Listen to John Jarratt telling you how he loves his fans and loves making entertainment, but Piracy Cancer is killing the biz. Help stop Piracy Cancer!
There is an opposing argument. Piracy could double or even triple the
distribution of the media by allowing those who are not inclined to
purchase prior to viewing (to avoid the possibility of disappointment) to
view the entertainment first, leading to greater sales potential in the
future. While it also obviously damages immediate sales, the greater
distribution may in fact negate this in the long term. It also helps to
spread media which is not easily available to purchase in stores
(especially across Rupert Murdoch's borders). More obscure films will
almost certainly reach a larger audience. Furthermore, piracy can function
as a quality control mechanism, meaning that better content will be more
widely circulated leading to greater sales (of DVDs and merchandise). This
is an incentive for producers to create better and better content. On top
of the potential economic benefits of piracy, there are benefits to the
fame of the actors, directors, producers and crews involved. Again, the
wider circulation of the media will benefit everybody.
John is spot on becuase if he doesn't get paid then there will be no
movies, drama series etc. It makes perfect sense and logic that no actor or
actress would be willing to work for nothing as I wouldn't as well. Good on
ya Johno
I recently did a video on this and while I'm unhappy that John is still
using the term Piracy Cancer, I'm glad he's acknowledging that pirates can
be the solution. Check out my videos for more information.
I will admit, i download music, or, listen to it from Youtube. But, if i
like it, i will go out and buy a copy on CD or LP. If i dont like it or
dont listen to it much, then i will delete it from my PC
