Can you tell me the name of the stitch on your background? I am trying to
relearn what my Grandmother taught me from memory. It isn't working! I
think your background piece is how she taught me and I would like to learn
it again. Thanks!
ONce again, you can only go so slow to teach...Im sorry you are having issues with understanding, its just something you will need to practice with..ppl have different speeds of learning..my children have learned to crochet from my videos at 16 and have had no issues,, so again its not my speed of teaching its the speed at which one can learn the process..Good luck on your learning:)
+LeAnna Wanli Everyone has different speeds of learning...its not about my going to fast...if i go any slower, i will not be able to teach...it becomes if you are understanding the stitch...an instructor can only go but so slow...before coming to a complete standstill..Im sorry you are having troubles, good luck in your beginning lessons.
+Meryl Brown Haha what I did was iron it when I was finished. LOL I am only 15 and I am working on my mini blanket, which is my first project with crochet, and I have ironed a part of it and it looked really cool.
Not sure what you are doing to make them that way....you need to be counting your stitches as well,, if you arent sure ..use a stitch marker on each end
Thank you for sharing this,Ive been trying to crochet for a while and
always reach a point and stop out of frustration,I have books but learn
better by seeing it done, thanks again,Im looking forward to many crochet
projects :)
Thanks again for the reply. I'm almost done with a scarf project. I've been trying to watch the tension like you suggested and I have to say, I can defiantly see a difference from the beginning and now. Thanks again for the advise and I will keep practicing.
i would say your tension on your stitches are not the same..you need to work on keeping each stitch the same..that comes with time and practice..best way to get that is to do a project that consists of all single crochet..i wouldnt recommend this but its your choice..my very first project was a full size afghan done in all Single Crochet..took forever..but i mastered the tension with that..so that would be my advice:)..Good Luck!
How to you keep you rows straight and uniform? My lines are pretty wonkie and the stitching never seems to be the same size, some tight then too lose. Any tips? Thanks for you help.
Hi Amy..you dont have to do it alone..feel free to hang out with me..i have many beginning tutorials for you to follow and i will do my best to answer questions as i can:))...im sure you will and are doing great so keep up the great work!!!!
How to do the 2nd row of crochet.
This is a video I made of how to do the second row of double crochet and I am also using a size I needle. Hope it helps. :)
in a single crochet, you you dont wrap the yarn around the hook before you
go into the loop in your work. and in a double crochet you wrap the yarn
around the hook once before you go into the loop in your work. the single
crochet is also a shorter stitch. hopefully i was able to answer your
question. :) if not, feel free to ask me any other questions you may have
about it. :)
R those real or fake nails? I hav pretty long nails but only on my thumbs
and pinkys usually. Lol and btw I think tht u were going way too fast for
beginners like me but it was definitely a very well done presentation/video
tht you've got there lol. But thanx! -Keni
@jackbarney1 well it depends. some people like taking the class, and some
people just like watching some videos on how to crochet. im sorry that
you're not able to get it yet. just keep watching some more videos and im
sure you'll get it. :) goodluck! :)
Great vid! Very clear! I learned to crochet by watching awesome videos like
yours. Thanks for posting. For people who still don't get it. Don't give
up. Watch Mikey'smaill he's good too and so many others!
@genesisherrea i have a video of that actually. its called how to chain and
double crochet. its on my channel. i show how to start it from the very
beginning and the first row. hope that helps! :)
@beccabug2001 in this video im only showing how to do the ends. if you go
to my other video thats called how to chain and double crochet, i show how
to begin crocheting and how to do each stitch.
Thank you very much for posting this. The focus was nice and the video easy
to follow. I wasn't sure about how to go into the stitch, but you showed
how to include both loops. Very helpful!
well this helped me because i was putting the first stitch into the first
space and it was wrong, so i was glad i watched this. i understood it
completely. it helped me!
Continued from my last comment below: So now U work across the row and when
U reach the end U chain up again, then turn the entire work until that
little piece of yarn hanging down (which is on Ur right at the moment) will
then be hanging down on Ur left. Then U just repeat the process. I'm still
a total newbie at this so if this doesn't apply to round patterns or
whatever..I'm not sure, but for simple beginner learning of just working
rows of stitches I know this is correct & hope it helps :)
RE: the turning of the work. Here is a little trick I was taught when I was
confused on what turning meant. U know how when U first make a slip knot to
begin a single chain & you leave a bit of yarn hanging down? If ur
righthanded on a singlechain & after the 1st row of whatever stitch Ur
doing the yarn will be hanging down on Ur left side. But when U chain up
1,2,or3 depending on what stitch Ur doing, after you chain up U turn the
work so that piece of yarn now hangs down on Ur right :)
The chains that are made at the end before turning the work are how it goes
upwards. You're building the height at the end for the next row's stitches.
Single crochet is 1 chain, half-double crochet is 2 chains, double crochet
is 3 chains b/c that's the height of each stitch. After you make those
chains, turn the work. I think that's what you were asking. (E.g., for
right-handed folks, when reaching the left-most position, make the chains,
then turn.)
Yes, it is literally turning the work around. You've probably figured that
out by now, but thought I'd toss that in there. So you do the chain (my
friend calls it 'in the air' since it's not in a stitch), then after you
chain the height for the next stitch, flip the work around. An alternative
is to learn how to crochet ambidextrously so you never have to turn, you
just go back and forth.
Well, I'm totally lost now. I did the turning stitch, and I'm trying to
figure out how to make the next stitch, but my work doesn't look as neat
and tidy as your expert crocheting does. So I can't figure out where to
insert my hook to make the next stitch. I have no clue what to do next.
Thank you for your video - I have been trying to explain the same concept
to a friend over messenger, however I wasn't explaining it as succinctly as
you do, so I have just referred her to this video instead! Thanks for
saying what I was struggling to say :)
I have been doing it wrong and only going through one part of found the
stitch like on the first row. Doh! I made a couple on snoods that seem to
have come out fine but this is why the other patterns I have tried haven't
worked I think
What I'm confused about is how you start forming chains upwards to make
room for he next row, and no video is showing me this!!! One minute you're
making a chain stitch and then bleasjdnmwka. How do you start going up??!
I always have crotched back and forth, because I could never figure out
what turning work around meant. I thought that there was a back and front
to your work and you could not flip your stitches around.
I have watched countless video's trying to get a clear idea of how to turn,
and yours has finally helped me. Thank you! You explain it very clearly,
and its so easy to see. Thanks!
This video has made it possible for me to finally get a stitch down and
finally make my scarf! Thank you so much for the tutorial. You use bigger
string as well so it helped me!
