I feel the same, I was a young girl when I met my 18 years old boyfriend
who became my husband of 50 years, then he died and I would sell my soul to
go back to the night we met and do it all over again. All I do now is sit
and cry for what I have lost.
+JanetLeeuwerik That is how the song is written. The English-language lyrics, written by Herbert Kretzmer, tell of a man reflecting on his life. He recounts how he had wasted his youth on self-centered pursuits, and that, now that he is older, he will not be able to do all that he had planned; this implies that he may be close to his impending death. The original music was written by Charles Aznavour and released in 1964, with the original name of "Hier Encore" which translates to Only Yesterday.
Wow what a great lyrics goose bumps run over my body! Dusty Springfield
barefooted her image, and her great voice...I still love her! Yesterday
when I was young!
+Taco Veldstra you should listen to the original song Charles Aznavour , i love this song , it moves me , this song should be heard in the spring i think ,,,, oh i think it was spring when i first time heard it lol ,, it is so beautiful
+Jeff Cox Yep stole the vocal melody from this song and the instrumentals from Ahmet Kaya... Haha no need for Missy Gallant to do a mashup of two songs, cuz she already did!
+Jeff Cox It took me a week to figure out what song A Million Years Ago reminded me of....that's why I'm listening to this now.... I wonder if any one can do a mash -up between the two songs......
+Jeff Cox I was listening to Adele's new album and told my wife it sounds a lot like "yesterday when I was young" and looks like i'm not alone....wonder if there will be a lawsuit?
I am 77 When I was I5 I would think I have time ,When I was 30 I thought
there is still a lot of time left, and 40 , 50 and so on now at 77 time is
very short I tried to do all I could with what I had but there was never
enough time. Now it does'nt matter.
+Ken Bennett I am 54 and I don't think it has gone by very fast. I can remember all the places I have lived, the people I have known, and the things I have done. When I cannot, then and only then, I will wonder how it went by so fast. The best advice I can think of is don't take wooden nickels.
+John BatsonWe all have our choices. Yours is a great song also. The song by Roy Clark is totally telling of how I have lived my life and I'm sorry for doing so. A lot of precious love is what I wasted. Take care.
+An Ombre RoseThanks for your post. I have and always will turn it over to him. My wrongs are my past now. It's funny, I learned so much of who I was form the words of this song. Take care.
aaww. My mum had a lifelong crush on Monsieur A.. she danced with him once
at 'talk of the town' in london in the 60's... she hasnt forgotten how he
made her feel, or how perfectly short he was..! she never quite made 5'2"
herself..when i think of them dancing together.. my mother so young,, with
this gorgeous man...this song is kind of perfect...
+Davis Jen - bittersweet... but yes.. bless her, im glad she still has memories she can enjoy and im suitably impressed..what a man... i wish i could dance with charles aznavour - he's LOVELY. ooh. i need to go have a lie down now.
There are so many songs in me that won't be sung,
I feel the bitter taste of tears upon my tongue.
The time has come for me to pay for yesterday
When I was young... Young... Young...
@valmart49 The gentleman doing the duet with Elton John is Charles
Aznavour, and aside from being named the greatest entertainer of the
Century, by Time, he just happened to have wrote this particular song. You
may well know a few of his other songs, "She" as performed by Elvis
Costello, in the movie "Notting Hill". He was also an international actor,
and a diplomat....packed a mighty big punch for such a 'little" man, only
5'3"..look him up, you will like him.
Elton surprises me with this one and I don't know the gentleman doing the
duet with him, but while Roy Clark owns this song like no one else, I would
like to hear Elton do this as a solo. I could be the flip side of Don't let
the Sun Go Down on Me"
Le monde actuel, secoué par des conflits absurdes, a un besoin inconscient
de se sentir protégé. Ces deux voix, arrivées à maturité, répondent
jsutement à cet urgent besoin de réconfort. Et si après eux c'était le
chaos ?
@valmart49 "the gentleman" is Charles Aznavour, one of the greatest singers
of all times. I'd recommend listening his other songs. Try "She" or "La
Boheme" for start. You'll enjoy.
+Zeds Dead Baby If I deleted any comments, i didn't mean to. But I have a question - what do you mean by original version? Roy Clark is the original singer.
I used to t think that youth was wasted on the young, but now I see that we
become jaded as the years go by. Like old dogs, we get less and less
excited about life, and more filled with sadness as our regrets pile up. If
we were given youth at an advanced age, I doubt most people would take
advantage of it.
+Hans Zarkov Become a new creature in Christ. I'm 65 and He has filled my old tired heart with all sorts of joy. Joy that I can appreciate even more because of my age. Remember ....there's more room in a broken heart.
+Hans Zarkov Maybe besides the regrets there are some proud experiences?? As long as we are alive it is not too late. let us look forward... not back.... if we can.
+rgb3008inI'm sorry for your loss. Someone once told me that a famous verse in the Bible about making it to the finish line wasn't really about the struggle to spread the Gospel, but just the struggle to make it through this life. I'm not sure if that is true, but I wouldn't doubt it.
+Hans Zarkov You have said everything that I feel myself. Just a few months ago I lost my grandson and I have pretty much given up on life. I am just bidding my time here on earth until GOD takes me.
" and every conversation I can now recall, concerns itself with me, and
nothing else at all"..
I wish I could go back and tell my younger self some things, . . . but he
probably wouldn't listen.
+Dajuro i hear you. Loud and clear. Touched my heart. i am there too
ANDY WILLIAMS - YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS YOUNG
"...the taste of life was sweet...". Lyrics: Yesterday when I was young The taste of life was sweet as rain upon my tongue I teased at life as if it were a foolish game ...
tank you Andy 4 your awesome Music......i´m 34.....and the first Music i´ve
listen was the Music of my father.....i still love this Kind of
Music.....no one today create Music like this....it´s a shame.....
+Stargazar Me too, Stargazar. And because of my dad’s influence I have a wide interest in music. Maybe the problem is that we have run out of tunes to write and structures have become so complex, tune is less relevant.Namaste and care, mhikl
