Hey Shane I would like to do a similar thing. But in my project I am using a 8 relay board which I intend to connect it to my house. I want to use the raspberry Pi as a timer to switch on and off the relays. Can you help me in this. I am new to raspberry Pi. I don't know how to program and run it. I brought a Raspberry Pi model A+ so I just have 1 USB port. How do I program it without my PC. If possible can I have your email ID. It will be easier to discuss

I prefer not to, sorry.TBH, I don't have a lot of experience programming the RPi or working with Relays so far. I'm currently also just beginning with these things.

+Linus Miranda I have no experience with that.Confirm whether Python2 is installed on your RPi, otherwise it'll try to compile/run using Python1.Browse the web for more info. Sites like Stackoverflow can aid you with the programming part

+ThatCoder I tried writing a script using python shell 2. But when I run the script it shows me error. I connected my 8 channel relay board to the RPi but the light indicator on the relay board stayed on all the time. How do I write a script using python 2 and run it. Can you send a video link which shows me how do I do it

I suppose it has, otherwise you can get it with `apt-get install gedit -Y`. Make a project folder and save your scripts in there, then you can run the scripts using the command line

+ThatCoder I have installed Rasbian OS. I suppose Rasbian has gedit pre-installed in it . Can I write my scripts directly in gedit and save it in my RPi.

If you're running an OS that provides you with a graphical interface, you could use a text editor like gedit. If you're using a command line interface, you can use a command line text editor such as nano, pico, vi or vim. You just write your scripts to a file and run from that.

+Linus Miranda Check other youtube vids to see how to connect a Pi to a Relay board. You can program directly on the Pi using SSH. If you want to use all 8 relay switches, you'll need an extra power supply (5V)
