Great video, Tom. I always look forward to the Doctor Who Christmas
specials even though I am aware that they're not the best of episodes. I
don't understand why people dislike 'A Christmas Carol', I think it's a
fantastic episode and easily in my top 2 Christmas specials along with 'The
Christmas Invasion'. I would probably say 'The Doctor, the Widow and the
Wardrobe' is my least favourite of the lot but I do agree with you that
'The Next Doctor'. Overall, a great list! Although I am a little dubious
about the title, I am looking forward to 'The Husbands of River Song' and
hopefully it will be up there with the very best. :)
+Labyrinth35 I know their not the best of episodes but I really do enjoy them for what they are. Yeh A Christmas Carol is lovely, it such a good episode I dont understand the hate it gets.
God you weren't kidding when you said this video would be controversial! I
always look forward to the Christmas special but somehow I think that these
specials go wrong where the writer over does the "Christmas theme" and
that's why I think personally last Christmas went wrong, the doctor the
widow and the wardrobe and also time of the doctor. Still at least I can
agree that Christmas invasion is brilliant
Firstly, this is CelticPred1997. I've started making videos now so created
this account for that and for commenting on film and tv related things.
Oh that music at 0:31 has such nostalgia for me.
The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe - I'm not that keen on it, and it
did disappoint me at the time, and it is my least favourite episode of
Russell T. Davies' era (I like all RTD era episodes), I think. But I don't
think it's bad as such. It has such good elements to it, i.e. the whole
Jackson Lake story and the emotional aspect to that. But yeah, it did just
feel a bit boring and bland.
The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe - It's boring. I can't really
remember this episode nor 'A Christmas Carol' as I've only seen them once
(upon airing). But I know for a fact that I did not like this episode. It
was just boring. It had a nice emotional bit, but that's it. It just
irritates me otherwise.
Voyage of the Damned - Yeah, this episode also took me until my last watch
to appreciate. But now I do really like it.
The End of Time - Firstly, part 2 is a New Year's Special technically, but
fair enough. I don't particularly care about the villain story as a whole
although I love the Master switching sides at the end. But what I do love
about the episode is the regeneration story. Wilfred Mott is amazing and
just the talk of regeneration is done so well and uniquely makes the story
enjoyable.
The Snowmen - I love it for Clara. But villain plot-wise, it wasn't very
good and it has a bad ending. Oh yes, the score is brilliant. I love Murray
Gold :p
The Time of the Doctor - I enjoyed it despite the flaws. But looking back I
can't really remember why I liked it. So I've ranked it lower on my list.
It actually seems quite boring remembering the story.
Last Christmas - It's so brilliant and underrated in my opinion. I was
worried about how they'd do Father Christmas but they managed that
perfectly. 'Last Christmas' is debatably my favourite episode of the Moffat
era. I'm not sure because I loved 'The Witch's Familiar' (and 'The
Magician's Apprentice' but that was less enjoyable as not as it's just set
up) but that was more plot holey so I think actually, yeah, I'll go with
'Last Christmas'.
The Runaway Bride - Like 'Voyage of the Damned' (more so I think), I didn't
like it that much at the time it aired and for quite a while. But the last
time I watched it I realised how funny it is (Catherine Tate humour went
completely over my head when I was a child apparantely). So I just find it
a very fun episode. And that TARDIS taxi scene is just amazing. Completely
brilliant. I didn't like that either when I first watched it as the idea of
the TARDIS flying like that was silly to me. But now, I just... as I said,
I love it. There are a lot of great scenes in 'Doctor Who' and if I think
too much about it I'll probably actually put this low down on a list, but
off the top of my head, it's one of my favoruite scenes in 'Doctor Who'.
Having the children in another car cheering too just makes it that much
better as they're representing the audience. :p
A Christmas Carol - As I said, I can't remember it that well. But I think I
liked it, particularly considering I had low expectations. I'm not a fan of
the Charles Dickens story (well actually, the story is lovely but I don't
tend to like film adaptations - that's probably of a lie actually. I think
I like more versions than I dislike), and it's so cliche to have a kids
show do their version of it, and that takes away believability for me, so
that did annoy me. But, it was done quite uniquely, and it did have a
lovely story to it, so I do like it. But I did see it in 2010, so I can't
remember it that well.
A Christmas Carol - Brilliant. It did so well to introduce the next Doctor
generation. "Did you miss me" is another great moment in 'Doctor Who'. The
Pilot Fish Santa's are great. The killer Christmas Tree was done so well
and is comedic while threatening - just like the Slitheen (well they're
supposed to be comedic with the farting. Either way they're fun). The one
thing I didn't like at the time is Harriett Jones going against the Doctor.
That felt unnecessary at the time and left the story on a sadder note. Now
I just look at it as development on her character.
My ranking:
10. The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe
9. The Time of the Doctor
8. The Snowmen
7. The Next Doctor
6. A Christmas Carol
5. The End of Time
4. Last Christmas
3. Voyage of the Damned
2. The Runaway Bride
1. A Christmas Invasion
As for the upcoming Christmas Special, 'The Husbands of River Song', I have
low expectations as River Song is often used unnecessarily/badly and I've
seen the promotional image showing a bulky red robot, and I don't care for
bulky robots as it looks silly. Hopefully though, Moffat will conclude the
River Song arc well.
Also, I'm actually sad that the sonic sunglasses will be going. I expected
they would be but I thought it was a good addition to the Twelfth Doctor.
Right jeez where to start ahah. First things first you have some interesting thoughts on all of them. You should make a video on it for sure, it would be interesting to see. Also I know end of time part two is a New Year's Day special but I did mention in the that I would be putting it in the video due to it concluding ehat was the Xmas special but also due to how close it was to the festive period. I'm staying open minded on the Christmas special as if I am to ore judge something I will most likely hate it due to me 'wanting' to.
Great video! My favourite Christmas special is Voyage of the Damned, but I
can see why some don't like it due to it's serious tone. The Husbands of
River Song... Not too sure about the title, but I'm hoping it will be good.
The new sonic looks interesting though. At first, I didn't want 12 to meet
River but it kinda makes sense now (River referred to 10 as being so
young).
It's not the fact it was a more serious tone that made me not enjoy it as much as others, it just seemed to be missing the Christmas charm? I'm staying sceptical on the Christmas special until I've seen it, but yes the sonic looks nice
Martha Jones | Battles In Time | HD
Its time to go head to head with Jay Kent in the second Battles In Time where we discuss the fan dividing companion Martha Jones Jays Channel ...
Great video guys, I've got to be honest I do like Martha Jones and Series 3
in general but I do agree that Martha didn't reach her potential until the
latter half of the series. I much prefer her at the end than at the
beginning and I'm not a fan of her being in love with the Doctor, it
forever constant until the very end of Series 3. I think she's great in the
Series 3 finale, Torchwood and Series 4. :)
Martha really was let down by the acting and the writing. Also the fact she
mentioned she was in love with 10 every five minutes! The fact that 10 (my
Doctor) was a bastard to her doesn't help! And I agree the Family of
Blood/Human Nature two parter was when Martha came alive. I respect and
admire her decision to leave.
+D-Dino Thank you very much! :D I assume you're referring to the 12th Doctors's theme - I have done a cover of the that, but did it before the official soundtrack version was released. You can check the cover out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is9LjiX9Oog I will be doing a cover of the full official soundtrack 12th Doctor's theme in the future :)
Excellent work-these are getting better and better. Maybe try to get your
piano tuned though (sounded a bit flat throughout). Not a criticism of your
playing however :-)
+Richard Lloyd Thanks! :) And I know it isn't the best, but it does cost rather a lot for it to be tuned so I don't think that'll be happening anytime soon, lol ;)
