Synology DS212+ Review: How I use my NAS
The Definitive Guide to Backing Up Your Files: //www.cloudbackuping.com/the-definitive-guide-to-backing-up-your-data/ Using a network attached storage ...
CoudStation works really well on the Mac now. I have a DS212j with the
latest CS version installed on both my Synology NAS and my Mac (Mac needs
software installed) I can access it anywhere I have WiFi access, and has
not failed me yet. One thing to note... When I had to update the On-Mac
software it told me I couldn't reuse the folder I had chosen on the NAS So
it basically erased it. I had backed that stuff up so it was not a big
deal, just be careful when updating the on-Mac software.
This is the one thing that SUCKS about NAS, the file menus look like
FUCKING ASS. A hard drive's file system is smooth, sleek, & simple to use,
everything is ONE CLICK away, these fucking NAS systems are 236234632623
clicks away from everything, you can "human error" at any step, an
generally it's not user friendly at all. There is a reason why Apple crap
sells so well, it's "stream-lined", if NAS systems want to sell, they
should start making them uber user friendly.
I have a question.. I want to make a back-up of my files and I wanted to do
this in the cloud folder. However, the files that I want to put in the
cloudstation are about 1 TB. If i put it in the cloudstation, does it also
occupy free capacity on my hard drive on my laptop? (sorry for my bad
English) but basically I'd like to know wheter or not it requires free disk
capacity on my laptop! thanks for your answer
Synology instructions on their site are for the MAC and impossible to
follow for the PC. Also, they have lousy instructions for setting up a
router that is not listed on their database. I've spent 2 days trying to
get basic functions but I can't find any video or manual that gives a clear
step by step guidance on setting up a router manually.
I have a request... How about showing NOTHING but how to use the SIMPLE
stuff that you bypass.. Such as, for a newbie, how to copy My Documents
into the Synology AND how to setup mirroring... Nothing more.. Just that.
No fancy termanology.. Just simple "HOW TO"... I would LOVE it and I'll bet
it will be a HIT!
Great video and thanks for the tutorial. I also have a question about my
Synology DS212j. I just install a second Hard Drive wich now I'm suppos to
have 6TB, but my NAS only shows 3TB. I created a volume when I installed
the second HD, but it only shows 1 volume. What should I do, please help?
Thank you!
I have just bought a ds212j NAS, I am having trouble with the initial
setup, I have the backup running fine but when I go to set the cloud
storage up my server is not found, have you got tutorials from the unboxing
all the way through to having everything running? Thanks
I want to make a similar media center, but i have to ask, why not using
only the apple time capsule ? i've heard you can make it a media center,
file server and also file sync with smb ?!? why use both synology and apple
?
Does it automatically map the drive to your computer (both PC and Mac)? Or
do I need to manually do it on every computer on my local network? ps. I
believe "My Book Live" has this function, so please help.
Thank you for the video! I have a better idea about what it is capable of
now.
P.S. You have a really good English pronunciation for a non-native speaker!
I wish I could be as good at it as you are!
this is another very good tutorial and I am very happy that I finally
bought a DS212+ but I hope, once I have setup everything, I never ever have
to do this again.. :-D Great Video!!
becouse a time capsule is also a router. He just turned of the file transfer
functions of it.also you can only store 3tb on the best time capsule, and
it has no raid
Create a shared folder, open the Synology drive(s) via network and drag the
files you want to be copied to your Synology into the shared folder you've
just created.
Not bad! Your English is extremely good! And that's from someone who is
bilingual EN+DE : ) I doubt that any American would notice that you're
German...
Is it normal that the ethernet port lights at the back do not light up at
all?

hi Lon just wondering is it possible to upgrade the EX4's hardware, eg CPU
etc?
cause i like the OP that's allowing us access worldwide but want more
storage than just a max cap of 4 drives...
thanks in advance :)
+ASYella No nothing is upgradeable on this one unfortunately. Qnap has a drive system with expandable disk arrays (i.e. you can add more disks through an external enclosure)
+ShoresOfHelll I don't believe the WD's support expansion without rebuilding the array. Synology does support it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwMupWK462U
+Eddie - E11World The newer WD's (look for the DL line) that I reviewed along with the higher end Synology NAS drives deliver the full gigabit performance. I have most of them compiled in this playlist: //lon.tv/nas
ok so here goesim in need of a nas drive for a small business such as photography. So which one do you think i should go for??as for the plex on the nas server this will be used to store my pictures and films on. then im going to run the plex server from my macbook for transcoding..so which one do you think i should use for the things listed above???? thank you for getting back to me!
+Marcus Horwood See my Plex 101 video, generally I don't consider NAS devices to be a good platform if you need to transcode your videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1XarhCUL8o
Lon. good video but when you do a RAID which for me is so confusing. if I
did a raid 1 what drives will be mirriored? do you select the drives or is
that the system disk or drive c:? on the EX4 could you just do a Raid 1 and
have 2 drives for that and have two drives set up like the ISCSI or just 2
seperate drives?
+Christopher Baker iSCSI lives inside of the existing RAID structure (it's really just a file). You could set up two RAID 1 arrays on the four drive unit. See this video for more ideas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuq0w7cf80g
+Lon Seidmani just comparedWD My Cloud Diskless 4 bays(empty 380 €)//www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00157409.htmlandSynology DiskStation DS414slim(empty 280 €)//www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00166939.htmlbut i just found (afters hours of research)a demo here//www.wdnasdemo.com/en/ex4/band an app index here//setup.wd2go.com/?mod=faqs&device=mcp2&faq=thirdPartyand, as, a "future webradio hoster",icecast features looks just amasing, because others nas just allow, for some obscure piracy reasons, to brodcast to "friends" with some useless appsnow i just need to know fi will be able to use a vpn like openvpn because i will not broadcast anything with 3 mega ^^see you ^^
I'm curious how you would feel about this case: Person 1 buys a Sword from
seller. Sword is non-transferable. (Lots of time passes) Person 1 has set
up a new account and wishes to use sword on new account. Seller is no
longer on Second Life, which you learned through contact attempts. Would it
be wrong therefore, to use a program to copy the sword so you can transfer
it ONLY and NOT resell the item? Or would it still be 'shame on you" for
using it?
Whether it's 'legal' or not has no bearing on the fact that it's
intellectual copyright infringement. This is just one more reason for
builders like myself to stop building things or at the very least be sure
NOT to make modifiable items-which in some cases would make an item
unsellable. Shame on anyone who would use such a thing. In my opinion, it's
still stealing.
I think I have already seen one of these being used , or it was something
extremly similar, I organised bulk reporting of the abuse to LL and was
happy to see the avatar banned within a few minuites.

Error 0x80070091: The Directory is Not Empty Fix
//www.fixpczone.com Error 0x80070091 is easy to fix with registry cleaner. If you scan your computer it will detect all the errors in your registry and safely ...
actually there is another easiest way which I've tried myself &
successfully retrieved my files :
1. Go to your C or D drive which got errors
2. Right click 'Properties'
3. 'Tools'
4. 'Error checking' - click 'check now' & let it run, windows will help you
to fix the error files :))
Hey Rachel! Thanks for this suggestion! This works and is a better approach rather than downloading another utility for addressing.Windows has it's own error check utility, so it should be used first. Thanks again. The approach worked great and quick. I recovered the entire 4 GB folder contents on my 1 TB External HDD.
