This is the electro-pneumatic air shifter I designed and built for my motorized recliner chair project. The engine is a 125cc Lifan with a 4-up, semi-auto ...
Excellent idea, and a really nice job Chris. Been planning on
doing something similar, except for each time the transmission shifts, it
will also work the clutch. Experience is telling me this will be no push
over, and may not work at all. It will have to be heavy, like an automotive
solenoid to have enough strength to move it. Which will draw a lot of amps,
so it will be interesting, playing around with it.
ok i could really use some help, im trying to design and build a pnuematic
shifter like what you have, im just trying to figure out the electronics
portion and shifting cylinder that you used in your motorized chair. is
there a detailed drawing of everthing and how its hooked up? could you
please help me out this is for a formula style racecar my university is
building ! please message me on here! thank you!
It's a Viair 450c compressor that can go up to 250 psi. I think it was
around $200 on ebay but I probably could have gone with a smaller model
since I never go above 175psi. Great compressor though.
A nicely done project..although I had some doubts:-
1) how do you manage the clutch while up-shifting or downshifting while
driving?
2) while driving does the compressor use power from engine?
I didn't need to use relays for the solenoids because they don't draw much
current. I wired them directly to a 12v battery and used a single throw
double pole center off switch to control them.

testing out the C02 shifter setup i am making. it worked on the bench, now to see how it works in the car on the actual trans it will operate, engaging the gears.
Dude your audi is one of the sickest I've ever seen, im guessing you did
most if not all of the work yourself? What tranny set up are you running?
And one Las question lol, how much do you think you've got into it now that
it's all finished if you don't mind me asking?
