Great lantern restoration video. I'm also a avid lantern collector and plan
on restoring a couple of them. I prefer the pitina on mine but do make
exceptions. Subscribing.

totally ruined it for me......I missed a lot because of that.
Restoration of Dietz Little Wizard lantern - Part 1
A friend gave me this 1945 Dietz Little Wizard lantern and I am attempting my first restoration. This video is Part 1 -- the "soda ash" method for removing rust.
Hi Hammer, I just finished my first electrolysis attempt on a Dietz No. 2 D
lite cold blast lantern. I used the same recipe as yours. Made my own soda
ash from sodium bicarbonate. (Use the desired qty, bake in a 200F oven for
1 hr.) Instead of the rebar I used a piece of mild steel. Got rid of the
rust but the tinned metal came out with some tarnish that won't come off
with 0000. Rebar might have been better. How did yours come out? Looking
foward to your Part2. Thanks. Norm
I am about to restore a Little Wizard myself using this same method. I too
got the instructions from lanternnet.com, and they are a great site to use
for information, and ordering any lantern or lantern accessory. Also, if
you have leaks in the fount, POR-15 fuel tank sealer is a great product to
use. Thanks for the video, and good luck with the restoration!
