I decided to try Philippine Airlines direct flight from London Heathrow to Manila NAIA. I was surprised and worried when I looked around the plane (A343) and ...

PAL.(im a philippine citizen)
Looking at your video I'm very surprised that economy - and even first
class, look very dated and even the kind of seats you'd expect on
domestic/regional flights! As convenient as it is, I think I'd much rather
change planes and go Emirates, Cathay or Singapore Airlines to Manila
rather than pay £500 for PAL. Actually, I was on a Lufthansa A340 a few
years ago from Frankfurt to Addis Abbaba via Khartoum (8 hours), and that
had no PTV's either. As an Airline that considers itself to be World Class,
surely that should come as standard on all their long haul aircraft?
Nowadays if i'm travelling long-haul, I do my research first rather than be
disappointed.
At the time, I paid the same for PAL as Cathay Pacific. There's no way I'd use PAL for this route again, the convenience of a single direct flight doesn't outweigh the onboard experience and old planes.
Hey dude, I usually fly with Malaysia or Singapore Airlines going to
Manila. This time I've decided to book with PAL to try out the direct
flight. I'm leaving in 7 weeks.
The idea of iPads as the main entertainment device sounds awful. Did you
walk past the Business Class? Because I'm thinking about changing my
booking to business class, it's about £300 more.
+botchok5 I can't remember. I think it was the same deal in the business class. I vaguely remember passing through and wondering why they didn't have screens. But it was so long ago I could be wrong.
Wow, that's one boring long flight. The biggest issue here is no tv screens
on front for a long 13-14 hour flight. I would rather go to another airline
and get a connecting flight than that.
+sean creedon Yeah, the entertainment system needs improvements. Some way to mount the ipad so you don't have to strain your neck would be helpful. I think they've already done this on some of their planes by adding an ipad holder to the back of the chairs. They also need a LOT more content on the ipad. Cathay Pacific and Emirates have a lot more movies and TV shows on their systems. I think the flight time was extended (14-15 hours) because planes are now avoiding certain parts of middle east airspace due to terrorist/war activities. If they improved the entertainment system and used better planes, they'd be my number one choice. But as it is, I'm likely to just go back to other airlines.
Did PAL's iPads also contained most of the other in-house Apps associated
with a normal iPad such as Safari, iBooks?
The A330s will surely support the new inAir app. I read accessing the local
(in-flight) content will be free of charge but I would imagine the content
will be similar to what is offered on the pre-loaded iPads.
+Jm Lim Nope, it was restricted to a basic set of applications and there wasn't wifi anyway so there would be no need for safari. I'd assume that their flights that include wifi would have safari enabled.
+dancena2 It was okay. I can't say I had a great experience because they didn't load my ordered meals on the plane so I had little to eat but fruit for 15 hours. And the entertainment system needs some work. The staff are certainly a lot friendlier than Cathay Pacific. I'd probably go back to using Cathay Pacific or Emirates for any future trips between UK and PH because they use more modern planes, have better entertainment systems and so far I haven't had any problems with the meals. I thought the direct flight would cut a lot of time off the journey but actually it didn't make too much difference.
The flight was meant to leave at 5:45 but I think it was 30-60 minutes late taking off. Then we hit some turbulence so they didn't hand out the ipads as early as expected. Then I wasted quite a lot of time trying various options to record my audio because there's so much background noise on the plane that it's really hard to get clear audio. So yeah, after all that I guess it's dark already!
looks like you had plenty of leg room to me im tall and fat yes I like
Singapore ill be on that on Monday night to arrive in Cebu Tuesday thanks
never seen inside pal look good wonder what you meal was like ?
I paid for the exit row seat so I would get the extra leg room. It really helps on long flights. I ordered special meals but unfortunately they weren't boarded so I was left with bread and fruits for the 15 hours. Better than nothing I guess.

We are better than Athens or Sparta. We are the most modern country in the world. Go anywhere in the world and where do other people want to come here. Why because we have what they call the bill of rights And I am not a racist.
Julie but there are other animals that could also resemble America besides the eagle, I mean I do like it as a symbol but this guy is just pointing out that America should not have a bald eagle as a symbol, here are other traits that resemble America: brave, powerful, amzing, graceful, welcoming and much more powerful should resemble either the cougar, wolf or bear.
I'm sorry for you for even saying you don't like eagles. Are you American cause if you are you should be flogged for even saying the swear word near an eagle. Eagles are a symbol of freedom.

It's obvious your biased towards the Philippine Eagle. Did you compare the
grip force of the eagles you mentioned? Eagles will prey upon what is most
abundant. The Harpy is a treetop predator and will prey upon those animals
amongst the treetops. What predatory animal wouldn't go for a sloth? You
also failed to mention the the African Crowned Eagle, that while
substantially smaller than those you mentioned, takes down 35 lb. Bush
Buck. True they can't carry it, but in terms of strength, it deserves a
mention. Just as the Golden Eagle will routinely attack and kill mountain
goats and deer and has been recorded flying with the full weight of the
animal back to it's nest.
+leevum1 -It will always depend on the specie of eagle some eagle can only take on what prey is available in their home-range specifically to a non migratory eagle like most of the forest eagles such as Harpy and Philippine eagles, Any large eagle can tackle a deer because a defenseless deer is no match to an aerial powerful predators like eagles. You can probably rate them according to their regular prey takings like The Harpy eagle which is basically a Sloth eater 80-90% of its diet is composed of Sloth, small monkeys and birds, Martial eagle is known to chiefly feed on birds and reptiles and it was also known to take the largest prey and have predated adult;duikers;weighing up to 37kg (82;lbs) Golden eagles known to attacked adult reindeer.
