D.G Pictures: Sony HVR Z1 Test film in HD
Some shots taken with my new Sony HVR Z1 on HDV to test it out.
@robblac Continued... i can't imagine showing up to film an event after
being hired as a professional with a tiny little camera. Unfortunatly
there's an element of image to withold when your operating a buisness. But
i'm sure for your puposes the Pansonic is great, a lot of consumer cameras
use the technique of making these cameras which enhance colours beyond what
they naturaly are which gives a false sense of image quality. which is fine
but if i want to do that i just touch it up in post.
@dgpictures5"i can't imagine showing up to film an event after being hired
as a professional with a tiny little camera" size isnt everything mate.. i
to have complete manual control over focus, zoom, iris etc, due to
amulti-functional ring, not just a rocker.yes i have 3 cmos sensors,and you
may pip me in coulor reproduction but not by much, as to your xlr inputs,
well, yous i only have a minijack in, but plenty prosumer mics are balanced
enough.. its not an issue .check out the hdc-sd700.
@robblac Hi yes of course you're entitled to your opinion, and the
panasonic is a very nice camera indeed. but i will now put forth my
opinions, this video was made the day i got the camera and isn't my best
work due to the lack of experience, you are watching the footage on you
tube, i shoot on HDV which in terms of editing is much more convieniant ina
professional enviroment due the large compression of AVCHD cameras like
yours, i am able to achieve a much shallower DOF with my lens...
@robblac Continued... i have simple and complete creactive control over
manual settings like Focus, Apature, Gain, White balance and shutter speed,
which can also be programed for more effective automatic application, i
have 3CCDs as opposed to CMOS, i have a larger and therefore more stable
camera body, i have two XLR inputs essential for a proffesional production,
i have a ring zoom compared to your unflexible rocker switch, and well the
sony Z1 just has the profesional presence....
@dgpictures5 Continued, as to your HDV being more convinient to edit,i dont
have any issie with AVCHD, my little cam can shoot at 50p, and as i have a
powerful p.c. i can handle even that footage fine,..to end, im sure that a
professional cam like yours can produce better results, but a small
prosumer like mine can produce. great results too.., i am a novie, i make
no bones about it, but i have studied various different camera footage and
guess what.. there aint much in it nowadays.
well as i've told other people in the past progressive is great but it's
not essential for great looking footage. this video you were watching is in
fact not de-interlaced at all, it was shot on HDV at 1080i and exported as
1080i mpeg2. the big advantage of pro camcorders vs their consumer
counterparts is their lens's shallower DOF and their 3ccd colour
representation, these are what i feel contribute mainly to the image
quality. Thanks for watching hope i helped a little.
Yes i think Sony discontinued the Z1 only a couple of months ago and Z5
does shoot progressive as is my understanding. and one more bit of advice i
would defiantly go for HDV, unless you have a real industry grade editing
computer set up, AVCHD is just too much for the indie film makers PC
editing to handle, i run with 3GB of ram and it takes me twice as long to
edit in AVCHD compared with footage from my Z1 on HDV.
Hey thanks i actually think i could do much better now cos i made this the
day after i just got the camera it has so many more features i didn't know
about then. if you are looking into buying one i'd certainly recommend it.
Take a look at my short film Fruit Salad for what i think is a better
example of what this camera can do.
Yes you have helped me a great deal. I was about to give up on an HDV
camera before I saw your shots. But seeing as how they don't make this
model any more I'll look into the Z5.
I see you used my Bell picture. I don't mind, but I'd appreciate it if you
ask next time, ok? If you did I apologize, as I must have forgotten because
I was busy or because it was a while ago.
