dont do what he is showing you its a big mistake i just paid 180$ for a TV
adjustment cause you can seriously ruin your tranny if you mess with it. i
was told by tranny shop to rebuild tranny and all it needed was a tv cable
the problem was i was shifting from 0-22mph at 2500-3000rpm (1st to 2nd)
IF you break your throttle bellcrank plastic clip:
Below is a link to a replacement clip that simply slides onto existing
cable.
Works great on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L, took about 5 min to
install if you include crushing the old one up to take it off.
Modeled after the original that broke on my jeep. Didn't want to install a
new cable for something so small and seemingly easy to fix....
//shpws.me/F0rh
For short style clip: //shpws.me/H32m
Please let me know what ya think, how it works for you, or doesn't work
right. Can be tweaked, just ask.
+jrh00800 What is the part number for that clip? I broke mine and the link that you've posted no longer works. Name of the part would help too because the guy at my parts store had no idea what I was talking about.
A jeep zj getting awesome mpg
Recently did a couple things to my old ZJ and it is getting some really I mean really good gas mileage. Filled up in Cookeville and went to Kingston then on in to ...
V8 ZJ Jeep Grand Cherokee Selec Trac 242 Swap
As promised, here's the cameraman's 5.2L V8 ZJ Grand Cherokee again explaining the exhaust noise inside the cabin. 166000 Miles and still young. This Jeep ...
All you need a NP242J transfer case from a 97 or 98 Grand Cherokee. and
make sure the input shaft is the same as the one you pull off your Grand.
Take the speed sensor out of your transfer case before you remove it (to
prevent damaging during the removal) and put it in the 242 case. After that
remove the information screen in front of your transmission shifter and
unplug the red plugs and plug in the black wires. This makes the screen
display the right modes (2wd, 4wd part-time, full-time, etc.)
@vr1exe I'd be happy to. All I did was remove the switches on the sides of
the seats and lift up the leather to get under to the element and found two
broken wires (VERY THIN WIRES so be careful!) they are located at the back
of the seats by the doors (closest to where you will be) and I soldered
them together. There is a clip/bracket holding the leather down on the
front of the seat (where your feet go while you're sitting) pull the Velcro
holding the leather down (CAREFULLY IT TEARS EASILY)
Thanks! and slightly better mpg, but it's nothing to jump for joy about.
I'd say just the 2wd ability gave me .5-1.5 0mpg better. You got to look at
the big picture though. With every 1 mpg better from our 23 gallon tanks is
23 miles more per tank so even just 4 mpg could be 92 miles difference.
With all my current mods on top of this I have my Jeep getting an average
of 20 mpg on the hwy. That's about 460 miles if I drive all highway. Not
bad for an old V8 originally rated for 12 city 17 hwy
Go for it. You should find an NP242 T-case while you're at it for
Selec-Trac. That's what this video is showing. It offers a true 2wd mode
while still offering a Full-Time 4wd like your 249 Quadra-Trac does, but
without the infamous Viscous Coupler that goes bad causing worse than our
already poor MPG. It also still has 4-LO and offer a 4wd Hi (Part-Time) as
well. I picked this T-case up for $300 and it was a direct swap. Just get
one from a 94 and it *should* (notice the *) fit right in.
@Seabeast1000 I never called it a truck because of its V8. I call it a
truck because of the work its done and the loads it has hauled. It's done
the work of a truck. My 99 GMC Suburban is my Real Truck (and yes I know
that's considered an SUV too) Let's face it a Suburban is a Silverado
Pickup with an extended cab, a welded hard top, and seats bolted in the
bed. Being a mechanic, I know because I've crawled under each of them.
I have a 96 5.2 running like new as no oil consumption and great
compression, yes i get 12 mpg city normal driving, when pushing such a
heavy vehicle i guess you cannot expect too much but when the snow hits and
i drive by those 'toys' like Rav-4, etc. it's worth, my ZJ is mainly a
weekend/winter vehicle and i love it, i have a 247 TC now, the 249 V/C was
locking when it got hot so someone suggested a 247 which works fine
If you look at under the leather in front of the seats you can pull the
leather up and back to expose this tissue like surface. Carefully and
slowly remove this material along the blue lines (it's Velcro but go slow
because it rips easily.), where the back and bottom of the chair meet by
the door you'll find two wires (probably 4 because they're torn.) Just
solder these back together and put the chairs back together. =)
the 242 i a direct swap as long as you get it from the same group of years.
For example, my ZJ is a 96 and the 242 T-case I have is from a 97; so most
242s from any 96-98 would work with no mods or changes. If yours is older
than 96 you need a 242 from a 93-95 ZJ and again Most will work but always
double check the spline count and length of the input shafts. =)
@Seabeast1000 L☺L people still do call these trucks. One with a bed,
usually called a "pick-up" truck". Usually old schoolers that have been
around before the "SUV" term became popular or known. I use my Grand just
like a truck, hauling tools and parts around. So the term can be debatable.
Since a pick up with a shell attached is pretty much the same thing.
Wish I had the 242 t-case, I have the Quadra Trac 249, which works fine
though the option to go to 2WD would be beneficial and would probably help
MPG riding on pavement. Have a 95 Grand Cherokee Limited, and also had a 95
Cherokee Sport year ago. I prefer the Sport not only for the Select Trac
but the 4.0 six for the MPG. Both great vehicles though.
Did you change the bearing yet? You should do it soon if not, The Grand
Cherokee I just bought was driven on a bad bearing so bad it grooved the
axle shaft, rendering it scrap metal. So it sat on blocks for a week till
the next weekend to hit pull a part for a new axle shaft. Notta bad job
just expected to change bearing and got surprized.
@moneyhungry8604 I also am a machanic, and we also have a 95 GMC Suburban,
and yes it is basically a sierra but even the suburban isn't a truck. Sure,
we use it too haul stuff. When I say truck I mean something big, for
example semis are trucks. To me, fullsize vehicles like a sierra, silverado
aren't trucks, they are pickups not trucks.
Im picking up a 1997 Orvis editon tomarrow it has 84.733 miles on the 5.2
it looks showroom new.The book said its worth over $5.800 with over 91 k
miles thay dont list for under 91k.And your jeep has 37k WOW!.The inside of
a 97 Orvis looks strange but thay only made 2733 of them. With the limited
trim or Orvis ed your 4 wheeling in style.
@moneyhungry8604 thanks for fast reply! Yeah, I have heard that the wires
are very thin. Wanted to make sure that all have have problems with wiring
not relays or elements. I already found a new redesigned wiring from
Chrysler (there was a TSB about this problem). In case you are interested,
part number is 05015478AA. Thanks for help )
I have a 1994 Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 5.2 V8 and I love it. I hate
the fact that mine has the all time 4 wheel drive though. Its sucks up some
gas really quick. Mine says that I average at about 14.6 MPG but i highly
doubt it. I would like to put one of those super 44 exhaust on mine. I
think it would sound pretty sick.
Thanks! I'm actually just going to get the motor back tomorrow. I took it
out and tore it down for a rebuild so the Jeep can go another 175,000
miles. I bored it .030 over, Comp Cam, Crane Rockers, Forged Pushrods,
Fully Built Heads, New Pistons and Rods, etc... I can't wait to fire it up!
It's going in tomorrow. Hopefully...
Thanks man gonna check it out today see if i can get them to work. its so
cold without them lol. Also i see you do alot of 242 swaps. do you have
anymore info? im looking at doing this swap not a fan of AWD but want info
if i need new shafts? is it a plug and play? anything needed to be moded?
thanks
@vr1exe Just work the Velcro back with your fingers slowly and you'll find
them. I found out the wires tear due to their thin size and the fact that
we get in and out of the seats. (sad huh? but it's a relatively easy fix)
Hope This Helps! =D
Thanks I actually just got the motor rebuilt, bored .030 over, Comp Cam,
Fully Built Heads, Crane 1.6 Rocker Arms. Love the way it sounds now. It's
real throaty and torquey. I'm making the video as I type! It'll be up later
tonight!!!
$3.90 a gallon?!? That's fucking good...! Up here in Canada, our gas price
is like $1.45 per litre....! What a joke...! But no problem with me as I
have 2.5 Turbo Diesel XJ Cherokee 5 speed manual.
ok so i want to do this with my 1997 jeep grand cherokee, go from a quad to
a 2x4 and be able to change back and forth. i have got the 5.2 mag, what
would i need to get and what would you recommend
i have a 1995 jeep grand Cherokee limited with 318 side piped and I wana do
the 242 t case swap cause I have the all wheel drive t case and it sucks
what do I need to change to make it work
understood thanks, did you have any vibes problems with the 242? and if i'm
not asking too much, can you post a full list of the mods? i ask because i
own a 98 limited 318 with some bolt ons.
Great video, im looking to do the same exact thing gonna switch the
transfer case from a 98 jgc laredo select trac to my 97 jgc limited 5.2.
any tips or issues i should look out for?
No problems It works and shifts like a charm. Sure I updated the
description. Watch my other videos to see my other mods this is actually
the first video and mod I did.
whirring/howling noise from differential '97 Jeep ZJ Grand Cherokee
Follow UP! Here is the problem: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrLfnF3bP8Y&list=UUPU6iZsrAY5pVWT2gCJ498Q&index=1&feature=plcp A few weeks later ...
Yes. Check the Follow UP link in the description. The differential was
going, bunch of cracked gear teeth and the carrier was really loose due to
blown bearings. Ended up replacing the entire axle for $350 rather than
trying to repair the diff.
We're going to visit Daddy today! His apartment building is nice. There are little sculpted bushes outside. I put my Hot Wheels on a fun ride though a little box ...
Well,I rear ended a 3 series in 2010,I crashed into a tree a year later,
hit a deer 3 months after the tree incident, and my friend hit his garage
door when he is driving it. What car? My WJ 4.7 H.O. V8 Overland. Forget
the Toyota Hilux,go for a Saab,a Volvo,or a Jeep. I've done 240k with it.
Still runs like a champ.
+Y10Q Yea, the 3.6 pentastar they have in them now is a pile of crap and will blow a gasket in a million different areas if you stomp it, but the engine is crazy powerful and it does get a hell of a lot better mpg than the i6. I'd still rather have the underpowered and crap gas mileage of an i6 over the 3.6 though.
