I remember once being upset with someone who missed an important appointment with me. The next time I saw him my words and tone let him know I was upset. He told me a family member had died. I was mortified. Now I always gently inquire if there was a problem when someone has missed a deadline. This approach has saved me embarrassment and enhanced trust with people. If the words really held true to that intended emotional model however, then might such literary devices become redundant whose presence may just serve as a detractor of impact to the sentence preceding it? In essence then suggesting the most effective writers should have little use for the exclamation point period? I suppose then I shall continue to go on using them fully while striving not to. Although until now I'd never given it much thought tbh. Sorry if sounded a tad pedantic but it keeps me occupied on the side 1 tabling a Pot Limit Omaha game to go off on such unrelated tangents, (I guess normally playing 8-12).
