How to crochet popcorn stitch Videos

+Jadea McDermott It is not a new stitch but it is indeed a popcorn stitch. The cluster stitch is not closed after each time you begin each double crochet, meaning you don't complete the double crochet each time as you do in the popcorn stitch.  To do a cluster: Yarn over (yo), insert hook into the next stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn thru the stitch, yarn over, draw yarn thru 2 loops on the hook. 2 loops remain on the hook,. (repeat 3 more times). You should have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull yarn thru all 5 loops. You cluster stitch is now complete. This video is for a popcorn stitch. You can check with other instructors of the Crochet Guild of America.. This is why I said there seems to be confusion regarding the puff stitch, cluster and popcorn stitch. With a puff stitch you only repeat the first steps 2 more times instead of 3. I hope this clears up the confusion.

I'm making a round pillow that has two rounds of popcorn stitches. I could not figure out what was going wrong and I looked at a dozen websites and videos and then I found your tutorial. And WOW! What a difference this makes! I think I have a new favorite stitch! Thank you so much!

To save time, there is no need to take the hook out--just turn work, insert hook into top loop of first stitch, yarn over, pull through both stitches (slip stitch) and chain one. Turn the work back for the next popcorn stitch.
