+louves118 Yeah it is quite a bit lower than stock but not too low. Our STI has modified fenders with fender flares, so rubbing is not an issue for us :)Thanks,Rick
Thanks man! Yea they ride really well! Not too stiff and not bouncy at all. Great for street use and the occasional back road driving. Just search on ebay or Amazon and type in "Tein street basis coilovers lancer" and it should pop up.
My very first track day in my GT86. The car is slightly modified, main things are: - Suspension Technologies ST XTA coilovers - Suspension Technologies ...
Your GT86 seems to oversteer violently and looks like a bit scary in high
speed corners... in particular with all these walls all around.
Hope you enjoyed this first trackday anyway ! :-)
Are you planning to go soon to another circuit ?
+lintrepide, thank you, It was a lot of fun for sure! :-)The car actually didn't feel bad at all! Both spins were 100% my fault by going to heavy on the pedal. The first one (first lap in Villeneuve chicane) I was caught by surprise. The slide in Jacky Icks, was due to braking too late and taking the wrong line, then accelerating too hard. The spin on the next round also in Jacky Icks was me being too eager and over confident. At higher speed the car actually felt very stabile. E.g. the slight oversteer at 10:55 (in the 3rd gear pretty fast lefthand curve "Earste") was very easy to correct. Only at slow speed there was enough power to make the rear step out under throttle, and only in the chicanes where the weight is transferring sideways. In wet conditions it might be a different thing.Another few things, I left the damper rebound setting at 9/16 towards soft. So I have to test out if it changes the balance if I set them harder all round. Also the tires became very slippery after a few faster laps (along with mushy brakes and hot engine oil!).I am quite happy that it is loose, because most predicted the choice of coilovers would be biased towards understeer. So I think loose is a better starting point to get it dialed in.What I really enjoyed is that the stock understeer at medium speed is gone and the character of the car remain largely unchanged.
Learning To Drift: Part 4 - Turbo FR-S
My third time out on a real drifting course, with OEM rear tires, a stage 2 turbocharger, pedal dance mode, coilovers & sway bars, and absolutely no skill ...
You're doing a good job already but allow the wheel to spin in your hands,
it can counter way faster for you, just grab it at the right time and do
minor adjustments.
+PowerSports I use my handbrake to drift quite often, and I do testify that it is really hard on the ebrake system... But I plan on doing a Hydro E-brake, and I agree that its a super useful skill to possess. Unless you either learn weight transfer or use the ebrake(both hopefully!!!), you won't be able to initiate before the corner and maintain it. Also, stick to 2nd gear... You really shouldn't need first except for getting started. Trust me, in in a NA FRS and I can clutch-kick or power through 2nd.. It's much more stable and you aren't having to shift mid-drift because you ran out of rpms.
+Aletzr That would be too hard on my car, the turbocharger delivers plenty of power to clutch-kick and also just plain power-over into a drift. ^_^ My original drifting video, part 1, i tried the ebrake, and it was a disaster. Haha.
+Bob Morhac Sorry Bob! I'm way too busy with work and the car.
4.9 Fiero GT
Its almost done, 86 fiero with 88 rear suspension and a cadillac 4.9l 300ci v8 with 282 cam ported heads, ac delete, cc delete, 450lbs coilovers in the back.
@TrailRider9664 The 4.9 swap is one of the easiest, id say it took me 7
months (fulltime student and full time job) and about 4 or 5k invested, but
ive done more than just the swap. the only thing you need to do the swap is
knowledge of every part of a car, custom motor mounts and a very confusing
new wiring harness, those are the major things. While i was at it i did the
88 rear cradle swap too to help with handling and i put race suspension on
all corners. Great car, i recommend this swap.
@preston121068 I dont think it was so much cooling that was bad, but the
major areas of heat containing flammable things, like the firewall lining
is more or less paper, that was the big problem. I have done nothing to the
cooling system, and it run no hotter than 195 with the thermostat i have in
now, i have although taken out all dampening material, so there is nothing
to catch on fire. And see my dyno video for the update! Thanks!
@ybafool2 Where i live they are extremely rare and when you find one it is
200 min. and usually in bad shape. I do plan on doing the intake swap this
summer though, and roller rockers.
Any new updates on this? Pretty cool build but was wondering one thing.
Feiro's were notorious for cooling problems with the rear engine mount. Did
you make any mods to cool the V8?
What did you do to the motor internally? Your description says ported
heads, I'm guessing you gasket matched the intake and exhaust
ports/manifolds, anything else?
Forgot to add, it sounds amazing Yo' dang... Sweet cat bro, you from the
OC, we should meet so you can look at my car, I'm in Anaheim, close to
Tustin..
