Terribly over priced with not enough range. To get the extra range you
loose the any capacity to carry stuff. Energy density needs to quadruple
and price cut at least in 1/2 if not more. While extolling how fast these
things are, your range will drop from a cliff if you beat on any of these
things. What good are these to a police dept with 100-200 mile range? If
you fast charge it, kiss the battery life good bye. Expect 1/2 the battery
life by fast charging. Fast charging is REALLY hard on the battery. If it
normally lasts 5 years, expect it to be cut by maybe 1/2, especially if you
try fast charging it on every cycle.
I have a Zero 2011 S and it has been in the shop or at Zero themselves more
than I have actually got to ride it. Terrible service! I would have
thought if my bike went back to the manufacturer for service that they
would have the know how to fix the problem. Nope. I would never suggest
to anyone to get a Zero!
+Dennis3Run Mine is still taking up space in the garage, not working. A manufacturer should never release a product that they cannot fix. Poor planning and engineering.
+Your Fast Life! The old 2011 bikes got problems but the 2012 to 2014 Zero models ar working fine. My 2012 Zero DS has no problems at all after more than 8000 km.
+Bryan Wagner Good to know. I actually had one do that but it was a custom bike. I'll need to let my subs know about this. I'm not super suprised though. It's a risk you take with new products...however...how they handle it is another story. Even that is complicated. How much money do you make on a new product like this with little acceptance? So can you afford to deliver service like Honda/Yamaha? Probably not.
+Your Fast Life! From what I researched on other threads, yes other people have the same problem. Unfortunately, throwing almost every new part at the problem did not fix the issue on my bike. The issue was the bike just shut off while riding, no throttle at all. Dangerous! The controller, MBB, and throttle were all replaced with no luck. Actually, the first time I got the bike back and they said they had it fixed during my first trip to work the motor blew up! That was a fun 3 mile walk home.
That is horrible but good to know. I was thinking of buying a Zero. I'll now have to do some research before I do. Not like I could take this to any old mechanic for repairs. Kinda stuck with the factory.
