+madjid02 well beauty is subjective. i like the 8 speed transmission but the engine is old from Montero MIVEC and the emission is terrible only Euro 4 compliant so its a bit smokey
Love the vehicle. I'm also 6'4" and like something that is easy to get
into. How has the vehicle been for you. I'm seeing the great reviews on the
SUV and the fact that it is popular around the world gives me confidence in
this model.
+Ridge97 Good idea. I'll check it. Some dealerships will sit on cars that are old knowing that people look for these and they jack up prices. If that is the case then I just walk away.
yea do a kelly blue book on the limited you will find out they have it market higher than it should be...You should be able to get that one for 48 maybe?
+Ridge97 That's good to practice. I'd like to find one from an individual but the best I could do is locate a couple at dealerships. One is a 2001 Limited with 130k for 6k at a dealership and another is a 2002 XLS with 200k for 5k. Both are overpriced, but the Limited I'd consider. I'm not sure if I should be afraid of one with 200k miles. I'm thinking if it has been maintained I'm ok and can probably get that price down to $3500 on the XLS.
+Ridge97 Thanks for the info on that. I think if I had to tow from there to AL it would be difficult as I don't have a good tow vehicle at the moment. I'll probably end up paying more for a running Montero unless something like you have found is available eventually near me. I'm just going to keep my radar up. I'd like to buy something today, but I need to be patient.
+Michael King well that 2002 I found it in North Carolina depending on where you are and Alabama would be how far you would have to drive unless he sold it
+Ridge97 Thanks for the info. I am looking for a 2002 or really anything I can find. I'm in Alabama and there aren't many available for sale. I've got someone that can put an engine in if I can find a deal like you discovered. Appreciate the owners perspective you give on this. These things seem to be quite sturdy.
+Michael King I love mine..right now I've hving problems with the heat hand going full hot and the vehicle is cold. Did some research and seems to be a bad solder joint in the board on the dash cluster. Easy fix I just have not fixed it. I did a timing belt and water pump exchange about 6 months ago. not and easy task really nothing on this vehicle is easy to work on but it's pretty durable. I still have it..love the way it drives. I dont drive it as much as I did because I have a 2006 f150 truck to drive to. I'd buy another one today the montero..I found one that had a bad head gasket..for 750.00 it was white...looked as good as mine but I didn't go buy it simple fact I could not find a soul to fix it and I'm afraid to tackle it LOL
I get around 17 to 18 and mine has a bad cat converter. IDK if that effects the mileage..I was just getting 18 in a honda passport and it's much smaller. This vehicle is big enough for me because I am tall. So far so good..it runs and drives great..with a tuneup it may get 19 just have not took it on a long trip yet.
Looks like it has a vacuum line going to it and a detached electric
solenoid . Also check those vacuum lines for cracking . Taking the EGR off
and cleaning should not be to hard of a job. It does look well taken care
of.
