Penn Manor: The power of open in education
Charlie Reisinger, IT director for the Penn Manor school district, helped bring an open educational model and a 1:1 laptop program to Penn Manor High School.
To bad most schools only care about money and not real education anymore.
More and more schools are removing history and science just so students can
do slightly better. We are moving towards a future where ever one will need
PC skills to survive in the modern world and yet many of them do not even
know what a computer is, let alone how they work. This is not made easier
when Schools are being paid to enslave their students to Microsoft and
Adobe Software. I have to agrea With Rich Stallman. If you can't not see
the source code, then you have to trust the developer. Microsoft just
proved they don't care about the consumer with Windows 10 the most insecure
OS filled With spyware and addware that most people don't want or need.
Even with Windows 7 the NSA could easily take student reconds or personal
files when ever they wanted thanks to the Patiet Act! Then there is adobe
who does not maintain their flash program and lets the crackers enough time
to break it when ever they make a small patch. These are the people that
most schools trust their data to. Yet, educational establishments get get
off the closed source software that they have gotten hooked to. There is no
difrence between drugs and software made by microsoft. They both hurt
people and they both are addictive. There should be no place for Microsoft
in education or software!
Oh... My God.... I couldn't help but lose a little bit of composure
with this. If I had a program like this when I was going through high
school, it would've..... hell... I don't know.... The sky is the limit. I
want to commend everyone on a job well done, and every school in the
universe should strive to do exactly what it is you are doing.
Yay for more +OpenSource in Education! Note that the school featured here
are running +Ubuntu in fact, on these PCs. See Unity at 3:07 and 4:35.
