So Pirelli nominates a tire that the teams have to use in each race? You said for China it was the soft or medium. (Which esssentially is no different from having to use 2 different compounds). But will there ever be a time when Pirelli mandates ONE type of tire to be used at a certain track?

+amaroudis Pirelli nominates 2 compounds for the race (usually the hardest compounds), and you must use at least 1 out of the two provided but still use 2 different compounds throughout the race.

+URsuckishATlifeI understand everything...but does Pirelli nominate a certain compound you HAVE to use during the race ( besides the quickest tire they used during Q2)  Or as long as they use 2 different compounds from the 3 choices, they are within the regulations?

It's different from the options-and-prime days of F1 in the sense that you can run a race without even using a certain compound. One car could run 2 compounds and another could run 3. It adds strategy.
