Representations of Africans in Western Media
My creative project was a video that compiled representations of Africans across a variety of forms and genres of visual media, from entertainment cartoons of ...
+public offender Yeah Ive been to west virginia and its a dirty shit hole. Why is america so fucking poor? Ignore all the tourist bullshit like the big cities i.e. NYC or the nice suburbs. Those are just for the few privileged or wealthy tourists
+public offender The reason why many african-Americans(black Americans) don't wanna associate themselves with us(Africans) is because of western media..Every-time they show you about Africa all ABOUT AIDS,Ebola, poverty,Uncivilized, people living in hats, jungle and without hope...White people in america don't feel ashamed that their ancestors are from Europe...Why?,because Europe is like a paradise according to the media..Look how the american cops act towards "african-American" in general....Why?.it's because of how media portrays black man in america.Black man in america is always number one suspect of crime...That is exatly the same thing they are doing about Africa.....It causes divisions,Caucasian in general they don't trust african-Americans.....you see what i mean my brother, today some african-Americans feel ashamed to be african because of the advert they have seen about Africa and the mike Tyson movie...I'm i wrong?......there will still be division and racism among us if we still continues to believe the western media.....I'm sorry if i offended you,i didn't mean to....Much love from South Africa....Have a blessed day,and peace unto us(black people) and humanity at large(all race)..
+public offender I'm not even talking about scenic or resort areas. Yes the overall quality of life is better in the US than the Majority of Africa for obvious reasons, but the quality of life in the richer areas of South Africa, and many of the Northern African countries have a better quality of life than the US cities I previously mentioned. Fact is most westerners in general wouldn't survive in the continent(not just blacks). I was born and raised in the US (NYC) and visited Africa multiple times, in charge of my family business, Currently living in Belgium. Business is doing well but the governments there need work like governments anywhere. Many of the elite in those countries are trying to boost the economy but there is still a large amount of corruption there. If the corruption was as low as most of the west in west Africa, they would be some serious contenders as world powers. The number of natural resources in that region are much more than any place on the planet.
+TheHitman™ LOL the only thin g that makes the places (in the US) you listed dangerous are the people living there. Ironicallyyou misunderstood, I know there are nice places in Africa, but Overall quality of life is better in the US, and if you have been to African countries and have been to the US you would have to agree that most blacks in the US would not survive Africa,. There is no welfare in Congo, Ivory Coast or Ghana. ever notice all the trash in Ghana? people just throw their litter on the ground. the electricity goes out all the time, and the healthcare system is pitiful. You must be talking aboiut scenic views and resort areas,
+public offender I've been to Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal, and Morocco. My family is from Nigeria and I know what I am talking about. READ BOTH COMMENTS BEFORE replying. Your limited knowledge of the area and brief visits don't count for much. Africa is a large continent with many different countries and regions. You also stated that the best parts of Africa are worse than the worst places in the US? LOL You obviously don't know anything about Lagos, Accra, Abjidan, Cairo, Cape Town, Johannesburg and other places. The worst places in the US are worse than most places in the world tbh (Memphis, Baltimore, Detroit etc.)
+TheHitman™ have you ever been to any part of Africa?? I never said it represents the whole continent, but everyone I know who ahs been to other places in Africa have the same description, your bullshit is meaningless. pull YOUR head out of your ass, clown
+public offender Another thing is that Just because you went to maybe two cities in one country and you know one or two people who lived in countries in Africa a while back doesn't represent the Entire continent. Pull your head out of your ass.
I've been to Nigeria mulitple times and you couldn't be more wrong. And the worst parts of the US are complete dumps compared to the best parts of the continent of Africa. You are also forgetting about the North African countries and South Africa as well.
+Robert La Vita I didn't realize that soecifics are necessary, Ive been to Ghana and Togo . Not at resorts or tourist bullsht. I also personally know many people from Nigeria, Congo and Kenya. The worst part of the US is better than the best aprts of Africa, or any of its countries, with very few exceptions Im sure. I can not say this is fact, but it is based on what I have seen and what I have heard from credible people. Perhaps I may exaggerate, but its isn't too far from the truth
I don't mean to downgrade your experience in 'Africa', but I just want to say that Africa is not a country, its a continent. There are over 50 countries with only 5 of them engaged in civil war and to judge the continent based on a visit to only one or two of these countries is unacceptable.
