I have an 07 Rabbit and it's rusting EVERYWHERE. It's currently at the
body shop under the VW warrenty to replace the following:
* Hood
* Tailgate
* Front Left Fender
* Front Right Fender
Being repaired:
* Rear Right Qtr Panel
* Rear Left Qtr Panel.
It's also rusting at the bottom front corner of my driver side door and on
the frame right below it. VW won't cover this they said...Told me it's
caused by snow build up in the door??? Can't say I"m happy with their
support on this issue, regardless of replacing some work, the entire body
is full of galvanized issues.

My dealership knows of the paint issues. I spoke with a different dealer yesterday and he said VW didn't galvanize a bunch of their cars but it's been corrected now in the newer models so this likely affects the 05-08 ranges maybe
