1st: Great video! Thank you for taking the time/effort to show us! 2nd: I'm
working on a Toshiba 65" HD rear projection TV and the picture is all
wavy/squiggly. It seems to get a little better after it warms up but not
that much. I was told it's probably the hyper module. Then I looked into it
and was told that I could save quite a bit by just replacing the tiny
little capacitors on the hyper module (about 10 of them). What do you
think? Any help would be REALLY appreciated! Thank you again!
60pp9202/17f is my model number you can check on the back yours. the
convergence amp i bought was STK392-120. if yours is the philips though i
would check all the resistors first before you invest in the new
convergence amp. mine you didn't even need to know how to read a resistor
you could just tell it was burned out. if you have any grey resistors and
you can't make out what color the bands are then there's your culprit. I
didn't even need new convergence amps itwasjusttwolittle resistors
okay i need somehelp on this, I was going down my street today and saw a
very good looking 55" rear projector like this the lady said i could just
have it cause it wouldnt sell. she was getting rid of it because she got a
new flat screen so i get it loaded up on the car and i was like so you just
got a new tv and she continued to say that it had gotten rained on the day
before. It works but it has green blue and red colors like 3D not aligned.
if i do this should it fix it?
What was my point?! Read my comment . . . if you are going to take the time
to make an instructional video, you have to assume that the audiance is not
as knowledable as you. Give detail, more than necessary to eliminate the
questions that cannot be asked because of the medium. The next time you
want to jump into a comment, make your comments about what was said, not
about what you think or assume the facts are about the commentor and/or
his/her knowledge level.
Dude. That is the most stank-ass soldering iron ever. It's a wonder you
didn't lift every trace connected to the STK. Look for a Hakko temperature
controlled station (Weller stuff is low-end crap). They can be had for less
than $75. Also, an Edsyn solder sucker is much easier to use than the wick.
These make soldering much easier. Another thing, don't go too heavy on the
thermal grease. Too much acts as an insulator rather than a conductor.
i believe i have the exact model...(51pp9303h/17) in fact the guts look
exactly the same but im having trouble just getting half of the board out
like you did could i just pull the whole thing out??? and when you bond the
ic chip to the amp thingy should i do that before i solder it to hold it in
place? ive never even soldered more than a little light stick but its all
the same right...any more pointers would be great thnx
@NickBeat88 that sounds more like a convergence alignment issue if the
colors are strait in the middle then you just need to go to your menu and
align all the convergence menus. when you get into it it'll be a bunch of
plus signs the outside edge ones will be separated try going thru each one
and lining those up first. if you don't want to try to fix it geek squad
will probably rape you for 300 dollars to fix it.
@denama1234 yes the resistors play a part. check the resistors that are
bigger and standing a half inch off of the board. volt tester should be on
ohms and depending on the size of the resistor 10 ohms, 100 ohms 1 k ohms
ect... if you don't know how to read them try all the settings and make
sure the same color resistors are reading the same. again look for greyed
ones because those will be your burned out ones
I installed new STKs replaced the old ones after noticing that my tv had
doubling images with the flash focus not working at all. After installation
only the left side STK is working as it warms up a little bit when the tv
is turned on. the right side STK remained cold .. the picture had improved
but not 100% theres still doubling on the images. what should i do
next..pls anyone?..not really an electrician.
I realize that this is an amature video site, but the assumption should be
made that the viewer is not at all familiar with the subject. Generalizing
over parts and locations leaves this video lacking. Creating this video can
easily be done by one person and a tripod and by videoing the locations of
interest on the board and pointing while videoing. Then do the voice over
explaining what is being done.
@informationkss Sounds like one's bad or not soldered right. I've installed
bad ones that light the resistors on fire it can happen. Check all your
solder joints, make sure none of the legs are connected and you don't have
cold solder joints. Otherwise see about returning the one that doesn't get
warm, it should be a little warm or they wouldn't attach it to a heat sink.
@kermit368 There are a bunch of screws and clips you have to remove before
you can get it out once you're sure you have all the screws out look for
the clips and pull the board out as you get the clips to release. It
doesn't matter which you do first, if you put the thermal paste on first
though it should hold itself in place while you solder.
philips TV SUCKS!!!! i'm i tv repairman i know trust me they have bad fuild
that needs to be changed out becuse the Pic get burry like looking at a
fogy pic you got to change the Glycol coolent in the tubs they turn yellow
over time Philips used a diffent kind of oil that year and the fluid needs
to be changed if you have a gostly pic
Hello my tv went out just like yours did. great video of what to do i dont
know anything about tvs at all. One problem i have though. I did everything
you did on here but now when i added the new parts and put it all back
together i get no picture at all now, so can anyone tell me maybe what I
did wrong or anything else i can do???
You to,whats your purpose for saying his soldering iron is bad..Anyways
thanks for the advice about the solder sucker(i have one)its alot less
annoying than wick. Also, most people dont realize to much thermal paste does
act as a insulator[I.E. Putting a new processor in laptop, heat sync on
xobx...etc.]Good tip as well.
Should I test the resistors first before replacing the 2 boards? Or do bad
resistors always mean a bad board? Also, can you tell which board to
replace based on which color is out of convergence on the TV? Thanks for
the videos. I have an old school 60 inch Philips from around 2001 that I
would like to try repairing.
My sony KP-53V45 (kp-53v75 on website?) turns on w/ sound but picture
flickers off and on w/o disturbing the sound. If I put it on a/v black
screen its fine even if I open menu. No remotes will allow me to ajust menu
options. just up and down. it wont let me select. Anyone have any idea
whats wrong w/ my tv??? :D
Hiya and thanks for this video. My Sony Bravia Rear proj has a thick
horizontal red line across the top of the screen and a feint, thick blue
stripe across the bottom. There is also image ghosting. I just want to
confirm that this is a convergence issue before following your tutorial
Thanks in advance
True, but Test took time out of hisday to post this video,i wonder about
people who think they are so much better than / or have more knowledge on a
subject than someone else, they can give their opinons on how someone should
make a video.Like really...what was your point in adding that comment?
Your set has a convergence problem which is very common on the older
projection TV sets. You can call in a TV shop and get it fixed for around
400.00 or you can goto TvRepairKits. com - They have complete convergence
kits for under 70.00 which include step by step instructions and support!
I changed my IC chips but I only see a little difference in how the blue
moves. Do the resistors play that much of a role in how it works? I really
want to fix it but Im feeling like this is a lost cause. How do I know what
resistors to check and what setting should the volt tester be on?
I have a KP51WS510 that has a convergence issue and plan to fix it myself.
all the repair shops have quoted me anywhere between $300-$400 to fix it,
which I already suspected. My only concern is getting shocked even after
the tv is unplugged. Does this module disconnect from the tv?
I have a panasonic 55", the image shrinks when I first turn the tv on, then
after a few minutes it seems to look full sized, the more white that is on
the screen, the smaller the image will become, can you tell me what might
cause this, thanks. It's starting to drive me nuts,
Soldering's the easy part. Getting the board out is the hard part. I had
ZERO tv repair background and i did it. I had to mark all the wires and
stuff while i was pulling them out but once you get it out it's easy. it's
up to you on how cheap you want to be.
what would happen if i put the piece in and screw it it but dont solder it
in would it still work??????the reason i say that is because idont have the
tools to test the part out so i figure that way i would be able to see if
the part works before i solder.
I have a 55" mitsubishi big screen. It has blue and red at about a foot
from each edge. I want to repair it but have 0 experience and no soldering
iron. Should i still do this or have it repaired professionally. What would
it cost to have geek squad do it.
ALL you guys tryig to save a quik buck fixing your tv's CALL A TV MAN and
you the one who made this viveo stop taking food off my table chaning them

It runs sometimes for one hour then turn green with mix pink lines. I tried
to look for the T-con and can not find the t board its not the same as your
demo. I took out the back cover. Is it a tape connector and what is the
width. I saw about an inch and half an inch tape connector and a connector
with many wires instead of a tape. Need your help.
I am having a similar problem with my un40eh5000f. BUT it is only the *left
side* of the screen. And re-seating the plugs does not appear to help much
(may have made it a tad more stable but still flickering in and out).
