In this video I show you how to wrap a coil for the Phoenix rebuildable atomizer using stainless steel mesh and 100% unbleached cotton. Fantastic vape!
Okay. Used the phoenix for three days with the original setup. Not
great....tastes like a burnt 510 atty. So, I used your method (although
with the silica rope...) Cut down a wick I had for the did and wrapped it
around the silica. Tastes great! Could wick better, so I'ma get some
cotton. You are the man, Rip! (Huge pain in the ass, this thing....much
harder than a gen because it's so freakin' tiny. If it were as wide as the
provari it would be the perfect dripping atty.) But yeah, great advice.
Couple question, to make it easier to get the cotton through the mesh roll,
can the cotton be wrapped into the mesh roll when rolling up the mesh roll,
or does the mesh already come rolled up? How long will a DIY coil setup
like that last before needing replacement, if vaping around 2-3ml per day?
Lastly, what makes the Provari better than say, a LavaTube. I bought the
Totally Wicked Torpedo VVV, kinda like a Lava Tube. What makes the Provari
better? Is the Torpedo not going to last? Thanks
Thanks for the info, this is exactly what i needed to figure out the
stainless steel mesh, maybe.Ive had trouble with shorts, but some other guy
explained that. I use my phoenix for vaping hash oil. I like the fabric
store idea, but not so sure it matters with what im doing, silica gives me
a piece of mind if im passing the pen and the oil doesnt melt on the coil.
I noticed that eye glass repair kits have a screwdriver that may work. but
I oddly enough had a couple sets of the screwdrivers.
I'm with you on the screwdriver issue. One should be included with setups
like these. The one I just bought came with an allen key for it's allen
screws, but no driver for the regular screws. Fortunately, being in the
computer business I have a set of computer screwdrivers. That kit includes
these really small heads, since tiny screws are commonplace in computer
components. So, while it sucks having to buy more supplies, investing in a
good computer screwdriver set could help down the road!
...oooor just dont over tighten the screws with the screwdriver. If the
company wanted you to really torque down on them, they would have made it
easier to do so. You may be using more force than you need is all im
sayin.. Or you could take one of the screws to a hardware store and find
others like it with different heads like flat or even allen heads.. youd
have to try different nuts on the screw to figure out the thread pitch and
diameter. At that size you could buy 10 for $1. Good luck!
I just ordered a dry herb cartridge from gentlemans vapes. Ive read forums,
I have a feeling its a cheap xl cartridge with a ceramic element. It says
they are HANDMADE in san fran for mmj. His oil carts are just ce2s upside
down in the tube... Ive heard dispensaries here in CO are selling them too.
But im hoping after rebuilding a phoenix, and a vivi nova that they can be
rebuilt too. or i can mod a phoenix. I originally started using a e cig to
quit smoking tobacco. But It Has MANY uses!
HighlanderNorth1, no, the mesh needs to be rolled then slide a really small
strand of cotton thru the mesh. You want to have space between the cotton
and the mesh so it wicks the entire ss. A coil will last you anywhere
between 2-3 weeks. The Provari is better because it has a 3.5 amp limit
which means you can vape low resistance device and dual coil devices,
whereas with the lavatube 1, it only has a 2 amp limit, which does not
allow you to vape dual coil and low resistance devices.
Awesome video. I've got to try that on my next rebuild of this product. I
wish they would make an adapter for the drip tip. I don't really want to
file this as many have mentioned. In regards to the screw driver, I
purchased a set at Radio Shack (Had a small Phillips head in it among the
six; Apparently it's kit for toy cars; Cost about $6). For seeing this tiny
device, I helped Radio Shack again & bought a hands free magnifying glass.
Still get 1.5ohm (I need to practice more).
Great videos there guy. Maybe you can help me out. I have no trouble with
my phoenix except my attempts using ss mesh. I have 316 woven ss and using
32AWG wire. No matter how many wraps I try to fit I get way low resistance.
The one I just made like this is hitting at 0.9Ohms. I've tried up to 7
wraps and tried wrapping excess wire on the post and still the highest ohm
rating has been 1.2. Any clues? Also just FYI craftsman #0 (41542)
screwdriver fits these perfectly.
Have you tried 100% cotton sterile gauze with the metal mesh wick? I
haven't gotten any mesh to try yet. So far the gauze wicks great and seems
very durable. I was curious about a comparison as the gauze seems a lot
more fragile than the fabric. I was also curious if wrapping the cotton
helps distribute the heat from the wick. I've noticed that a slight space
between coils does lead to a gradual burn in the cotton over time. Thanks
for the great video!
Please help me out guys, since I'm a beginner to RDAs. I bought a clone of
the Phoenix. I have used it for a few days now, but it has a burning taste.
The coil seems to be okay, but the wick is a little blackened. Does this
mean its time for a new wick AND coil? My vendor supplied me with two extra
wicks, but no wire! Is there a way just to replace the wicks and not the
coil?
Brilliant method, I'm gonna have to try that. Be aware, that '100%
unbleached cotton' is not necessarily free of chemicals, fabrics have
sizing applied to them after they are woven. Cheese cloth, or even better,
Butter Muslin are food grade products. But I'd still give them a quick boil
in distilled water before using them for vaping. cheers
From the looks of it this AC9 is it going to wick vertically? A long way
vertically. If so how well is it going to wick thicker juices? Will we be
able to use cotton, ss mesh, or silica wicks? I typically use 60%vg is why
I ask. I'm looking at this and thinking..theres no way thats going to wick
my juice up that fast enough. Lol
Oh Man, it took me about 2 hours to make one of those. first time ever
rolling a SS mesh wick. decided to pass fiber glass wick. those screws are
damn tiny, that's the most difficult part for me, took me longer to pass
wire than all. Is it ok a 3.6 ohm atty? Practice before getting my Def Con
Mini. Enjoy your vids. Thanks
really sucks! anyways..i backed out my screw too far and lost it! gott 110
ft kanthal coming..crapload of wick..and no rba!! lol bout rdy to put it
all on the classies for a drip tip..lil frustrated at the moment! thanks
for all the help you offer fellow vapers. it is extremely helpful and
appreciated!
So I tried this with some Butter Muslin (very fine cheese cloth), what a
mess, the thread count is way to low, it just fell apart. I don't even want
to think about what cheese cloth would do... Going to the fabric store
tomorrow to get some 100% unbleached cotton and then boil the crap out of
it.
Subbed. I dont know where to get the mesh or the cotton at the same store
online to save on shipping cost or in my local stores? I will be asking a
few questions im sure when im setting up my phoenix clone when it arrives.
8 bux you cant beat it.... some ppl pay 8 dollars for 1 atomizer wtf
1Dantrn, Genesis style atomizers in general puts anything else out there to
shame as far as flavor, vapor, TH, and nicotine delivery. With 60% vg
juice, these type of devices will wick faster than you can blink. :) All
Genesis style atomizers use ss mesh. 1Dantrn , never assume anything.
