Sure, Indonesia has bunches of its citizens living in poverty, bunches working stupid hours in sweatshops so the west can buy Nike and Gap on the cheap and cigarette companies are busy making a literal and financial killing selling with minimal restrictions but here is the solution to their problems, build a bloody military base. Fact #1, China is one of the US largest trading partners. Why is China projecting power out to those remote islands? What is their objective? Fact #2, The US Navy main concern is keeping the sea lanes open for trade between the US and it's trading partners. But isn't China a vital US trading partner? Perhaps, things are changing. In comes the TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership) treaty agreement which includes 11 nations plus the US and TPP does not include China. Very interesting. Fact #3, China's economy is currently slowing down. Wonder why that is happening? Especially considering low commodity prices. Let's see, when raw materials cost more the Chinese economy was going great now, when materials cost less things are not going well. (???) Wars are mainly fought over economics. I predict before WW3 breaks out there will be new alliances formed. No one country can take on the US military single handed. It will be several nations united together.

Due to the increased tensions involving the Chinese over the Spratly Islands, the US is playing a stop gap maneuver, by encircling the South China Sea with US Naval and Air Force assets. The US has assets from Japan, Guam, South Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Diego Garcia to Australia and wanting more on the northern cost of Australia. This is to prevent a breakout by Chinese Naval ships in mass, and to protect the US allies in the area by missiles and US air-born assets. The Chinese have a small Blue Water Navy, compared to the Large US assets. Your better to stop them from breaching the Islands that encircle them first.
