Just don't ask them to reduce your bill back to where it was. If you do,
they will disconnect your DVR at night while you are asleep. Then when you
have them disconnected completely, you get stuck with a $250.00 charge
because didn't follow there terms. You terminated the contract early, only
because you switched to Comcast. Was a preferred customer for 30 years and
never late on my bill ever and that was how I was treated. Comcast has more
movies and 50 speed internet. Super fast...

try its speed on demand, add @sod on the username. downside is available
lang pag 10pm to 10am. another way is to use its sky net proxy . both
methods can give speed not lower than 1.2 mbps

Learn to Run Speed Test to Check DSL Speed
Qwest DSL Speed Test
This is very very disappointing , let say you doing some upgrades and try to watch a youtube video , you wont go far , kinda brings me back to AOL times , where ...
Ok , I will shed light on some simple truths about internet for you the
masses. Internet bandwidths work like this. 1) you download speeds will
always be about 1/10th of your subscribed bandwidth. 2) if you are doing a
speedtest at a speedtest site that is not your providers - you are an
idiot. 3) the speedtest will always be approximately 15% less then you
provisioned rates due to a thing called OVERHEAD - that is the cost to send
your data to and from on the internet. Knowledge is power.
Not really, because your in Qwest territory, so you could find another ISP,
but it still on Qwest lines and you have to deal with them to get the DSL
loop, but a third party ISP. I would say keep it simple and get Qwest as
your DSL and ISP provider if you can't afford Comcast, but I would look
into every other option to keep Comcast instead.
Lol I disagree with you, qwest is really just trouble... Their tech's
aren't that bright as well. I called their techs few years ago, they didn't
even know how to port forward! They're internet is really failing as well.
We got 1.5 MBps with them, yet we only get 150 KB a sec, not the 1.5
megabytes per sec they said to give
qwest is crap. when it comes to networking, a monkey knows more. their tech
support is rude. not only that, but most of the technicans i delt wit are
not "brightest" of the bunch. i really wish there was a better service. i
like comcast but i just dont have the cash, does any1 noe a other option of
cheap high speed dsl?
Lol, my friend you got it wrong. I was confused at first when I saw
internet speeds. They mean megabits not megabytes. 1 megabit is about 100
Kilobytes so you are getting what they said. 10 mbps is almost equal to a
megabyte and is generally expensive.
Qwest blows, even IF you can get their 20Mbps connection, they still have
896Kbps upload, and they are NOT rolling fiber to the home, its fiber to
the node, contrary to what their ads say... I'll take my 16/2 w/ powerboost
on Comcast... :)
Cable internet is based off of usage anyways, ever notice drops in speed
during peak usage times, I pay for 35mps, and $10 extra bucks for a
guaranteed 20mbps, cable internet never hits full speed neither does dsl
its a fact of life
im in the same situation. i'd gladly pay a little more to get something
that doesnt freeze every 5 minutes, but the faster DSL is not even
available in my area. Qwest is the very definition of failure.
I recently upgraded to Qwest 7mbps and my speeds were worse than yours. One
point the download speed was only 0.30 mbps but the techs came to my house
and did some repairs and now I'm at 6.20 mbps.
Well upgrade to the 7mbps speed dumb dumb. You pay for 1.5 and get 1.3. Go
ahead and switch to comcast. You'll pay $50/mo and show us a video then of
how bad it sucks once 5pm rolls around. lol
Honestly I never seen anything like it as in you download something and you
cant even open a website btw this is 1,5 MB plan which by any means ain't
cheap but is the cheapest they offer
Qwest sucks, the fastest they can give me is 3Mbps down and 896 kbps up,
for the same price I got Comcast which is 6Mbps down and 1Mbps up. Qwest is
a joke, at best.
I am currently paying for 7.0 and my upload speed is 0.218. Infact, i
couldn't even watch this video without it stopping 7 times.... Qwest is
truly a rip off
Qwest = fail Comcast = Win Also, Comcast just deployed their DOCSIS 3.0
upgrades, so their base package will be 12/2, and their premium package is
50/10.
I have Qwest 3 mb plan, i get .5 dl and upload speed. It kinda blows. Not
even a good blow, but like one where the girl has a cheese grater in her
mouth.
I've been with Verizon DSL for 3 years. I wish I could kill the children of
those who are responsible for my crappy, slower than advertised, frequently
crashing service! They always fix the line the next day after service
interruption, but they never tell me what was wrong, or admit any fault of
their own. Last year, I ended up NOT paying them for 3 months, because
during that time service was mostly off. Having similar experiences again
this year. FIOS is too expensive, I will switch to cable.
I have Verizon DSL and I think it's a POS too. My dad or my sister is on
the computer all the time causing it to slow down so much. Talk about lag?
I try competitive gaming but all my shots are delayed and I cannot connect
to most hosts. Families should be warned about DSL. It's okay if one person
uses it, but only one device at a time. Overall I give Verizon DSL a 4/10,
and that's only because it works decently if a single device uses it alone.
Definitely not a good choice for online gaming.
The Comcast download is faster but Fios gives you better upload speeds
(which for me is important due to the amount of HD video I upload). Verizon
DSL was extremely unreliable and before I lived here my Dad lost cable with
comcast for 4 days without any compensation from them (he only had TV
though, no voice or internet, I can only assume all 3 would have been out
if he had those too). Fios has been flawless aside from one outage that
lasted a few hours (and that was almost 3 years ago).
@10DSM I'm trying to say that my ping wasn't always good. I know there are
people out there with better DSL experiences than I have had. Mine was a
terrible one. Plus, Verizon likes to lock all their shit down so that you
have to use their shitty modem. The one they give you for their Fios
service works 600 times better thankfully. The ones they give you for DSL
work great for a few months and then all of a sudden you are stuck powering
them on and off all the time just to make it work.
@MistaX8 I could have got DSL 4X faster at $34.99, very cheap for today. My
9.99 was a special never go up intro fee. I use it mostly for text off-line
media. note: I grew up with 56K not 700+M connection. DSL has limited
distance, FIOS initial cost is expensive, unlimited distance and once in
cheap to add customers. Tel-cos hate DSL, no money in it. With FIOS and DSL
you have your own pipe to the ISP, cable you share the pipe with all your
neighbors. ie: no cable speed on Christmas.
@marquise02119 The speed your isp gives you is based on a d/l right next to
you the downloads you save are downloaded from servers that arent right
next to you therefor you do not get the speed promised i used to think the
same thing and i dont blame you because you should get what you pay for
just listen to me and go to comcast it will save you so much trouble i had
to convince my parents and they finally caved in. comcast is 100% better
unless you can get fios then get comcast
@marquise02119 Yeah, it sucks. I wish everyone could have fast internet. As
much as I love Fios, there is no denying that it is overpriced, but really,
internet has always been overpriced. You'd think in this day and age we
would be at a point where fast connection, being the norm, would be
cheaper. It sucks when I'm playing Xbox and there are some really cool
people in a game but I can't get a good game going with/against them
because they don't have a good connection.
@marquise02119 It's not just Massachusetts. Comcast has huge lobbying teams
to help push their interests, and they're trying to prevent many towns
around the country from putting in a fiber optic network, thus, preventing
Fios. I don't know how this isn't violating some kind of antitrust act.
Comcast is one of the worst companies in business today. And it's not just
areas with black people. For example, Dracut, MA is mostly white people and
they don't have Fios either.
@MistaX8 what are u trying to say? that dsl ping is worse than cable?
lol..i have a friend that pays 10 bucks a month for a old school 512k at&t
connection they dont offer anymore and he still out pings my timewarner
roadrunner 20mb+ connection which sits around 50ms ( im not yanking your
pp)....im just letting you know that if you have the right hardware (stock
at&t modems are shit) your ping will be fine and your online experiance
will not suffer
@akatsukiapple Yup, we got rid of DSL and haven't looked back. Fios or
cable internet is worlds better. Though, Fios even beats out cable. Problem
is, if you're in an area with comcast, they try to get in good with the
local governments so they can hold a monopoly (don't understand how this is
legal, since technically, it is not). Like, here in Mass, some towns have
fios and other towns can't have fios, so people are stuck with DSL or cable.
when i had Verizon enhanced dsl or the predecessor (this was around 7 or 8
years ago) it was around 1-5 mbps... and when i went to cable modem
internet at that time it was around 10mbps now it 5 mbps, and Verizon
enhanced dsl can go up to 15mbps according to their website so both types
of internet these days have gotten better to todays standards and if your
dsl is slow upgrade your plan...same with any other internet service you
have...
verizon dsl is not all that bad. we had it for years for $30/month at 3mb
down 768k up and we always received it, except after about 5-6 years the
wires outside started getting corroded and the speed went haywire and had
intermittent connection issues. once they fixed that it was perfect. since
then we've had fios 20/5 and now 30/25 and there has never been a slowdown
or an outage and it's now the fourth year since install
@ChadtheWhad Dsl is the reason I hate verizon. When my parents(Im still a
kid so i still live with my parents) tried to upgrade from the crappy dsl
to fios. BUT they give fucking direct tv insted and I never got that
internet upgrade I wanted. Because of that I have to make most of my
youtube videos with a fucking picture and audio because 10mb= 10 mins of
waitng for upload. thanks dsl for being a piece of shit
@10DSM My ping was fine in that test bouncing off a server in Boston. In a
shitty Peer-to-Peer connection where the host player is God knows where?
It's all over the place, sometimes good and sometimes bad. Plus, that test
didn't show packet loss and jitter. If they had launched pingtest.net at
the time I recorded this then I could have run that it it would have shown
a major difference.
Verizon does not charge extra for more internet use, it is a flat monthly
fee. 1.2Mbps isn't fast for todays standards but it's better than I was
getting with DSL. You never know what you're gonna get with DSL though, the
speed each person gets varies a lot. If you plan on doing a lot of heavy
uploading and/or downloading then be prepared for it to take a long time.
@Gamerman432 Best thing to do is use Youtube's bulk uploader plugin
(doesn't time out as often as the regular uploader on a long upload) and
set the video to upload overnight. Make sure your computer isn't set to go
to sleep or anything in that amount of time. That's what I had to do when I
had DSL. It sucked, but it was the only way to get stuff uploaded.
I just use the verizon 4g hotspot I get 12 down and about 3 up with a 70ms
ping. That gives me a 3 bar in COD. But the shit is, I'll randomly drop to
a one bar in zombies and then after I'm dead it goes back to 3. So I'm
gonna try out the dsl because I live literally 3 seconds away from the
place where they send it. SO yeah, cool beans.
@Anglynn74 Well, if you get cable or fiber optic it's going to be WAAAY
better than DSL. Fiber Optic is better than cable but that doesn't mean
cable isn't worth looking at. It comes down to price and reliability, and
around here, Verizon Fios is much more reliable than Comcast (which is
ironic, because Verizon DSL was horrible).
DSL sucks!!!! My "optimal" download speed is supposedly 1.15mbs, but when I
actually download something, it's .1mbs, or 100kbs (on a really good day).
I can't wait to get FiOS, then get it with Vonage and dump my landline that
casts close to 100/month, and save loads of money while having a great
internet connection.
wow, even fios is slower than comcast's basic internet package (think
that's what it's called) managed to get around 26-35 mb for download and
around 5 mbps for upload. though i wish reliability was better. the modem
cuts out randomly sometimes for no apparent reason. Do u find DSL to be
more reliable than cable?
@MistaX8 I had to switch from verizzon to comcast cause im in the worst
place of all. philly is where comcast is and thats where i live so i can
just give up all hopes of fios ever coming here im happy with comcast
though i get what i pay for 16mbps from 4mbps and i pay the same thing if
you ask me its worth it
i have dsl from verizon and it sucks really bad my speed is 1.5mgs and its
suppose to be 3mgs....it was 3mg the first week and in 3weeks it when down
to 0.11mg until verizon send a guy to my house to fix it and he told them
to make it 1.5mgs...so im getting rip off -_- $40 a month for some shit
@MistaX8 Well Im on a diffrent account. Anyways for some reason my computer
logs off by itself or something and says that the profile on my desktop is
locked and IDK how to stop it from doing that. maybe if I can get it to
stop then getting my vidoes uploaded will be no problem at all
is the speed reflective on the company who provides it? or is it reflective
on just FIOS in general? I want to get FIOS from RCN & I'm assuming FIOS
alone is just faster than DSL right now I get download speeds of 3.15 mbps
& upload of 386 kbps...pretty bad if you ask me.
@MrAnomanom Nope, FIOS is great. Every once in a while, the connection will
slow down a bit and I have to power down the modem for 15 seconds to fix
it, but even when it slows down, it is still worlds faster than DSL, and it
only happens once every 2-3 months.
@MistaX8 I'm in Dracut, and Comcast has an OUTRAGEOUS monopoly in all of
Dracut. Nobody here likes satellite - it's overpriced here, so Comcast is
the ONLY option. ANd my cousin has FiOS in a nearby town and it's flawless.
Comcast has MANY issues.
Looks like you are comparing slow speed DSL ( I pay 9.99/month) with FIOS.
You are comparing Apples to Oranges. BTW whe I got into going online we
were doing a whoping 1500BPS once in a while you would find a BBS that only
supported 750.
i have dsl from verizon im paying 40$ for 1.5mbs that price is a rip off
since 40$plan is 3mbs anyways is takeing for ever to load this video and oh
yeah my ping is 118 so dont get dsl from verizon people or any dsl get
something else
God. 81ms ping. That DSL connection is officially Shit with a capital "S".
It's funny that the ping you get on FiOS is no better than what we get with
RCN cable, however our connection's upload speed pales in comparison.
@richlaue That's the point. I was trying to show what a massive difference
it is to have fiber over DSL. And I'm not sure exactly how much it was but
we were getting bilked for more than 9.99 for that slow as shit DSL.
hey whats a good internet i can get? right now i have verizon dsl i think
and it gets like 50-200 ping my download is always 1.50 or less and upload
always less then .50 not even over 1.00 ever. is sudden link good?
Globe Dsl plan 1299 2mbps Speed Test (globe dsl plan 1299.)
