How To Get Into Literary Fiction + Recommendations

I looooooved the Remains of the Day. At the end you're like "Oh my word, so
few things happened, but it meant so much, and I empathize with this old
Butler so much."
I'm glad you talk about literary fiction- I find it intimidating sometimes
but often it is just so worth it. I get really frustrated with booktube for
not having as much "high" literature as I wish it did!
Even if I'm not interested in the book you're talking about, I enjoy
learning about them anyway, so thank you!
Also, I hated The Hours (I liked the movie though), but when I read it I also hated Mrs Dalloway. I now don't LOVE Dalloway but it's not on my list of books I hate anymore! I do agree that it's a good way to get into lit fiction.
Your videos always leave me wishing that you're my professor! So
thought-provoking and the content discussed has definitely opened up new
perspectives. Thank you xx
The Hours, The Remains of the Day and The Road are 3 of my absolute
favorites! :) Thanks for this - definitely gave me some ideas for some
other books to read and authors I've never even heard of.
I really respect the way you read and review your books. I feel like you
read things on a deep level and know exactly why you think what you do
about a book. You have given me much food for thought.
+Kathleen Pizzo Ah, thank you! But I definitely do not know exactly what I think of most books. Sometimes I'm surprised by what comes out of my mouth when I sit down in front of the camera!
Literary fiction is my jam! I love books about people. I don't need a plot.
I read A Visit from the Goon Squad a couple months ago and it was one of my
first book review videos. I saw it here! I loved how each person's story
has such a different voice/writing style. I think a great resource for
literary fiction is the list of Pulitzer Prize winners. I haven't read The
Hours because I couldn't decide if I should read Mrs. Dalloway first. I
recommend A Permanent Member of the Family by Russell Banks. It's a
collection of short stories. The people in each story are so very different
in race, age, economic status and I thought about the stories long after I
finished reading the book. A nice easy read to dip your toes into literary
fiction.
+Jo ReadsBooks I agree! Several of the books I mentioned are Pulitzer Prize winners, though I didn't do that on purpose. They've been making pretty good selections in recent years.
As part of their Bronze Arts Award the group did their own version of a scene from Pulp Fiction //media.hull-college.ac.uk.
