A great weekend riding around Signal Mountain, TN on my Honda Silverwing Scooter
I spent the day riding up from Atlanta, GA to Signal Mountain, TN on my Honda SIlverwing with a friend who rides a Piaggio MP3 250. We took turns mounting on ...
+Gary West you just go to silverwing video after silverwing video and complain about the sound, turn down your sound or go ride your silverwing. you sound like an old woman.
Notice it doesn't mention the final drive oil though, I'd bring it up to them just to be safe. At 107,000 miles mine exploded. The oil had solidified and the bearings failed.
Lets see, according to my maintenance schedule, the final drive belt should be replaced every two years, so hopefully the mechanics get it right during the scheduled maintenance.
My owners manual didn't really mention it, or even tell you what kind of oil to use in there. Honestly I never knew it had oil back there. But basically the recommendation among owners is just 10w-40 every 16,000 when you change the CVT belt. If I had only known :(
No I never made one when I had it. I miss that scooter alot to - if I had only known to change the oil in the rear end every so often it would still be around today :(
It depends on your preferences really. The bikes are identical with the exception of power. Now I am happy with my Helix 250 as well so you probably know power isn't important as long I can at least travel at interstate speed. I had my Silverwing for a while and I did enjoy it however I found quite often I never used that power and it wore out back tires and wasted gas. After test riding a 400 I discovered it was just a better fit for my riding style and personal preferences. Both of them are great bikes. I think the silverwing has almost 20 additional horsepower which you can't deny is quite nice if you like to get going a little faster than most. I will admit I have never been over 80 mph on any bike I've ever had for larger engines and TopSpeed typically don't fall into consideration when I am shopping for a bike.
