Forgotten World Adventures and a Train of Rail Mounted Golf Carts - Part 1
Join me for awesome two day New Zealand experience with "Forgotten World Adventures" and a Train of Rail Mounted Golf Carts. Our journey starts near ...
+Farmer Farmerer I would love to have enough time when I visit New Zealand to do those wonderful cycle rides you mention. Money has been spent on the commuter networks around Auckland and Wellington, but I read with horror that the electrification on the North Island main Trunk might be taken down, when it should really be completed, it does not matter about different voltages. It is common in Europe for locomotives to be able operate on several different systems. I have to agree with you that it is unlikely that any of the mothballed lines will reopen. I live in the UK where the value of railways is being realized again as our roads clog up and traffic comes to a halt, some old lines are being reopened, but the cost is prohibitive. Unfortunately rail rarely makes a profit, but it is a much better way to transport heavy goods over long distances, again in the UK lorry firms are now working with rail in an integrated manner. In Switzerland the government realizes the benefits of keeping freight off the roads and invests heavily in its rail network, proving that rail still has its place in the modern world.
+Timsvideochannel1 Yep, I personally enjoyed the Otago Rail trail ride, (bicycle) all 150 km of it.Also the Kaikohe rail - cycle trail. And now Dargaville has these golf carts on a section of track too.Which is why I checked out your video.Real shame though, all these trucks on the road.Cannot see rail reopening anywhere that has been mothballed - due to enormous maintenance costs, tracks, over bridges, under bridges, not to mention tunnels - alot of the tunnels are too small for a standard shipping container.
Wohoo! That looks like FUN! Here in the U.S. there are groups of people
who own what are called "speeders". These are small gas powered rail cars
that were originally used by RR maintenance and inspection crews. The
owners get together and have mass rides along little used or abandoned rail
lines.
+John Combs Hi John, this was an awesome way to spend two days. I have taken a look at some videos featuring speeders, it is some thing I would love to do. There is something about abandoned railway lines and speeders are a great way to explore them.
Hi, Nice vid. One thing you could do. is put a rubber bushing between the
wheels and the cab. This will take some of the noise out. It will make your
trip much more enjoyable.
+Joseph Hoffmann Hi Joseph, thanks for your comment, most of the noise comes from the metal guide wheels mounted in front and behind the rubber wheels, I am sure some sort of rubber damping device would help to reduce it. When riding the carts the noise is not that noticeable, I think the mic on the camera may have exaggerated it a bit.
Thank you very much Tim, I saved it to my favorites so I can view it now. Have a Great Weekend!, and Thank you again, it sure does look like a fun trip! :o)
+Larry R Wendell Jr Hi Larry, that trip was fun, I loved every moment. It was areal Kiwi experience. Below are the links to parts 2 & 3 ... Best Wishes ... Tim.Part 2 - https://youtu.be/zaibFM-qM2YPart 3 - https://youtu.be/ix3u3vSljwY
