Reckon I better invest in your videos. My 68 Cam is pretty rusted out in
the trunk and I might be better off building a jig to keep everything
aligned since I'll need to replace a lot of metal. She was a rollover that
was repaired by a body shop years before I bought her in 1984. I'm hoping
that they made sure she was straight but looking at the job they did I have
to wonder. Might be money ahead taking it to a shop to have it checked out.
She has lots of options but just a regular RS 327 /PG.
lol i just finished restoring my trunk lol.. just primed the entire trunk
pan to the rear backseat area with like 3-4 primer coats, gona smooth it
up, got the gas tank pan area caulked, the area the gas tank edges sit on
in my 62 falcon, did about 1 inch by 1/4 a inch of high build caulking,
then used a putty knife to flaten it the besti could, turned out nice, not
sure to put another layer on or not... probably not...i think it got
flattened pretty nice
When is the shopping cart going to be working again on your website? I'm
trying to order at least 3 of your videos, but can't. Is there anywhere
else I can order them from? Or any other way to buy? Trying to give you
money here!
Do you do any kind of rust prevention on the exposed gas tank support rails
before you weld the new trunk pan down. I wouldn't think you would just
weld down on exposed metal.....what about some weld through paint or
primer?
trying to restore a 1962 ford falcon trunk, got it stripped and treating

Welding in Trunk Floor in Dodge Challenger MUSCLE CARS & HOT RODS Episode 67
In this episode Jeffry welds the trunk floor and deck filler in the 1973 Dodge Challenger and removes the right quarter panel. Then we prepare and fit the new ...
People are worried about EDP coated panels. Reseach it. Google it. They are
good to go. 25 Years body, I clean panels both sides, your going to handle
both sides, with Dawn dish washing soap, no scents, no lotions. Clean with
Windex or other glass cleaners, no scents, no lotions. 36-80 grit, clean as
above, then body filler. 220 wet with Dawn dish soap, clean wet sanding
paper frequently and your substrate with wet towel, rinse no soap.
@bigpencap Don't have much experience with the weld through primer myself,
the people I learned from always talked bad about the contamination of the
weld so I never tried it. If it was me I'd prime the pan with epoxy then a
coat of surfacer primer before I installed the pans. Then I'd prep the
areas to be welded once that cured. and of course seal the bare metal after
the pans in.
I enjoy watching and learning from your vids. They have inspired me to take
on the metal repair and body work on my 1953 M38A1 Willys Jeep. As a welder
and fabricator I never took on any body work. (I hate sanding) My Dad was a
body craftsman when they used lead. So keep up the good work and keep those
videos comming
Hey James, I 'm installing a 2 piece trunk pan in my 1971 challenger the
pan is bare metal , should i use a weld tru primer on the bottom of the
trunk pan that is being covered by the frame rail? Also should I spray weld
thru primer on top of the frame rail that the top of the trunk pan is
covering? Thanks - Tarik
@Skeletoil I too think EDP is a great process however, every once in a
while you run into aftermarket panels that weren't prepped properly and the
EDP might not feather in ares or over the entire panel in other instances.
If this is the case stripping the EDP or feathering it back is recommended.
13's are easy with a 340. Put a 440 in it and never look back. Money spent
on prep on a Small Block is the same as a Big Block.. A 440 or a 498 will
fit the chassis. A guy that races with me runs 10.4's with a 498 & B1
heads.. Get 'er done.. ;=) Les
Oh I've already taken the dive. I welded all the cracks in the fender lips
and 3 rust spots in the body and a lot of holes all over. I widened the
rear fenders for tire clearxnce, and rewiring it and a bunch of other drive
train stuff,
Hey James.. Nice work.. Agree on aftermarket stuff.. Funny ya show a
converter on the beginning screen and my converter died last weekend at the
track.. Cool Tool tip.. Les
Woah totally didn't know you were so close! I'm an hour south of you haha.

Hi Rich ... Finally someone who does it right ! I can't tell you how
impressive it is to see a proper and as near to factory duplication. These
Chargers are rare and should be done properly. I wouldn't consider anyone
to work on My 69 R/T but after watching this I would consider you guys.

Trunk Floor Pan Removal 1973 Dart Sport MUSCLE CARS & HOT RODS Episode 180
9-month old video I know, but I wanted to comment on the step-drill,
welding upside down comments. The step drill is a great tip for getting a
panel out cleanly, but when it comes to areas that you are going to have to
re-weld upside down, I prefer a plug cutter so you can leave some metal
behind to weld to when you reinstall the panel. As for the welds by the
trunk lock that couldn't be drilled with the step cutter, this would have
been a perfect spot for a plug cutter. Just my opinion though!
come on 318s can be very beefy power houses for what they are. and very
customisable and interchangeable parts, heads, crank, pistons, cams etc...
my 72 Demon came with a 318, very strong dependable small block. which is
now a 360 with a phone book of mods, putting out more than 500 HP. and its
street legal getting 8 mpg lol. anyways man, awesome vids! glad Pete sent
me to subscribe! names Will, owner operator of Blazin' Custom Auto Repair.
You name it, I do it.
way to rag on the car-hahahaha Nice work but why drill thru and leave
yourself with upside plug welds? I hear ya about drilling holes a little
big and how they shouldn't be a problem but I can't stand welding upside
down . I can't say I've perfected that weld too well. I've tried keeping
the tip close, trigger to keep it from sagging, but nothing I've done will
make it as pretty as normal plugs. Wire speed maybe? What do you do
different for upside down plugs?
If you think about it, 318's were produced from 1967 to 2001, rock solid
reliable engines, capable of fuel mileage in the mid 20's if tuned
correctly and given the right gearing, and as far as replacement parts (30+
years), they are EVERYWHERE!. A mild cam and the right set of heads and you
have a great daily driven motor. I personally have 4 vehicles with 318s and
have had 360's in the past, and I will pick the 318 every time.
@sanchtech Ok the down side to this awesomeness. Upside down welds; tight
joint, tight torch angle, trigger the switch and a bit more heat sounds
like the right way to go to me. I've got a long road ahead of me on this
hurdle as well. A man like Gary with all his experience acts like it's a no
brainer so I follow his lead and work out my technique issues. If you had
to weld upside down you'd have to get good at it at some point.
I have a friend that I've known since grade one, anyway he had a Dart Sport
and never really knew what he had. It was only a slant six car but awesome
shape. My other friends Grama had it so there you go. He only had it for a
few months and then he got rid of it. I've seen Dart Sports at car shows
and 73 -74's look pretty good when they're nicely done up .......in my
humble opinion lol
@jamesfreddys There's a guy here in town who has one. It looks like a 70-72
Duster with the mean looking grill. What do you call them? I call them 340
grills but I think they're called Shark Tooth grills or something like that
but the thing is he left it Dart Sport in the rear tail lights..WHY WOULD
HE DO THAT!!! lol
if you remove the wheel well and make the trunk floor flat you could maybe
find a space saver tyre to jam between the flat trunk floor and gas tank ,
you could have a 3/8 threaded rod going through the trunk floor with a
spare mag nut to hold it up in place ????
@4HitsWilystyle I'm building a '72 Dart, my favorite year. Sounds like a
radical small block but I still don regret setting my 318 2 barrel in the
alley for the scrappers to take. Look forward to knowing abit more from you
as we have similar interests.
i swear jeff, you are the man with that air hammer. no one cuts through a
can like you do. always grate work! I have watched many of your videos and
they have helped me extremely. thanks again
Thanks Jeff. I wouldn't have taken the time to respect that car. You are
probably going to make a Mopar guys day when he starts to restore that car
and realizes it was dissembled by a pro.
Lost of tools offer that same kind of replacement warranty. Snap-on just
gets all the bad rap cause they are by far the most expensive tools and
turning wrenches is not a rich man's game.
@jamesfreddys You know I'm not sure. There was a really nice black 73 Dart
not a Dart Sport with a 340 in it here in Winfield. I'll have to do some
searching to find out
@moparnutalways You know I like the 3G Hemi 20+ mpg's 390 horse. If I was
going old school and spending the money to build a block I'd go 440.
