I think Stephen Cohen is a brilliant man with a deep perception of Stalin and the history of his time. But, the Soviet era did not end with Stalin. Also, oppressors are not all victims, some are willing conspirators. Stalin's crimes cannot be denied. As indeed cannot be denied the crimes of others, Hitler and his allies. But one fact we may have to live with is that without Stalin it is unlikely Russia would have defeated Hitler. Stephen Cohen knows this as he presents a very balanced view of events as shown in this programme.
