Hillary always had more power and means to be able to influence things around the world. Bernie has not been in the same position. So he may have done even more than her given the same shoes.

Imagine a gay youth who feels isolated and unloved and hopeless hearing Hillary Clinton (an ostensibly liberal politician) making an impassioned speech against gay marriage. That youth is already feeling terrible. As a person who suffers from depression, I can tell you that a thing like that can push you over the edge if you're already suffering. Then imagine that Bernie Sanders is your mayor and he declares gay pride day an official holiday in your city and issues a statement promoting the acceptance of all lifestyles. (which he did in the 80s) That would pick me up. THat would tell me that someone is standing with me. For all you know, Bernie has saved a life or two with his statements, or at least brightened them. For all you know, Hillary's betrayals of gay people over the years have pushed them further towards the edge. Human rights and standing up for them matter very deeply. And they matter most when very few other people are willing to take that stand. #FeelTheBern

I campaigned for Bill Clinton as a young person. Only years later did I understand some of the darker legacy including NAFTA, canceling Glass-Steagall, welfare "reform" and getting "tough" on crime. Not to mention the whole corporate democrat philosophy that now we are trying to get up from under with Bernie. Bernie Sanders is the real democrat in the race.
