+iHatePop Well yea but it's not gonna smoke the tubes immediately to run it wide open. It'll just accelerate their wear. He was only gonna do it once or twice. I was backwards in that yes, if you run it without a load, it will destroy the transformer. I said if he did that it would blow the tubes. I wonder if he ever did it.
+promech3888 You aren't quite correct. Using a volume control low is not the same as attenuation. Attenuation is running the amp at more power than what is reaching the speakers. Running an amp on high volume does wear out tubes faster, just as using an attenuator will wear out tubes faster. It is due to the fact that they are being pushed harder, only when using an attenuator not all the power being produced by the amp is running through the speakers. There is a higher risk of blowing a tube when the amp is at full volume, but still not an overly high risk unless the tubes are ready to blow anyways. Also, you never even want to turn your amp on without being connected to speakers, as just being on without a proper load can fry your power transformers.
+promech3888 cool thanks. I'll try to put a video up of it with two amps: the Marshall, and a 150 watt crate blue voodoo. The crate is loud as shit, much louder than the Marshall. Now, I just have to find a time when my parents are not home ;)
+Mark iic plus 44 yea. They're designed to output their full potential. In fact running attenuation will shorten their life slightly because it chokes them off. If you're running a different cab than what comes with the amp or that has a lower power rating, then your speakers may shit the bed, but the tubes will be fine. Assuming you never ever ever give it an input signal (never play a single note) without speakers plugged in. You will be buying new tubes then. And maybe a transformer too. Hell put a video up of it. I'll watch it.
+Mark iic plus 44 They're meant to run wide open bud. They won't design it or build it not to be run that way. There would be a warning other than the hearing damage one if it couldn't take it
+James Rockford well it doesn't matter with Kerry, he can sound shit anyway, 'cause he only plays 4 notes per song, and don't expect a plexi to sound good in a probably built up area, needs that crank up, also, most attenuators suck balls
@PinkyWontWork sounds like a great set-up you have. In terms of strats its
a constant struggle to keep them in tune and the bane of my life. Use one
string tree, but sacrifices tone, nut sauce and set spring tension to that
if you pull up or down it settles back to the same mid point so there is
even balance between springs and strings. Have slightly more spring tension
on bass strings. Even then there are good and bad days and I get very
nervous b4 a gig!!! lol (in frustration)
@jhep1 I give props to anyone that gigs with a vintage trem and manages to
pull it off. The nice tone a real vintage str@t trem makes is so much
better than a floyd. But it is such a pain in the ass to keep the vintage
trem working and in tune, even with all the precautions you can take. I'm
just lazy and say fuck it and use a floyd rose locking system. I guess I
sacrifice tone for being practical. Plus I'm paranoid that I will go out of
tune.
@PinkyWontWork I think it sounds a little harder if you know what I mean.
The base tone of an old plexi (I have a 77 super lead) is slightly nicer
but this has more flexibility and the ability to get output stage
distortion at any level, with the master maxed out. My plexi gets a bit
messy maxed out. but is great at around 6-7. I wish I could have a combo of
them both. This sounds more like an old plexi with the tone controls right
down.
I just ordered this fantastic amp for a little Christmas present to myself.
I was wondering what are your exact settings on the eq to get this monster
tone. I've seen alot of vids on here and none sound quite as good as yours.
I'm sure alot has to do with your hands. I'll play around with it till I'm
happy when I get it. But any heads up and a good starting place would be
delightful. Thanks again man. Ciao!
Thanks. My playing has changed quite a bit since this video and was
deliberately doing my old Yngwie impression. Have since been studying
fusion and getting in the mindset of chaps like Holdsworth, Henderson,
Gambale, Scofield and Stern helped massively by some skype lessons with
Derry Gabel which has improved my playing massively. Hence the interest in
your Holdsworth videos which are excellent, thanks
@MeritMaestro I honestly cant remember, but probably bass 6, middle 5,
treble, 4 , presence 1, boost gain and volume 10, master volume 10, EPA
0.5. The boost is quite trebily so you have to keep the treble down to
compensate. Keeping the tone controls on the low side sounds less modern. I
actually quite like having the tones on zero. It sounds similar to my old
marshalls with all the tones on full
@cfwilkins2003 im still working on it after having some direct tuition from
Uli Roth. Need to be able to do vibrato in 16ths, 8ths and 1/4th as well as
triplets. Even movements around the centre line. slow is very hard. watch
m,ichael schenker and study that. I can do a blackmore vibrato but still
want to improve my slow vibrato
@jhep1 Right on man. I have a modded (Dave Friedman with BE and HBE) MKII
50 watter myself and there's nothing like old Plexi tone. I'm going to
check one of these YJMs out. One more question if you don't mind..how do
you keep those strats in tune??? Do you use the trem? I know Yngwie does
and I don't get how he does it.
You remind me of yngwie in this video /watch?v=biiuHUgW5Zw Definitely
sounds like his old classic tone and you know a lot of yngwie's phrasing, I
don't know of anyone on youtube that shows a better demonstration of his
tone. Obviously your not him, but I think you represent him proudly in your
own way.
@ToXin88 the neck pup has a bit more bass than the dimarzio. The furys are
a bit more responsive and easier to play, especially when using less gain.
The dimarzios can be painfully weak unless you use a pedal to kick the
front of the amp. Its more of a 'feel' thing. Tonally they are very similar
@thebibleisalltrue Hotplates are 100% garbage. They suck about 70% of your
tone..they're not worth it. If you're looking for a great attenuator look
into the Aracom PRX150 Pro. I have one and use it with my MKII Plexi you
have to try one to believe it. Check out some videos of it. \m/
@ToXin88 Hi. I have a yjm strat as well. Mine used to belong to yngwie, you
can see it on my channel wallpaper. I just like the white of this one which
i picked up pretty cheap. I have a whole bunch of strats. Im a bit of an
addict. haha. It is very similar to the real thing actually
@spakattack thanks. just watched that vid. i see what you mean, it will be
because my early style was influenced by this era of yngwie and the live
alcatrazz. these days i play very differently but had a bit of fun for this
vid with the new amp , playing the old stuff. thanks man
love your playing. why don't you allow yourself to get a real yjm strat? in
my opinion you wasted a whole bunch of money on the mexican customization.
used yjm strats sell around 900p. i played 2 mexican strats before my yjm.
this is like a totally different guitar in any way!
@jhep1 that's great. for you do have a direct comparison. what's your
opinion on the yjm fury coils? me personally, i love the dimarzios and
don't expect anything of the yjm. why should yngwie after all those years
of legendary playing and tones swich to seymour duncan?
Hi I just got yjm100 and this is my first experience with a tube amp.
YJM100 sounds very muddy and muffled through my 2x12 avatar cab. Do you
have a solution? What seems to be a problem Help me out please,,, My yjm100
sounds nothing like your's.
@jhep1 Thanks alot man. I'll check it out. Also I assume the noise gate
works if I plug in an external overdrive and leave the one on the marshall
off. I have an old dod grey 250 that I bet would sound killer with this
beauty of an amp.
@jhep1 Right on..ah by the way..great fucking playing man. How would you
compare this YJM Marshall to the rela Plexis? Is the tone the same? Or is
it like the newer MArshalls? If this is like the old Plexis I'll have to
check one out.
Absolutely fantastic demo! Thanks for showing how amazing this amp sounds
at bedroom levels. Your playing is spot-on, as well. We're still waiting
for this amp to arrive in the States, but it looks like it's available in
Europe.
sounds amazing mate!! Wish i was getting one but saddly not!!! What are you
using to record this mic wise?!?!? Sounds really good and bet it screams
when you have the volume up through a couple of 4 x 12's haha Cheers mate
Benni
@edisoncoelho1 thanks!!! if you like the riff, check out our album with
track samples on line. its a song called blood in the sand by Cardinal
Synne. Theres a vid on my channel of me playing an early demo of it as
well. thanks
