THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME 3D (Zero Punctuation)

For anyone who thinks Golden Eye hasn't aged well, you are wrong. But it's
not your fault, playing it on the N64 just taught you to play the game
wrong.
Here is a guide to playing Golden Eye:
-Use an emulator
-Use modern Gamepad with two joysticks (I use an 360 controller)
-Set up the controls so two controllers are plugged in (virtual
controllers, not real ones)
-Select the 2.1 Plenty or 2.2 Galore control scheme in game.
-Assign the left joystick to the first virtual controller and the right
joystick to the second virtual controller.
If you do it right the Left joystick will move the character and the right
joystick will look around like a modern FPS.
+Kathryn M Now here's the problem with that. It's no tumor, a completely negative thing no matter the circumstance, it's more of type of style. You see, by using an emulator, you are playing it not in the way it was intended, as such, the phase shouldn't be "It has aged well," but rather "It can be improved with modern means." You can do that with any old game, but what you can't do with all games is play it as it was meant to be played and still be a good game.
+Elite x62The problem with GoldenEye isn't in the gameplay or the visuals or the design. It's with the fact that the N64 was a bad controller for FPS's to develop on.It's basically like saying, "That old person sure is aging better now that they had their tumor that was holding them back removed."
+Kathryn M Maybe they aren't FPS games and Deus Ex is a PC game, but this isn't "which is the best FPS" this is "How do you know if a game has aged well."I point to my opening analogy. "It's like saying an old person has aged well because he went through plastic surgery." and then add "as opposed to the other old guy who looks different and never had plastic surgery, but still aged well."
Let me just clear things up a little though. I'm not saying it's aged perfectly, just that if you know how to play it, it plays a lot better than people give it credit for.
+Elite x62Your argument doesn't make a lot of sense. Star Fox 64 and Ocarina of Time aren't FPS games. And Deus Ex wasn't on the N64, So none of those games had the issue of working with the N64's controller in a first person control scheme. The fact that Rare was able to develop a control scheme that resembles modern controls in spite of the N64 controller shows how far ahead of the curve their design was.
+Kathryn M That's unfair. It's like saying an old person has aged well because he went through plastic surgery. Other old games don't have to use such methods and they still are fun. Look at Deus Ex, look at Star Fox 64, look at, hell, Ocarina of Time. You can play them like they were intended and they still are fun.
Guys, I love some good ol' nostalgia, hell, I prefer older games and their
Rom hacks more than most new console/PC game, but let's be honest, Golden
eye 007 for N64 may have been a fun game, but now just compare it to
something. ANYTHING. An example? Max Payne. The shooter is an older one,
not very old, but the graphics weren't the greatest thing ever, but I
digress. Hold up a picture from Golden eye N64 and hold it up to Max Payne
for a second. The first Max Payne game as on the original Playstation, and
the thing looks much much better.
