is what they do in Budapest not the USA. The Free Market is why Japanese and German cars are the best, the consumer forced a better product into being

Ah yes, the ethics of socialists who don't create wealth but who think that it's somehow okay to take it away from those who do create it and then have the added perversity of wanting to cap their salaries. That's why I just can't buy any car made by the UAW. By-the-way, the ones creating the wealth are NOT the union workers, the wealth creation comes from the ones with the intellectual capital, the ideas, and the risk-takers, not the cozy salary recipients who do a job anyone else can do.

@americanbandwidth I see what you're saying, even though a completely 'free market' system will eventually fail when companies merge creating monopolies where you have no choice but to buy from the company that does things you dislike, and charges too much for the products you need. But it doesn't negate the fact that it's bad PR these days for companies to be paying CEO's that much, because it will hurt their business when people become disgusted with these ridiculous benefits packages.

@flatblackstrat Oh I agree, While in Europe Ford was the choice of everyone I know there. The Mondeo may be the best car for the money on Earth. Vauxhall and Citron were the butt of all the jokes. I'm not debating the dollar per cost value of a Ford, only that they took cash from the Government and have yet to repay it. Therefore I omitted them from my rant. My issue is the dishonesty of Chrysler and GM. Ford at least does make a good product, for the most part.

Right, 57M for one year salary is way too much. That equals every Customer who bought FORD pay $10 to Mulally. Ford still has a lot of debt to pay off. Executives of Japanese, Geman and Korean car maker got paid much less. Mulally's and BILL FORD's efforts was substantial but mainly. Recovry of Ford is the result of all employee's sacrifices and loyal customers like me. I would not buy FORD again. immoral

@cosmicdust22 I'm sure Ford's turnaround has nothing to them pumping out some of the best quality cars in the US! If your math is right, $10 per car is pretty insignificant. I don't think you give Mulally enough credit. He stuck his neck out there as well and made some crucial decisions that has brought Ford where they are and has saved a lot of jobs!

@undeadkillers IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE THE ONE OF THE PLACES AMERICAN CAR MAKERS GET PARTS IS CHINA SO THE CAR STILL HAS LOWER QUALITY FOREIGN PARTS IN THEM AND THE EXAMPLE TO ME WAS THE SO CALLED PART SHORTAGE THAT EMERGING NOW THATS BECAUSE ALL OF THE WORLDS CAR MAKERS ARE EXCHANGING PARTS FUNNY ISN'T IT ???

@USA4July1776 I doubt the guy is a socialist, the problem here is that in the midst of massive cost-cutting and job outsourcing by large corporations, CEO's making these ridiculous amounts of money while thousands of middle class people are being laid off makes a company looks really bad.

@USA4July1776 the uaw doesnt make cars. every time some idiot says they wont uy a car "made by the uaw" all you are doing is hurting american carmakers and the people that make them. yes the uaw should burn in hell, but its not going away and there is nothing the big 3 can do about it.

@undeadkillers GM's are Chinese cars, all the parts are made in China or Japan. GM have the 2nd worst track record of all car makers on earth, only Chrysler is worse. Tata makes a better car than GM and it's $2500 and made in India.
