Lakers actually did it right this time. Getting one of those bigs (Okafor, Porzingis) with their No. 2 pick would've been very tempting, but they usually wait on those guys the first few years in the league to see whether or not they hold up physically before pursuing them via trade or free agency. Besides, Russell's the only player in that draft who I truly feel has the potential to lead the Lakers into the future after Kobe calls it a career after this season. His IQ and skillset ALONE will grant him the ability to outlast most of the other top draft picks in the NBA, especially the more athletic types.

No that's not the reason at all he was booed, because drafting European/global players is extremely risky. Porzingis kinda popped up outta nowhere and the Knicks took a huge chance, the fans booed cus there were other great players still avaliable Emmanuel mudiay, Stanley Johnson, justice Winslow that were proven to be good from the college level (except for mudiay) and they were booing especially cus euro competition is not as good as American or even Canadian. So don't even bring race into it cus tons of black players get booed too. And they were also booing cus they needed a guard a little more than a big man
