No, you study the science of human movement, that does not make you a specialist in those movements yourself. It's lliterally impossible for anyone to be a specialist in the braod spectrum of movement.
+Abhishek would you tell someone, wow- your degree makes you a lawyer, doctor, teacher etc.... yes, people go to school to study a specialty then spend years applying that knowledge to gain additional experience and knowledge, thus specializing in that topic. that's what a Kinesiologist is...human movement science. I specialize in human movement
Thanks +MelodicWarrior. There will be much more in the near future.
Ido Portal's secret weapons of success
Ido Portal's secret weapons of success Cleansing guide / eating plan for overcoming dermatitis and other gut related issues: ----------------------------------------...
I think it's great you can see passed a disagreement on diet and still
appreciate the wisdom of his approach to movement. I think the part about
obsession and passion is actually about taking part in a great many things,
and striving to be the best at one thing. The richness in life is
experience of opening doors, not confinement to being the master of your
domain.
+ronit Gandhi yep i do from time to time but not in a planned matter. i just dont eat much in the early mornings or late at night, listen to my body and when its hungry and time to eat I just eat. over the course of a week it most likely would look a bit like i am IFing
+RumpleForeskin I completely agree with where you are coming from regarding his out look of food and nutrition. Funny though I watched an interview with him recently and he is def. understanding that his diet is not the best for long term health and he even joked about becoming vegan in the future. with that said his genius abilities as a mover and philosopher can be used for us vegans and health as well. Putting his weapons of success in a plant based eating context makes great sense and is very helpful!! also judging by your name and comments you do spend a lot of time thinking about your dick...
yeah, I saw a video of him saying that he'll never train anyone who doesn't eat meat. I was quite shocked. and his reasoning...
Dear Ido Portal
Genuinely grateful for all the Ido does apart from his defense of animal cruelty and outspokenness against a community of people just trying to make a kinder ...
I have to disagree with you on the vegan mindset. I´m vegetarian and going
full vegan when I move from my parents. But I didn't go vegetarian and I´m
not going vegan because of the animals, I do it because it´s better for the
enviroment.
If you don't want animals slaughtered, how do you deal with an animal
that's about to kill it's prey in front of your eyes? Sayyyy, a frog is
about to attack an insect? And also, why do you think animals consume each
other in the first place? It seems you find nature itself to be immoral.
this guy trying to sell worm water, or wet water hahahha..wtf, moving
since, since of moving, wtf?? when did movement become a training?? r u
shit me, if u can't move in my day, u were just called a duck n retard and
couldn't play sports u just would not be playing any sports becose u r
fucking not athletic. so I guess u got to teach retards athletisisam. holy
shit. wow. what a stupidity. I remember backnin a day people that were not
athletic just took up boxing. but I am an athletic fighter so I don't get
it. to me this shit don't make sense.
+Shone Zverka This video threatened your security , you are afraid that there's something out there that you didn't explore that goes against your past beliefs, so u rather stay in your comfort zone and belittle others opinions to avoid exploring it. Your defensive mechanism excuse : Im athletic naturally so i dont need variety in movements.
So if traditional weightlifting is limiting, and irrelevant to the human
body, how the hell is prancing around and balancing sticks on your feet any
different?
These workout and new wave crap is for the guys who suck at traditional
workouts and cop out by wanting to try something "different".
These are workouts for active rest days, not primary workouts.
He seems dogmatic and pretentious. He's opposed to specialization but he
hasn't demonstrated that pursuing all types of movement is objectively
superior. It's all abit juvenile; 'waah why don't you like what I like?'.
+SavingPrivateBob I wasn't really looking for an audience, it's just cathartic to express yourself after watching something you disagree with. I suppose I should've left my insult to the end like you did, far wiser.
+Chaz Garrett If you resort to name-calling, you're probably not a wise person, intelligent or not. Not gonna bother reading the rest of your comment now, neither will anyone...good luck. :)
+SavingPrivateBob If you sincerely think that last sentence was encouraging rather than patronising then you're a moron. I don't think you read what I wrote. I never wrote that he thinks 'the techniques of a single dogma are inferior to another', I wrote that he's 'opposed to specialization'. Also, you're using the word 'dogma' in a pretty perverse way, people who lift weights 5 times a week rarely make the claim that doing is the best way to improve as a 'mover',or all rounder. Different sports and 'movement practices', as you like, aren't dogmas, they don't make any claims. The only one making claims is Ido. They choose to lift weights 5 times a week at the exclusion of everything else because they're preference is to become really good at strength rather than mediocre at gymnastics, dancing, strength, speed etc. Also, where did you get the idea that 'a guy who goes to the gym five times a week and lifts weights...ends up confined, depressed and lost'? Honestly, what the fuck? I know lots of people who happily lift weights 5 times a week, just as I know lots of people who happily play rugby 5 times a week, or play tennis 5 times a week. To repeat, other people like different things to you, if you want to claim that what you do is objectively superior you'll have to substantiate that claim.
+Chaz Garrett Nope, you misunderstand his message. He simply asks us to move, but unlimited to a single dogma. It's not that the techniques of a single dogma are inferior to another, but that principles are shared through all forms of movement (which Ido admits is simply a dogmatic umbrella). It's like a guy who goes to the gym five times a week and lifts weights. Sure, he's better than the couch potato, but he's limiting himself to a linear form of movement and that might not exactly be optimal for what his body is asking for, and he ends up confined, depressed and lost. Try to dig deeper before criticising, you might just do yourself a favour.
+Chaz Garrett Maybe this rigid philosophy is left for his close students/clients. i believe his general message is just to be more physically active and listen to our bodies's needs. sure coaches help people participate in sports but few people use their bodies when not palying a sport/doing labor/going to the gym, then complain bout aching backs and swallow pills haha. What i took from this interview is to "respect one's body", without necessarily being a "fitness guy". Stretching, walking, biking, playing with your kids/pets, hanging from trees, swimming, playing sports, whatever as long as you listen to your body. just these basic stuff can help us be healthier and happier.
+onceuponthecross1 No doubt it does but all sport coaches promote movement and more physicality. I think some people would rather get really good at one thing (e.g become a really good rugby player) than dabble in gymnastics, dance, weightlifting etc. like Ido. If Ido's message was that he thinks what he practices is the best for your health or the most fun that would be fine but he has to substantiate that claim. As it is he just assumes that it's self-evident that more variety is better and judges people who don't act on the same belief. There's no room for preference within his self-proclaimed 'philosophy'.
+Chaz Garrett Well i guess he promotes movement and more physicality in general. Our world, mostly composed of sickly walking heads surely needs more of that, just for the health benefits if nothing else.
+That T-shirt Guy You already move. Just explore new forms and devote more time to them. You will feel the benefits very fast. Pull the strings and react to the changes.
+London Real yeas man, really artistic preview... and the interview itself is badass! everyone should sign up for free to get to watch amazing content like this. you're rockin it and inspiring the rest of us online entrepreneurs!
not a fan of this one... it seems as if he has combined the basic
techniques of capoeira, with the autistic mindset of crossfit. just because
he can move in some amazing ways, does not mean he is a prophet with all
the answers to health and physiology.
+onceuponthecross1 If you look at the best Trickers and bboys in the world they do the same training as Ido Portal just way more advanced. It's kinda weird how everyone's jumped on the bandwagon. I def can see though how people can become amazed by Ido with out a background in movement.
+Julian Burns-Brenssell but ido can flip, trick, box, dance, do gymnastics, olympic lifting, yoga/contortions, acrobatics, sprinting etc. he dabbles at everything without being a master, wich is a much healthier approach.
Yeah i only just listened to it haha totally was judgmental and i take what i say back. It does suck though that people who are far superior in movement don't get the recognition though. Mainly because the high level tricks guthrie and simonster do, normal people can't comprehend how hard it is, so basic skills look more impressive as it's easier for them to understand.
+Dennis V Back from watchin Guthrie. That argument of Julian is a lame one if there ever was one. Ido does that only that Guthrie does it faster and maybe one more kick in the air or something
+Dennis V Haha then look up Simonster he tricks, bboys and can do far better handstands and planche work than Ido. Ido's turned movement into a cult and people are blindly following him.
+Julian Burns-Brenssell obviously he cant do it like he can. but he can. do you think ido is a trickster or something? i mean like, i very much doubt guthrie can do a planche or one arm handstand. or do any decent ringwork
+Julian Burns-Brenssell dont talk out of your ass. look up his older videos on his channel. there's enough stuff of him stringing kicks and flips together.
Im interested does anybody know what kind of education/degree Ido has? What
did he study to become so proficient at what he does? Did he even go to
universiry? I went to medical school but dropped out because i didnt feel
like it was the thing i was meant to do. I see Ido as an Idol/Menthor if u
say, so i would appreciate if anyone could answer me.
+Venko Vishnin To my knowledge he doesn't have any degree, he started traveling around 18 or maybe even earlier and learned from some of the best of various disciplines, gymnastics, yoga, dance, martial arts, strength coaches, physical therapists etc. I think that's better than a degree :)
What does this strength transfer over to? Someone who trains only parkour
would be better at parkour. A rock climber who can not do these basics can
still climb better. I have worked for years as a furniture mover and I
guarantee I can lift a piano equally as well as anyone who can do these
'basics'.
So what's the point of training for these movements, if not to look cool as
a performance artist? It's just circus acrobatics. Not transferable to
anything better than just training in the modality one would 'transfer'
into...
With balance? I can hold handstand for more than 2 minutes against a wall. So for me, improving free handstanding balance is the key. It feels really weird to hold a handstand with straightened lower back, not to mention that my shoulders lack of mobility.
+Gábor Zámborszky Beware; he talks about practicing hollow body with a stragiht line - not the usual curve we actually see in most hollows - when I begun to practice it like it; my handstands improved a lot .
+Gábor Zámborszky Developing a full hollow body will greatly benefit you in your handstand endeavors. Necessary, no. The major benefit is the development of postural strength, which carries over to the handstand.
Show me a man taller than 185 cm, who can do these tricks, and I'll show
you a man 160 cm tall who can do height jump more than 230 cm.

You wrote some time ago that grip strength and scapular strength are
equally important. I can see that you take care of your grip strength but
what about your scaps? Do you use the bungee cord? I thought that a
Deuserband would be of good use among these equipments. :) How come you do
not use it anymore?
@norbeex3 @norbeex3 Scap strength and control is... pretty much all the
upper body strength work that I do - SASS, BA and even Equilibre. I've
written a lot about it - time to educate yourself through reading my wall
posts and notes at my FB page.
I love what you said about heavy bag training. How about a quick heavy bag
video showing us what you do? I get sick of just punching mine a hundred
times each arm. A few drills might help.
Ido, did you go with the 8ft Competition Straps from Rouge Fitness? The
standard cam buckle straps look fairly weak compared to the carabiner ring
straps. Thanks Ido.
//garagewarrior.com/ido-portal/ Interview With Ido Portal Part 1. In this free video interview Tyler Bramlett from //www.garagewarrior.com talks to ...
i like ido portal's philosophy but not his principles of movement. as a
heavyweight fighter, i'm not going to go out of my way to try to move like
a small monkey or cat. of course, movement (no matter the practitioner's
size) can be improved upon. for me, the only direction that my combative
practice can go is refined basics. becoming more supple combined with
constant practice of the same exact movements will create an advanced basic
movement and i feel that's all a fighter truly needs, especially weighing
240 pounds (109 kg) or more. the reason i say 240 pounds is because that's
when a fighter reaches a "magic number". 100% ido portal is inspiring and
just watching a bunch of videos since last night, i'm moved. i already
practiced squatting as he showed. it felt amazing and i loved it. with that
said, i'm becoming the severe bloody tiger rather than the graceful
fighting monkey. when i'm practicing, i realize that every movement i make
is basically in the name of fear. i'm addicted to fear and when i fight, i
need to be consumed by that same fear. there's no more room for emotion,
anger, hatred... it's all gone. your gut takes over. most people are
terrified even to admit fear. talk about fear to the layman and notice his
expression. everyone feels fear and to say that you don't, you're either
lying, crazy or dumb for lack of better terms. the most dangerous men
control the fear and understand it. a dangerous fighter will accept fear
and greet it like a friend.
