This is very emotional and sloppy but he just keeps repeating the same
phrases. I like Clanton better, and I certainly think his son-writing and
phrasing and rhythm playing was beyond anyone else at the time. Roy
Gallagher was great around that time, as was Roy Buchanan. Phil Keaggy was
amazing in the early seven ties, and Jeff Beck and Carlos Santana were
always killing it with Beck's technique and inventiveness and Carlos'
amazing mastery of tone, emotion, Latin/African phrasing, etc. Buddy is a
great blues player but I don't hear him playing anything technically
brilliant. But for the blues it is appropriate at times to play raw and
sloppy. He could play anything he wants of course.
