Occupy Storefront Black Friday Mic Check @ Walmart
After our free store Black Friday event in the Walmart parking lot in Centereach Long Island we did a mic check in the store in support of Walmart workers.
Walmart workers on Long Island are mistreated. Many came up to us
throughout the day, telling us stories. One said they can only afford to
live by working overnight shifts, otherwise they don't get enough hours.
Some women talked about being treated horribly by male management. One was
a shopper who said he was fired after a physical altercation with his boss.
Many workers thanked us on the way in or from their shifts. They are smart
but they have limited choices. I hope this gave them strength.
The next one may pay even less, and offer no benifits. You are wasting
you're time protesting walmart, I know I speak for many of my fellow
associates when I say we don't need anyone to speak for us. Why not work on
getting minimum wages raised or protest over other companies such as
hostess screwing their workers out of jobs and pensions. There is so much
more needed to fix the economic climate today and closing walmart will just
force people into lower paying jobs and onto the welfare rolls.
after 6 weeks of getting excuses as to why my raise to 9.00 an hr had not
come through yet I left. I took a position at walmart as a cashier at a
significant increase to my previous hrly rate. I also now get paid
vacation, affordable health ins., a 401k, quarterly bonuses. You have to
keep in mind at any place of employment you will have disgruntled employees
especially ones that were fired. You can put walmart out of business but
someone else will step right in and take there place,
...your making the walmart workers lose money, and your only in it for the
attention you narcissistic douche bags! target workers and k-mart workers
get paid less so why don't you take your attention seeking asses out of the
spot light?! my mom works at walmart and she agrees! the walmart workers
kicked them out because they don't need this BS! your making their lifes
harder! why don't you do everyone a favor and mind your own fucking
BUISNESS!! ever think of that?!
someone who possesses the ability to critically think about what you just
posted... would think in very short order that you are mentally handicapped
and are in need of an education. occupy protesters spending 3 minutes and
41 seconds yelling "Hey Walmart you need to pay your employees a living
wage" does not cause walmart employees to lose money. target workers and
kmart workers getting paid less does not justify the prolific mistreatment
of walmart employees...
"Just because Walmart workers are not smart enough to see how they are
mistreated..." Do you realize how offensive this is? Maybe you aren't smart
enough to realize that Walmart workers on fucking Long Island just aren't
getting mistreated. That doesn't mean other Walmarts in other places aren't
mistreating their workers. Why do you think, as a protester, you know more
than the people you're supposedly in solidarity with who actually work in
the place?
just because walmart workers are not smart enough to see how they are
mistreated, is not reason to not protest and raise awareness, and finally,
if you are a taxpayer, it IS your business, because nearly a half a million
dollars per store per year is spent by taxpayers supplementing the poverty
wages... your time and effort would be better spent, not being a douche bag
yourself and fact checking the protesters message.
Walmart is no worse than any other retail store, in fact I can say from
experience it is much better than most. I work at that walmart, I left a
job as the asst. Manager at another retail establishment where I was
hourly. I made 7.50 an hr as a cashier at my previous employer and had to
eat my lunch at the register between customers. after 3 mos I made asst.
mngr.
I know you were scared, I was scared for you, KUDOS for going through with
it. May everyone boycott them and bring them down! 35M is pathetic!!!!!
When you say 15K a year is being way nicer than fact, all their employees
(less management) are all part-time and that means some only get 1 day a
week.
Wal-Mart workers threw them out because Wal-Mart workers don't want to deal
with people causing any more of a ruckus than they need to on a 12 hour
shift. Demonstrations like this don't matter to anyone other than the
workers who are being harrassed
yeah, i saw you guys at my store yesterday a few minutes north in setauket.
I also saw you get kicked out within 2 minutes. Thanks for the support but
i dont think a $203B company really cares much about the voices of a few
protesters.
yeah, but when they stand in front of the store yelling "don't go here! go
to Big lots!" that makes the walmart workers lose customers, hence, losing
money! so shut up and know what you are actually talking about you ignorant
prick!
walmart is not bad there are other places that are getting paid less just
because you guys have nothing to do doesnt mean you should come into our
store and think we are getting paid bad because we are not - A WALMART
EMPLOYEE
This is my walmart, i used to work at this store! i got fired for being in
the hospital! they did not pay me enough for any of the work i did, i hated
that place and being fired was the best day of my life!
There'll be an encore this year: #BlackFriday #Walmartstrikers #FreeStore:

yes it was filmed on black friday, I was there. And yes...the store was
empty. I live in this area & it was more empty than on a typical shopping
day. What does that tell you?
Actually one associate was told "don't shop there we have free stuff, or go
to big lots" I guess they didn't realize she was on her way to start her
shift.
We more of this. More solidarity. Thank you Occupy.
