defense wasn't shit back then everyone was just in basic cardio shape.
Today's players are on programs weight training regimens the works.
Honestly today's warriors would not even need to shoot against the hawks
here they would run past them and lay it up or dunk very other time no
contest. Bird was the ultimate shooter with very good skills, but put him in
today and he would just be a very good player maybe even a bench player who
shoots 15-20 points a game and a catch a shoot specialist because those lay
ups would get rejected these days.
+Jay TeeNaw, man....you misunderstand, and if its my typing, my bad. There just was more intense defense back then. Trust me.....it just seems like people just run with guys, don't slide their feet, fouls are called way too quickly, players are softer as a whole, and they can now play zone defense. Against any type of zone or defense where people would get called for ticky tack fouls, Bird would be unstoppable in his jump shooting.
+Vlad T correct me if I'm wring but your very first response was "players can't hand check,3secs, hard foul" There are many players such as delly, tony Allen, pat Beverley and others that toe the line as far as 80's and 90's physicality goes. They're great defenders. Avery Bradley, danny green, kawhi--- its just YOU don't think they're great bcus great D to you is pulling a guys arm back if he goes past you, and hockey Checking a guy !Sorry man but that's a big difference. You act like there was just something in the water back then that made players defensive gods or something
+Jay TeeAre you kidding? Nowadays teams are allowed to play zone, to make defense playing easier. Against a zone, Bird would have had a lot more open shots. Zones are meant to force outside shots. There are not really any players known for their defense nowadays. Think of todays all stars, and who may or may not be defensive starters. Nowadays, if you even look at a guy too aggressively, you get called for a flagrant 8 and have to take anger management classes. Hand checking or no, there is no aggressive defense nowadays, players don't know the basics (hello....who the hell slides their feet anymore?)
+Vlad T why? So you can combat it with "He wasn't better defensively than insert player from 1992 "Defenses are more complex. Floor spacing. Bird wouldn't be able to get those wide open looks.
+Jay TeeI also mentioned specific players at two different positions that you chose to ignore. I only proved your point if you choose to pick and choose what I say.P.S. There are "plenty" is not the name of a player who comes to mind
+Jay TeeNot really.....the defense was a lot tougher. I have yet to see a Rodman, Michael Cooper-esque player in this NBA.Also, the minute Lebron tried to flop, his ass would have been on the ground next time. The same thing if he tried to posterize someone....His ass would have been rejected or thrown on the floor, or both. Even comparing point guards....Stockton was slow, but gritty. Payton would shut guys down. What point guard by name nowadays comes to mind as a great defender? And I mean, that quality?
thank you thank you thank you! the game was slower then and the defense looked like it would fall apart. when ppl mentioned defense the first thing they point out is hand checking and the physical hits!THATS NOT DEFENSE, THATS FOOTBALL!
Today's players can't hand check, hard foul, and have to deal with defensive 3 seconds. Sorry....players may be stronger today, but individual and team defense is pussified and in a lot of ways, nonexistent. Scores are lower because no one can hit the midrange anymore
