My Physio Session + Game Plan for a Proper Recovery
UPDATE - AUG 8, 2015, after this video: I'm now seeing a new Chiropractic Dr. that specializes in athletes, and uses more effective hands-on techniques.
Hope you heal quickly! I can relate to back pain and to a lifetime of
training and the injuries we unfortunately face! I grew up with scoliosis
but keeping myself in shape really helps with that. I've had pretty bad
anterior pelvic tilt too, half my spine was a mess and as the rest
compensates everything else gets thrown out!
Weight training is one of the best healers for my postural problems. I
started squatting with the barbell again last week and I can already feel
my back improving. I do think it's also important to get checked up now and
again from a physician who has experience with athletes.
I've had cracked ribs, torn tendons, dislocated shoulder, broken wrist,
cracked skull, broken cheek, tooth knocked back, dislocated knee, plenty of
hand and foot injuries. Been right through the mill!
+Mixed Martial Help Ⓥ Thank you! Ya, ongoing maintenance is def key when you're an athlete, esp. in contact sports! You've had a whole wack of injuries too I see lol... it's def the worse part about being an athlete :P
I have severe scoliosis and my Chiropractor has really helped me. Lifting
weights and doing both Yoga and Pilates has also played a role in building
strength in my back and neck. For years I only ran and it was not helping,
I became more stiff and inflexible. It's amazing how all of these things
plus a healthy vegan lifestyle helps us recover faster!
+Sarah Burns Warman Glad to hear your chiro apts helped! I'm definitely adding some yoga into my stretching routine and home phyio too! :) So true... being vegan has def helped my body heal better and feel healthier :)
Hello just saw you on bite size vegan your great love your vids! About the
abs I build some man abs seriously, I have a nice covering of fat over
them, but honestly if I do them to much I have reverse pot belly ha ha.You
can see them through my shirt if I lose 10 pounds. I am losing weight
slowly on the high carb diet after years of dragging my ass to the gym with
no results because I was starving/paleo you name It I did it so it has been
hard for me to let myself weigh what I do while I recover.I love weights !
do my cardio now if only the rest would kick in :)
+free meow Thanks so much!! :) xo That's great that you've ditch the fads to a healthy, plant based whole foods lifestyle! It may take your body a while to really take to your new, healthier habits. It will pay off in the long run! Keep it up and your body will thank you!
All the best for your recovery! I had to do physio for a back injury
before. It was a journey but I really have done a lot of strength training
to keep my back strong since then.
+Vegas Fruity Thank you for the support! :) Glad to hear you recovered from your back injury! Ya, they already have me doing strength exercises to help in the recovery, and moving forward after recovery. It's definitely going to be an important thing I'll need to do regularly!
Ended up with a nasty overuse injury in my hip by the end of cross country
last year. A lot of frustration, cross training, rehab, and then work once
able to train again. Residual scar tissue had been an issue until I started
eating whole foods plant based. Training hard again now making sure to
strengthen and eat kind :D Honestly I'm grateful for the injury though
because it showed me what's most important in life! Best of luck with your
injuries and journey through rehab, it's all for a good purpose!
+Isaac Jordan Thank you!! :) Hip injuries are tough, i've had some myself. So glad to hear that you recovered and are gaining strength, that's awesome!
Sorry to hear about your injuries! But it sounds like you've got a pretty
solid plan for getting back on track :) I actually have an injury right now
as well. It's my left knee. I've been seeing a chiropractor as well, and
it's getting better and better everyday. I wish you a speedy recovery!
+Haylie Wentvegan Thank you! :) It's going well so far, so feeling good about recovery. Ouch, knee injuries suck so bad :/ I'm glad to hear that your treatments are improving it!!
Oh, wow! So sorry about your injury. It's good that you're able to have
therapy to straighten things out. That is one thing that always scares me
about exercise/sports. I've recently eased up on running because the impact
is effecting my right leg a little too much. I broke it when I was a kid
and it's always given me problems since then. I've found other things to
get into which helps, like Pilates and yoga. I still love running though so
I go a few times a week just for a light jog to get it out of my system.
Hope your recovery goes well!!
+PunkGoneVegan Thanks for the kind words! :) I agree, yoga is great! I try to do some at home, when doing my own stretching routines. I'm glad you are still able to get out and enjoy jogging after your broken leg! Some injuries def cause long term issues or flare ups. I've found since going vegan tho, I don't have as much trouble with inflammation and have recovered from certain injuries faster :)
