Fiat Abarth OT 1000 Cylinder Block - Thermal Clean
This is a somewhat rare Abarth OT 1000 cylinder block that was dropped of to be thermal cleaned by John Edwards @ Costa Mesa R&D Automotive Machine ...
every time I see you run a vid of a thermal cleaning operation I ask myself
'what are those other things on the rods where the engine is NOT mounted'
and then I say to self 'oh yeah...main caps' but I've never quite got the
answer for the valve springs between the caps until today when I says
'spacer' did I guess right?
I say you got that right. Plus when it goes into the next machine it turns
like the others but also tips end to end somewhat to help remove the last
of the blasting beads. The tipping can cause the caps to slide back and
forth on the rods and the springs prevent the caps from bashing into the
end plates and each other.
This engine has been bored to 66mm, we will go to 66.5mm. I;ve bored these
engines to 68mm's by off-setting the bores and use an A112 Autobianchi head
gasket. You wind up with 1075cc's.
how does thermal cleaning work for cleaning the interior of the block we
use a traditional hot tank in my shop but i have often wondered if we
should upgrade to this type of system
