This video outlines the steps to remove the alternator on 2009 VW Jetta TDI. The alternator is in a very tight and confined space - making it a long process to ...
VW dealer gave me a quote of $800 for this job. I will do it myself. I see
alternators list on line starting at less than $100 and for as high $400+.
Even at the high end, that's half the price the VW garage wants to charge
me.
The main question. Doesn't unhooking the battery reset the engine computer
and alarm system? If it does, and I end up at the dealer, they'll truly
burn me on the repairs.

VW Jetta Tdi Alternator removal & Voltage Regulator Repair part 2
This video shows how to remove the alternator, replace the voltage regulator and replace the de-clutch pulley on your VW Jetta Tdi.
Thank you for this 2 part video. Time to fix mine now. I have a 1998 Jetta
2.0 gasoline engine and am lucky I should be able to remove the alternator
cover without moving the alternator at all. It is a 90 amp Bosch just as
you expected. We will see how it goes. I also have to find where I can get
a replacement voltage regulator without having to go to the dealer.
I have removed my alternator cover and voltage regulator and found the
exact same problem as you had. I have ordered a replacement. Thank you
again dieselworld, you helped save me hundreds of dollars.
just finished doing it today took me some time but i didn't remove bumper,
headlight and not disconnected the coolant upper hose none of these were
necessary to do it it's tight there i know all i did is unscrew 3 screws
which holds the small fan to rad assembly and move the small fan to the
side to get more room and then some time tetris playing flipping the
alternator in there finding the right spot to come out
