I've been riding a cruiser for 6 years and am looking to get a sport bike.
I'm on a Kawasaki 900 Custom and I want to get a Kawasaki Ninja 650 ABS.
What do you think will be the most difficult adjustments for me to make?
+nwroadratThanks. I think I'll take the sports bike course on Ft. Hood to get specific training and a feel for sports bikes before I go out on it. Save some headaches down the road.
+pjamese3 The position of the riders weight and the lightness of the bike itself affects the braking. -- What you heard about corner accidents is correct. Accidents in curves are often due to, too much speed, improper corner entry and/or a rider loosing focus. More lean is only required when you are going at excessive speed. Due to traffic sometimes crossing the center line, I'd save that kind of speeding in corners for a track or a known safe environment.
+nwroadratSo sports bike front brakes are stronger than cruiser front brakes? Okay. I've heard most single vehicle sport bike accidents are in curves. Is there more lean required going into a corner on a sports bike?
+Cathy Key - For starters, probably neither of the two showing in thisvideo. I would recommend something light, less on power and maybe smaller. One caveatin all this, it should fit you and be comfortable. I would recommend sitting ona Honda Grom, Honda CBR250R or the Kawasaki Ninja 250. (addframe sliders to these bikes for fall-over protection) These are not cruiserbikes. While you can start on a smaller cruiser, they can be a bit harder tolearn slow maneuvers because of the cruiser bikes length. Hope that answersyour question!
Nice vid mate. I'm from England and personally used to sports bikes. After
you've ridden sports for a while, do you find cruiser to be sluggish? I
only ask because I am used to riding a GSXR600K1 but often think a powerful
cruiser could be a lot of fun. Cheers
+Sam Ellis I rode a sportbike (CBR 600) from 17-21, took an almost 2 year break, and now own a cruiser (Yamaha Raider). I will say in a hypothetical world where there are no cops, a sportbike would be wayyy more fun. But since you can never really use the power, I think I prefer the cruiser now. Sportbike just got me into trouble. The cruiser is a lot more fun on the streets since you don't need to go 70+mph all the time to have fun. I will say the one thing I miss most is hard cornering though
+Sam Ellis Transitioning feels strange at first, but you will get used to it.
