Excellent idea, and a really nice job Chris. Been planning on doing something similar, except for each time the transmission shifts, it will also work the clutch. Experience is telling me this will be no push over, and may not work at all. It will have to be heavy, like an automotive solenoid to have enough strength to move it. Which will draw a lot of amps, so it will be interesting, playing around with it.

It's a Viair 450c compressor that can go up to 250 psi. I think it was around $200 on ebay but I probably could have gone with a smaller model since I never go above 175psi. Great compressor though.

A nicely done project..although I had some doubts:- 1) how do you manage the clutch while up-shifting or downshifting while driving? 2) while driving does the compressor use power from engine?

I didn't need to use relays for the solenoids because they don't draw much current. I wired them directly to a 12v battery and used a single throw double pole center off switch to control them.

I like, I am going to build one for my drag riding mower, where did you buy your cylinder and for how much? and whats the stroke on that cylinder?
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-we3-EypmuA0/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/k7qFt2JzmVE/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
It's a double acting 1-1/8" (I think) diameter cylinder with a 3" stroke, (1.5" in either direction). I got it from Grainger Industrial Supply.

very nicely done. may i know how you make your double acting cylinder stop in the middle instead of going all the way?
